This strip generated a wealth of lines that didn't fit, or that just needed a bit more tweaking but still wouldn't have fit. Am I personally this horked up about the Velvet Underground? No, not really. They have some pleasant melodic pivots, regardless of intention. Also, I did some research, and apparently Lou Reed was nice a couple times. But overall, I am far more baffled by the commercial success of people like Kanye West and Rachael Ray.

Let's talk about something nice! I'm going camping for the 4th — to Tygh Valley, on the other side of Mt. Hood, where the mountains become the Oregon high desert. We will probably cook something in the small camping pot, instead of a proper 4th of July spread with ribs and a crown roast and Jell-O-cream-cheese-pretzel casserole dessert. What will you be cooking for the 4th? I am actually interested in this information.

EAROAT, LLC has a surprisingly nice ring to it.

Since you asked: having people over for the most minimal-effort cookout fare possible. There will be frozen limeade with sweetened condensed coconut milk on offer (the adults will likely be adding cachaça or pisco to theirs). I intend to end the evening in the basement and at least half in the bag, watching something very awful and American (Red Dawn, maybe?) and comforting dogs as fireworks boom outside.

I like that these outtakes basically work as a separate comic of Pat unloading every Velvet Underground insult he has in the chamber while Teodor waits for him to finish, or possibly gets up and grabs a water from the fridge. My favorite Velvet Underground insult in a webcomic comes from John Allison's comic Bad Machinery: "It's nice that you gave money to people just playing music for the first time."

That’s the weird thing about Oregon. When you’re on the west side, it’s all middle earth and giant slugs, and then you drive over the mountains and suddenly you appear to be 15 miles outside of Amarillo.

1) Remind us what music Pat enjoys, if any? 2) TIDDIES BY GODS!

Teodor has absolutely gotten up and left the room by the time "DO THEY KNOW THE MUSICAL SCALE HAS LETTERS BEYOND C" comes out

Summer holidays I like to do something that takes all day instead of a hot dog cookout. Smoking a pork butt today. I like how Pat being angry about the Velvets could have been a full week of single-row strips. Rachael Ray was NOT in Breast Attack On Fuck Mountain, that much is certain.

While I do love the Velvet Underground, I have to admit that the “Muppet Show had a pretend band of other Muppets on” is really, really good

My cats deal with fireworks by snuggling with each other under my bed. Lime and coconut sounds delightful even without alcohol. May I suggest "Reds" as an all-American movie in these trying times?

Our July 4th feast was chicken tikka masala and poppadoms in Stirling, Scotland. It was fantastic.

Sedric and Charlie

Moby, The Cure, presumably bluegrass based on the banjo arc. I'm not sure if The Cure is still canon though

Chicken breasts in the Instant Pot, shredded and served on King's Hawaiian buns, an easy crowd pleaser.

Every single one of those CBGB scene bands always comes with the disclaimer that "you really had to BE there, man!" which is another way of saying "You had to be so drunk and high that you would have grooved to a dude kicking a washing machine down ten flights of steel stairs."

Bungus Bronbo

Genuinely cooked two of ray's Ruuuuuude chickens

Sautéed (cooked in low heat in a pan?) two hot Italian beyond (tm) sausages and ate them on potato roll buns (from the company I think maybe donates to bad people) with some pickled onions and some Thai yellow mustard I got at a farmers market from a waxed moustached guy whose business card also mentions his pressure washing business. Our friend couldn’t make it (her ex just got out of jail so she doesn’t want to be places he knows the address of) so the family and two local grandmas lit every one of the 20 fountains in the $60 bundle from the Publix. Overall fun but with a looming uneasiness. Hope everyone else was good.

I spent the day tramping around Ocracoke Island which is a place of actual old magicks and weird legends. Blackbeard died there. My kids and I found multiple hermit crabs in three feet of clear water but then got menaced by a stingray which ended the seagoing portion of the day. We had hot dogs for dinner which is usually not my style but sometimes it needs to be done.

Uncle Elephant

Did this Breast Attack occur on some kind of a Mountain, at least?

Went over to my best friend's house, he has a pool and smoked a real good brisket. The kids had a blast playing Marco Polo; my son claimed he didn't love being "it" but sure looked like he was trying to get caught much of the time

I'm concerned that Eat A Realm Of Ass, Teodor LLC has not updated its FinCEN beneficial ownership disclosure

Pre-marinated jerk chicken thigh skewers from New Seasons (their butcher counter is on another level) over coconut brown rice with gochujang-style slaw. Marionberry short-cake for dessert. It was pretty rude.

I have always enjoyed a natural casing hot dog but they would always split and get sad on a grill. A thing on Serious Eats dot com told me to par cook them in some beer and onions before throwing them on a flame just to kiss it with soot and that really worked out excellently.

Late to this because of my own long weekend adventures, but all I cooked was brown butter bourbon chocolate chip cookies for the dessert table; but the potluck block party I attended included the best burgers I've ever had outside a restaurant, and a pleasant grillmaster happy to explain his ingredient sourcing and process, and even to divulge the makeup of his special sauce (mayonnaise mixed with various others condiments and flavorings, as per usual, but done very well)
