This one's a bit heavy on the old "writing," but this was a very writing-heavy installment, so I hope you'll bear with me. I did, however, enjoy creating for Beef a look which I've cobbled together from various trips to Los Angeles. When I see that type of hat at the airport these days, I think of it as the "Instagram hat," although I imagine the wearers think they're radiating the essence of a serape-accented week in Sedona (influencer bill footed by @HiltonResorts). I don't buy it for a moment; you can buy that shit at Kroger and the whole look just makes me sad. Go pout into you iPhone somewhere else. I'm sad. I'm sad about that whole air-headed thirst trap cliche. Aren't we past that? Isn't it lame to be pretty on apps yet?

If you're gonna eat Salisbury Steak, you might as well go big.

Bruce Wright

I must lead a sheltered life, as I have never encountered this so-called “Sedona hat.” Although it does look disturbingly like a little number I once purchased in New Mexico and then never had the guts to wear at home.

Now all I can think of is a chef at the kind of restaurant where you have to go three clicks deep to find the menu, the hours, or the address sending out a Salisbury steak amuse.

Ray capturing his ascending eyebrows sent me into a laughing fit. It's just that kind of day.

Jenn

Same 🤨😆

Am I the only one who would definitely shell out for the marginalia? I didn’t think I had any “guilty pleasures” until I conceived of Onstad making Ziggy comics.

Nate

Ray chasing his eyebrows made me giggle. I do miss tiny little nonsensical marginalia comics

Achewood

Some cats chase their tails. Ray is an evolved creature. Most cats don't even have discernible eyebrows, and you have to learn that they are in a bad mood because of how they lash out at you for trying to be nice.

I like to think that somewhere, a man is sitting nicely in his room, happy but hesitant to share the thought of a distant man making a kind of comic strip he would enjoy.

Achewood

Thanks. It's literally the "little things" sometimes. The ten minute execution that pays off better than the ten hour strip. D'oh, as Homer Simpson would say.

Achewood

Hm. Are there not twenty-three year old women where you live? Maybe they're just emerging from Tall Pinched Carhartt Beanie season.

I did not deduce until embarrassingly recently that a Salisbury steak was just an extremely simple hamburger-meatball hybrid. But I don't think it can exist until it has mushroom gravy on it. Extra points if it includes a side of mashed potatoes that still smell like the waxy plastic thing they were cooked in.

Nate

I have found that by carefully studying cat posture, tail language, and moving very slowly with a great deal of willingness to stop petting and gently withdraw (bowing gently out of respect), one can reduce tummy-pet-scratchings by up to 85%!

I think about those Sergio Aragones margin gags all the time. It's like analog alt text.

Achewood

yeah, the Easter egg. I think I wear glasses today because of squinting at so many of those.

Bruce Wright

It may be that in Texas we already have a surplusage of funny hats.

Spyguitar

Okay but I would totally wear a "bro do you even" tank top and/or oversized hoodie

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Funny that, I would choose the "No, YOU shut up." Should such a thing ever be made.

It turns out Teodor's most appealing clothing-style is when he's dressed as a rough-n-tumble porn videographer who has inexplicably donned a Parisian policeman's cap. Go figure.
