For years I've wanted to make a time lapse of my process, but it takes so long, and comes in so many passes on different days, that I can't imagine how to manage such a recording properly. I know there's software, but software requires a user...and there we are, back to square one. Here, instead, are eight captioned stages of the process. There are changes both rather obvious, but also extremely subtle, between the iterations.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Stealing 'bent crap' and will see if my dad or any of his cohort laughs when I call him that.

Bruce Wright

Your kerning game is on point, Chris

Achewood

Must be preceded with "You old []"

Achewood

I believe it's technically tracking, but I am not a pain in the ass about such things, as the real Pains in Asses about such things are such small, bitter people. Who among us knows the neat etymology of "kerning"?

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

"Here's your bag of peppermints, you old bent crap."

Achewood

It's like, the crap piece isn't even any good, because it has this structural defect of a bend

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

If you could only see how proud and unbent my cats' craps are.

Bruce Wright

In my day we had kerning and leading and that was ALL and we made it WORK, dammit

Achewood

Make sure the nails on your smoking hand are all completely stained yellow while typing that

Clench and Cheese

I remember some years ago you posted a screenshot of your Adobe illustrator desktop with all of the various artifacts around the edges of your strip. I thought that was super cool

TWISTING BEEF is my new screamo punk band name

Ben Sunshine-Hill

It’s interesting that Ray with a crown is somehow still giving “not sure where he stands on kings”

Chris Warren

Poor Beef. Also, Ray-with-crown makes me think he's been getting mad rutty.

Nicholas Williams

Well right off the bat, “you old bent crap” did not deserve to flutter to the cutting room floor.

Achewood

Oh, if you're into that, I could post that noise all day long. I'll add some more of that to these installments!

Achewood

Could be an old skate punk album cover by Pushead.

Achewood

Especially after he heard about all this No Kings stuff going this year. He's concerned the zeitgeist has turned against kings.

Achewood

Sad-rutty, by the reflective nature here. Is that a thing? Sadly, yes. But I doubt Ray would be much for sadness sex. We love our boy, don't want to think of him that way.

Achewood

I have heard other chatter of appreciation for this visual, of a crap that isn't even good enough to extrude straightly. Or it bent after the fact, due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Taylor

The most surprising thing about this process to me is that the sound effects are placed before any of the art

Achewood

This strip started when I thought of the word "Pop!" and then I reverse engineered all that stuff about necks and moms in to it.
