In this new series, we examine the roads not taken — strips which could have been. Here I present to you the strip which forever added two u's to "hugs," October 25, 2001, "The miniature golf hole."

Chris Daniels

don 't worry about the guy who won't speak, just put his body in your van and you will be the winner (of miniature golf)

Eric Bradford

If it's any consolation, Cornelius, that man is going in the van

b.zap

A lot can go wrong when golfing

Kriegsaffe No. 9

In the final what-could-have-been, the crew have precious few moments before they start their first night in Five Nights at Golf Hole.

Jenn

Can't help but think "toilet with a joke hole that's just for farts" 😆

Oppido

Twelve panels and only two exposed bholes? What am I even paying for.

Anthony Thompson

New band name Christy Canyon On TV At The Japanese Train Station just dropped.

Bruce Wright

Wait, Christy's on the television? (Rushes from room)

Ian Stewart

The fellow in the fourth strip is obviously challenging the players to hit a "hole in one." But which hole? It is only implied, although rather strongly.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

1. The OG. 2. Lyle may as well just camp out where he is as squatty makes easier potty. 3. Rough chuckles, oh the pork chops and rice he could have had. 4. In the last panel, he is the winner.

Nate

Still loving these

Distant Egg Song

I'm imagining an Achewood where Philippe is marginally more aware of the world and less nice as a result. The ramifications range from the merely tragic to the apocalyptic.

Sedric and Charlie

Well you see Philippe we can only have so much pathos at one time, and you know Roast Beef burns through quite a lot of it. Now admittedly we didn't always spend your share of the pathos as wisely as we could have, like the time you accidentally killed a french fry, or the time you thought you'd gotten a flower pregnant, and that's on us. But the couch arc was good, right?

Chris Warren

I almost hurt myself reading #2 and #4. Lyle, always fun (I especially liked his "how to be a cook" class -- felt brutally realistic); and the Nice Pete basketball game has never left my mind since I first read it.

Jason S

I don't remember Lyle having such a jaunty cap! Poor Lyle. I think there's a decent fellow sloshing about within, but whiskey mix-ups.

Nicholas Williams

One of my favorite Achewood tropes is Lyle making "full eye contact" while doing gross/rude/shameful things.
