Back in the days when my mom would sit and read in the chairs at the barbershop while I got my little haircuts, I would sit silently and drink in the Talk of Men murmuring around me. Silver-topped codgers and mystacinous burleys shared mundane details from hunting trips, mild skepticism of town politics, fresh Carson zingers. I was a non-participatory, probationary onlooker. An NPC, in today's lingo. I wouldn't have dared speak if not asked a direct question. I internalized and imprinted their calm energy, polite baton-passing, and circumspect replies. A simple but positive assessment of the finished trim, always with the hand mirror to view the shaved nape, and a sweeping of the fluff before the next customer. The barber formally offered me a lollipop as mom tendered the few small bills, and I received it politely, praying I would not be called upon for a response more complex and vulnerable than Thank You. I never was.

The presence of White Claw in a pub *does* tell you everything you need to know

Daniel M Ford

I wish I could be 30% as cool as Cornelius when I grow up. Secondly, how much money would I have to raise to get you to allow someone to open The Dude&Catastrophe as a real pub?

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Mystinaceous: Having a stripe or fringe of hairs suggestive of a moustache. "This word is now obsolete. It is only recorded in the 1830s." - OED. Damn. Pulled a Cornelius on us. Trivia exchange: Ninja Sex Party and TWRP covered Something About You on their album Under The Covers 2. This is my version of what I heard and saw men do - trading information. But I was a girl so my perspective was different. (had to edit, sorry)

Mark King is pretty dang fucking badass

Josh Fireland

What prompted the change from Braveheart to Caligula I wonder. Feels like that will set a very different vibe for this get-together.

Achewood

It was an even more jarring yet entirely believable juxtaposition with Golf Channel, when imaging them picture-in-picture together.

Achewood

He's done a lot for human happiness, he has

Achewood

Do ninjas have sex? Is this known?

Achewood

I wouldn't want anything more than to know it was being done correctly. Which would be its own considerable challenge. C does have several blogs on its establishment and aims, I believe.

Achewood

I like to think Cornelius still doesn't know what White Claw is. Not because he hasn't seen it, but because he doesn't take it seriously as a visual which requires further processing

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

YES. Ninja Brian at least definitely fux. He has an undisputed child, Ninja Audrey, as proof. The other member of the band, Danny Sexbang, is more likely to get it on with your dustbuster and has no offspring. The lore on NSP is too deep to go into here but I have been a fan for probably 12 years now. It's like if Flight of the Conchords were video game nerds.

Achewood

Okay, I don't know what any of this means, but as soon as I am on my enemy's computer I am going to look this ALL up.

John Robinson

I grew up (and still live) in suburban Chicago. On May 20, 1991, I was 13 years old and getting a haircut after one of the last days of eighth grade. The barbershop had 2 chairs working that day, and the TV was on, tuned to local news. Word had just gotten out that the Chicago Cubs had just fired beloved baseball character Don Zimmer from the position of manager. I can distinctly recall the barber's voice even today, when I audibly expressed incredulity at the move. He said, "Yeah, they canned him" in a honking Chicago accent that would not have been out of place in a Saturday Night Live "Superfans" sketch. Even then, I silently thought of the Norman Rockwell quality of learning such news in such a way. Thank you for prompting this bit of memory, sir. Now when is the next scheduled man getting punched in the erection?

Achewood

A lovely vignette of pure Americana. I just learned (from Odenkirk's audiobook) not two hours ago that Bob was a co-creator of "Bill Swerski's Superfans," which you invoke here. His audio bio and podcast appearances are great, especially the improv chemistry he and David Cross get up to on Cross's show.

The Clooney ball is a keeper.

David Mandeix

A Cornelius blog post where Ray makes him come over and try white claw and they compare tasting notes would absolutely RIP

Achewood

To really get this right I'd have to taste a White Claw, although I like to think I can imagine one well enough. Club soda with seven false lime molecules from New Jersey. A dextrosey rinse from the DeKuyper's Apricot, cut with Topo Chico. Topo Chico, but for even bigger douchebags.

Bruce Wright

Club soda spiked with the cheapest possible ethyl alcohol, then the container is kept in the presence of a photo of fruit for several days.

David Mandeix

This was as accurate as it was vivid.
