Achewood's prescient and persistent invocation of Donald Trump — well ahead of his self-installment as the figurehead of the tallship America — still has not garnered the cast an invitation to the White House. Perhaps it is because the cast keeps using words like "corny" and "douchebag."

I read that as "class of Samoan" at the Dick Dale concert. I like to think that's maybe true

Bruce Wright

Read this just a few minutes after seeing that Trump now plans to honor himself at Kennedy Center. Strange days indeed

Peter Berard

I — a hooey lucubrator and former PhD candidate — wrote a bit about this during one of my stabs at blogging. https://toomuchberard.com/2020/09/04/achewood-and-trump/ Portland had recently been experiencing Trump-fueled civil unrest, which explains — though probably doesn’t excuse — my last ellipsis in the piece.

Unless I'm misremembering Splash (not out of the question), I believe that's Daryl Hannah. Bo Derek was in 10, another great entry in the "15 minutes of entirely unmotivated footage of an impossibly beautiful woman running on the beach" film canon. Or is the joke that Ray's youthful Daryl Hannah fixation has led him to speculate about other traditional men's names that could be comfortably worn by supermodels?

Achewood

Good lord. Thank you. I need to edit this now. Ray is the one who didn't know Quaid wasn't in Twister. I shouldn't be making these mistakes. EDIT: Fixed.

Achewood

I enjoyed reading that very much - thank you! Particularly the line "Achewood is a document of the South Bay before the tech industry completely metabolized it." As to your question about my Palo Alto — yes, it is very much gone, over, and fading from memory. Such a sterile and unfriendly place.

Achewood

In my stoned dreams, Trump's award is handed to him by a man with opaque white square lenses in heavy black frames, in a newspaper suit.

Achewood

I had to double check this in a panic

It's nice when a simple juxtaposition can nudge us to "sit with it" a moment and mentally tip the product into the reactant. Like when I tell you next week's recipe is macaroni and cheese with melted garlic and fresh jalapeño.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

I'm going with simple alliteration for Dickens and Delilah, which by itself sounds like an Anglo-Levant multipurpose drinks snacks and Wares shop. You can get Ribena, Earl Grey, McVittie's, halva, smoked whole cumin, and locally grown fresh ground za'atar. Also, in re #1, I hate that fucking guy so much it makes me want to puke my pants.

Bruce Wright

Who then bursts into flames.

Achewood

Sometimes the alliteration tail wags the dog of meaning, indeed. That's mainly what happened here, along with usually trying to sound literary.

Anthony Thompson

*standing up from a huddled crowd, facing the centurions* No, _I_ was a fat child!

Caleb Gerard

I was about to make a comment about Teodor knowing what six asses smells like as he has eaten a realm of them, but alas that is the next strip in this story

Chris Warren

Macaroni and cheese with jalapeno in it is maybe the best thing I ever ate at a barbecue restaurant.

C C

Dang! Julie (HiDeeHoGal), that is among the best ways to say anything ever!

David Mandeix

I was fat as a child, and this has become a common chirp among my close friends to let me know when I am straying “out of bounds” as it were

J. Alex

"Claws of Samson" is the type of heart-stoppingly good phrases that makes Achewood, and I am serious about this, one of my all-time favorite things.

Taylor

What’s with all this Samson and Delilah imagery? Did you just see a Samson and Delilah? (I like Dickens and Delilah, it doesn’t need to make sense, it sounds good)

John Robinson

Wait, next week's recipe is NOT chicken?!

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

I can't take credit for the phrase. It was Coach Z but HSR references are so ancient I think I want to bring them back.
