Téodor needs to leave that work environment now, before he kills someone

Johnny Deans

I don’t know the actual title of the management guide to headfucking that guy read, but I’ve worked under at least a couple ineffective meat suits that read, at least, the Cliff’s Notes version…

b.zap

ain't no cure for what ails that little bear

Zen Window

or--hear me out--he needs to kill everyone there and then leave

Bruce Wright

Yep, there's gonna be a shootin' sure as yer born

Johnny Deans

My strategy has been to feign puzzled contrition (the puzzled part is easy) , acknowledge the meat suit’s obviously superior intellect and well-earned position of authority (without laughing), and then immediately update the resume.

I like to think that working at 1950s Microsoft is just Teodor's personal purgatory. Only he will never learn or grow or expiate his flaws.

coolguy456

I'm delighted (and very surprised!) to see the return of the surreal antique Microsoft setting. I still think about Teodor failing to budget the catering for the big event every time I leave something too late in my professional life.

Dickie

I want this to segue into a period-piece retelling of Beef's dumbwaiter cocaine confession.

Jason S

Marvelous choice of soundtrack! Also, I agree that this is where Teodor finds himself each time he dies and goes to hell, Subaru Brat not pictured.

Jason K

Halt and Dance Laps Also, my mind couldn't help but to overlay the pause music for Battletoads on the NES onto the Brubeck. Not helpful.

Ryan Boyle

Incomprehensible conversations in surreal environments are literally my nightmares. Or at least the dreams that wake me up feeling shitty. What was your inspiration here?

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

How do they look so much like people who gladly support the cocaine trade? Boss man is so much more than he seems.

Dan W

Saddest thing is Téodor can't even afford one.

Achewood

Yeah. You can’t just buy them fifteen seconds at a time.

Achewood

This was usually how I felt at work. Mixed with 1 tbsp what I think I remember Twin Peaks being like.

Achewood

Is that a Halt and Catch Fire reference, because goddamn what a show

Achewood

There is a sliver of light at the back of the bathroom cabinet at 62 Achewood Court. When Téodor indeliberately brushes his hand through it, he is transported here for one second, long enough to have these experiences

Achewood

Oh man, the place with a waterfall in the main dining room This tale could be told

Achewood

I think there have been two prior but correct me if I’m wrong. One here and one at Achewood.com

A. Hamster

My takeaway is that if they paid him better, he wouldn’t have to sell his body to the night.

coolguy456

Yep, there's one here (4 Feb 2025) and the one on the website (18 Jan 2008) (I feel like I'm writing a Marvel editor's note with the dates). And, actually, a little slice of Microsoft at the bottom of 16 January, which I'd forgotten about. So much scene-setting in just three panels! I got my first job through "connections" and the boss' mix of condescension, not wholly concealed resentment, and just a little bit of pity, is extremely true to life, or at least to my own life. This is mortifying to admit, but the internet was a confession booth before it was most other things.

When talking to friends about TV and pop culture from the 90's I have occasionally been asked things like "Man do you remember how trippy Twin Peaks was"? Or " Don't you think Twin peaks is what made Lost possible in the American zeitgeist"? I always try to say something that makes me seem connected to what they're saying without being too specific because I didn't watch any of that shit. So I try to kind of deflect and distract, but I usually end up saying something lame like "Do you remember Marylin from Northern Exposure? She was pretty cool"

2scrogz

The contrast between their very serious conversation and their very silly outfits just makes things even weirder.

Jason S

"BOMB ... OR TREE?"

Stavro

Northern Exposure and Twin Peaks were shot like an hour from each other, at the same time! Both excellent, especially Marilyn indeed

Jason K

Absolutely! For some reason I thought you were using a similar “Silicon Prairie” setting.

Achewood

Check out Trentemøller, the theme song composer. I actually have the theme song on a playlist and I am not embarrassed of this at all.
