Need a little advice? No topic is off limits! Ray is in a broad and sporting mood this week, so please drop him your question in the next twenty-four hours and he'll rattle back with some Wisdom!

Ray reserves the right not to answer seven million questions about cocktail recipes. Let's be real about our issues, people. Nobody needs another answer on whether Oban or Talisker is nicer to drink.

Can you ask Ray how a man should plan a proposal?

How do I deal with my newfound, moderately-debilitating fear of the future?

in 1984 Metallica invented empathy - why have they done this?

Ray: I entered into a business arrangement wherein the counterparty took on the lion's share of the risk in the event business struggled, and gave my word I would not stick him with the bill, as it were, should things limp along. We both made out like bandits for two years, but now the bill has come due, and he is bearing the greater brunt of the costs. As an aside, I have brought him some tangential business that hums along, at a clip much less risky and much less rich. I prefer to be a man of my word, on principle. In order to do so in this instance, I would have to accept the possibility that it will be several years before I make any money. The counterparty has other significant income streams, and I do not. My question is: should I stick it out through the lean years to keep my promise? Or should I admit to myself that I am basically a selfish creature, and that several years of my life are too much to give up for my gentlemanly honour?

Ray, I’m a guy touching 40 and am pretty close to letting go of caring about anyone and anything as most people around me bring me straight misery…what’s some advice to stay passionate about life and stay in the empathy game?

Everyone knows that Oban is for n00bz, and Talisker is for the old saws. But seriously, how long does informal probate typically take in the State of Wisconsin?

So I found this thing on the beach like a GLAVE or something, looks like it would be Hella +3 v CHUD, MAGA, NAMBLA. (Wish I could upload a picture this thing is straight out of Krull mixed with Conan*.) it even has a solid pointy end! Ray, it kind of feels like I’ve been chosen, but I can’t figure out for what. Help a brother out…. *O’Brien

I'm getting married in 2 months, and we have the venue for 2 nights. There is a hot tub on site that could maybe fit about 8 people max - but our wedding party is a total of 11 people. What hot tub rules should be set and how do we manage the situation?

Ray, still employed for the moment but fighting that sinister Margreaux doge that appeared earlier this year. I have a in law who generates drama/crisis about themselves whenever there is some kind of family emergency that is no associated with them. Question is: how do I tell them to knock that off without causing Problems In The Community?

Ray, are you a dude of speedboats/skiboats? I was raised in a weird family where any boat with a motor was considered a vulgar extravagance (sailboats were celebrated). After a weekend of waterskiing with a friend’s family, however, I am definitely picturing a smiling me driving a dope-ass boat through golden sunset waters while my daughters do flips on wakeboards. My friend is a cool guy, but I definitely saw a lot of other boat dudes at the lake with Oakley Blade sunglasses and T-shirts featuring bald eagles (also wearing Oakley Blades) pissing into Joe Biden’s mouth. I don’t want to know those fuckin’ chuds but I do want to explore secluded coves. Advice for the wavering boat guy?

When are you ever going to get showed up

So I made the choice/mistake of getting mad flirty with a coworker. Things were reciprocated, nothing was icky. After a couple of months of hot texty action (but never anything physical beyond a couple of hugs), she said her anxiety was fucking with her bad and when I offered to step back to reduce her stressors, she accepted that offer and we decided to stay friends. It's now a month later and we're still cool (as a unit). Me as an individual, though, I'm not cool. I'm feeling somewhere between blueballed and sick with anticipation for something that will never happen. Plus I have to see her most days I work. What do you suggest, Ray? I am no playa, my game is quite weak--she's pretty much the first person who's flirted with me like that without a court order--so how do I get over someone I was never really under? (26 years sober, never any substances.)

Bro I am planning my nuptials please tell me what you know about game for an event like this. I want to hear about features, facilities, dining, anything you would like to discuss is going to be helpful. I am sorry not to be asking for a specific piece of advice, but would appreciate any pointers. For additional context we are planning to cater our own event on our own rustic premises, slaughter lambs from our flock for the main course, you get the drift

As the foremost caretaker of the lot, what are the primary tenets of your approach to successful child-rearing?

I'm considering a career change from laboratory scientist to wedding DJ, even though I don't really like people that much and I think wedding songs are hella played out. Any advice? Potential pitfalls to look out for?

Ray, my son has a penchant for risky behavior and injures himself just about every chance he gets. Can you drop some nuggets of wisdom from a knucklehead-from-back-in-the-day to a knucklehead-of-today?

Bungus Bronbo

RAY! I'm the kind of guy who takes a minute or two of scrolling scrolling scrolling to wind down before falling asleep, then it's three hours past my bedtime and my brain's hardwired to ruminate over every wrong that has ever happened. I'm curious, what's your bedtime routine? How do you smoothly transition from awake to sleep?

Ray! My boss says my performance is no bueno, but not like, bad enough to get fired, they just want me to transfer to some other department (TBD). How do I lateral over with the gracefulness of a real cool cat?

FactWino

Hey Ray, you and Beef have been in it since small times and still seem to be in each other’s lives. I have a best friend, we live in the same town only a few miles from each other. We’ve been trying to get together all summer, but one thing or the other, we just haven’t made it happen. How do you stay close to buds?

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Hey Ray, my 28-year-old daughter and her man have long ago decided to not have any kids and I completely support their decision but lately I am having twinges of sadness that I won't get to be a grandma. From your perspective, how to fill that gap without guilt tripping anyone?

FLON

Ray, sometimes after a urination a small water mark may form on my trouser - appearing as if I’ve been carrying a wet coin in my pocket. How best to navigate this when in public?

Funkulus

Ray, I'm trying to become a Man of Some Comfort this summer - loose linen pants, grandad collar shirt, pirate sash instead of a belt, bamboo flute... but I just can't help but think this is a path to becoming a God Damned Lentil Eating Hippie. Is it ok to listen to Ted Nugent and carry crispy bacon with me at all times to offset? Concerned about my rep and all.

Minty

Ray, what will ever rehabilitate the reputation of the clowning arts?

Ray, my wife and her mother went to Costco and got a great deal on 4 pounds of shrimp (or so they thought). These are whole shrimp with the heads and long feely things, I want to call them antennas but that doesn't sound right.. Anyway they are already thawed and I don't want to refreeze them. I need to cook these creatures up, but 4 pounds of head-on shrimp cocktails sounds like the worst wedding reception ever. Do you have any ideas? and what about the heads with the feely things?
