In this brand-new story, Ray takes Cornelius on a drive to the ophthalmologist, but, as these things go, that is the least of what occurs.

(As an aside to all this, I'm still looking for a way to format these such that the PDF conversion process doesn't turn them into gappy slop, so if you notice any formatting errors, or like to talk about PDF conversion, please chime in in the comments. Thank you!)

PDF conversion is actually one of my favorite things to not talk about at all. (Something perhaps more useful I can say though is that the default Adobe reader app on my phone does something called "liquid mode" that seems to do a nice job of formatting these in ways that look pretty nice on mobile devices. They look great without liquid mode too, it seems to just remove excess whitespace and size it nicely for my screen or whatever. But in case you had concerns over how these are looking on mobile... Everything is sharp and clear. The resolution is good. They look good! You're all good. Everything is good here. Thank you.)

Thank you. It is hard to surrender to computers after all they have done Against us, but maybe once in a while they are nice. (That said, I am almost certain a broken hyphenation lurks in part three.)

you know those old late night music collection tv ads with scrolling artist and song titles i think one used to be called pure moods the music on them or at least the snippets on the ads never induced any mood whatsoever beyond wanting beavis and butthead to return more quickly these characters being affected by soup elicits more of a mood than anything pure moods ever made a halfhearted fire sale backcatalog license fee attempt toward the same

My child you are in need of a journey into the Orinoco Flow.

this was a really nice one, man. just a vignette of something mildly strange happening, nothing really important, but a lot of vibes. real pleasant.

It is good the doctor did not get distraction. Would have been a real shame

I came here to say this

Then I am glad to be validated in my half hearted defense of this particular digital document format!

I was feeling strange when reading "stomach-stapled manatee", but then I hit an emotional high point upon the arrival of Papa Pung into the story

I wonder if Auguste is any relation to Anatole, another famous chef featured in cleverly-worded stories.

This is a shockingly accurate depiction of the Ways of older folks. "Please, I insist, take this accumulated detritus from the Kennedy Administration, take all of it, I'm sure you can make good use of it!"

Charming. Classic magic shop theme with twists. Would it be a mistake to try to recreate the soup at home? I do love a simple but flavorful soup.

I think I had that CD. It had Adiemus, Tubular Bells, Enya, Enigma?

Distant Egg Song

The awkward magic of the story's small world, coupled with the simple allure of the soup's description, really drives this whole thing home

no one can say such a kind thing, but thank you, we can only watch his grave from a distance and hope that another little book will rise among the daisies

This was based on a yellow split pea soup I made a couple weeks ago. I used that "better than bouillon" chicken base stuff, and slightly extra fresh ground white pepper. It was kind of like dal.

I really liked this story. Something about the punchline of Ray now having 2 giant bags of tiny corks he didnt need - and that he didn't have the heart to tell Cornelious - was really funny and heartwarming.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Eyyyy I have that soup base as well as some actual stock from some rotisserie scraps. I even have a wee jar of ground white pepper of moderate age. I could totally make some.

Achewood

Grind it fresh sometime, straight from the barnyard ass, sublime

I can imagine Ray's mother's stay with him, but would also appreciate hearing about it.

Always love a shout-out to the concept of Euclidean space
