Beneficent and Eternally Patient Friend Of The Library, Who Is Like Some Kind of Grotto Statue,

I missed a strip posting last Friday after Thanksgiving, and it was very important I make it up to you. I'm still crafting Ray's next methy move in Animal Germany, so here is a comic about how Ray's grandfather, legendary bluesman Antonyne Cheops Smuckles, aka Rustmouth Chafings, wrote his songs. There will still be a new comic this coming Friday.

Read All Strips At Once

In the meanwhile, in case you missed it, I set up a Collection here in the Achewood Patreon called Read All Strips At Once. You can go in there and click straight through the archive, just like we used to in the old days, when the politicians' hair was brown and the burgers were turkey.

I Solved Another Problem You May Have

If you're having a hard time holiday shopping like I am, digital gifts are more of a thing now. Please consider gifting a subscription to the Patreon to a friend or loved one! It's dead easy: choose how many months you want to give, then get a link you can share to them. It won't auto-renew. This is an even better gift now that the archive is binge-able. Thank you!

Died wealthy & respected, surrounded by family. Loser.

Perhaps Rustmouth's stream-entrance is why he was not the man who had it worst. On the other hand, favorable rebirth and/or nibbana - not a bad deal. If you're not a blues man, that is.

It’s the only honest response to an end-of-days situation.

If there were points, +100 points for “Buddhism’s just another word for nothin’ left to lose.”

OK fine since you triggered something deep in my core since childhood days: "Buddhism's just another word for/ Nothing left to lose/ Nothing, ain't worth nothing/ But it's free. // Feelin' good was easier/ when Buddha sang the blues/ Feelin' good was good enough for me/ Good enough for me, and Buddha McGee" ^Yeah, I know the OG version is classic Janice, but I always liked the gender-swapped Grateful Dead cover versions from after her death. She had been close with the band, and you can hear them mourning their friend through her music, and it fits the sweet and sad vibe of the song perfectly: "Then somewhere near Salinas/ Lord, I let her slip away/ Looking for that home I hoped she'd find/ But I'd trade all my tomorrows/ For a single yesterday/ Holding Bobby's body close to mine." It takes on a whole new, poignant meaning. THE END, NO MORAL.

“You file your taxes?” can turn any sunny chirp into a lonesome blue note

This is why we pretend that anything members of the Grateful Dead did outside of the years 1970-1976 simply did not happen. It's a much better band that way.

(Just to be pedantic here, the OG version is Kris Kristofferson/Roger Miller)

Having now filed my taxes, I got nothin' more to be blue about. My blues ain't got no soul, ain't nothin' bluer than that.
