Last week's trivia contest went so well that I put together a second — slightly tougher — version. Don't forget to come back and brag about your score, the ones that stymied you, and the victories you pulled from the clutches of defeat! Also: are we into this? Shall I write a third quiz?

Take Me To Trivia Nite Round 2: Medium-Hard Mode!

Fast facts from quiz #1:

301 people took the first quiz.

24 people got perfect scores.

Only one one out of three knew where the super-secret ice cream shop was. 50% of the respondents answered "Bakersfield," home of the Great Outdoor Fight.

296 people knew Rod Huggins was Pat's boyfriend. Two people unfortunately knew it was Rham Slingins.

283 people remembered that George Clooney was learning Coptic. That joke was made in 2005. Think about that.

Only 167 people knew Rock Dorado was Ray's romance pen name. 50 people thought it was Desmond Thacker; 43 Lance Beltramo.

33% of players thought Denny's had the hellmouth toilet (correct: Friendly's). This does not bode well for IRL Denny's.

Almost everybody knew Robert Smith sits down in the bath tub to take a bath.

One-third of people thought Todd was descended from a baggie of meth.

Distant Egg Song

23/30. The Roast Beef shirt was the only one I'm kicking myself over; I talked myself into switching from the correct answer.

Dan

15/30; I'll take it considering how hard this one was. One fun thing to note, which will probably not be news to the die-hards here but which I've always gotten a kick out of: if you look at the receipt for the underpants purchase on Beef's Me Day, he also buys a pack of licorice chews, which then gets called back to over a decade later during the Golden Tabloid arc

chillier

25/30. Fuck me that one was tough.

Matt Mitchell

27/30. A couple of those I’d say are arguably “hard” rather than “medium” - like Andy’s Stratocaster, haha wow.

zoë

didn't get very many of these right but i knew for sure that it was that number of AIBOs

Ryan Boyle

Oof. I have some rereading to do, there are whole characters and subplots I didn't recognize.

Derek Adams

28/30, same as I got on the first one. Missed Beef's butterball liquor and Spongebath's last name. The first I couldn't recall and the latter I don't think I ever knew or could even find if I had to.

chillier

For most of the ones I got incorrectly, I can picture the actual strip and most of the other text, but just can't remember that one little detail. For Spongebath's last name and the Andy Guitar one, I genuinely don't even remember the strips where these occurred. Oof.

Amelia Hall

27/30 - whiffed on the AIBOs, Spongebath's surname, and the erotica studio. That was a fun one, and definitely got lucky on Andy's stratocaster. I've been enjoying how these help me get through the midweek. Well done, and excited/nervous for what you throw down for "hard mode."

Shawn Clark

12/30. That’s why I sit close to the door on trivia night.

Achewood

28 on this one is pretty astounding.

Achewood

25 is admirable. This turned out to be a lot harder than I realized. What stumped you hardest?

Achewood

That’s an astounding score. This one seems to have been harder than intended.

Achewood

25 is great (ignore the scoring key). This one turned out harder than I intended.

Achewood

Black licorice since the DAY Unpopular as HELL

TaxoBob

25/30, some hard ones there. Disappointed in myself.

Obvious Instance

That was way harder. 25/30. This is a good activity, for adults

Spyguitar

24/30. Missed: - best of hot tub brawls, clearly it's time for a rewatch - 19th century erotica, talked myself out of the correct answer - Doc. Andretti's first name, again, talked myself out of the right answer - Andy's Strat. Who the heck is Andy? - Beef's Butterball hotline drink - Beef's registry On the other hand, I was pleased - chuffed, even - to get Ray's Poem and Beef's Shirt. Plenty happy with my score here

Daniel M Ford

21/30. Three times I selected and then de-selected the correct answer, but this is a coward's excuse.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

I did better this time with 28/30. Two of my 50/50 guesses were wrong.

Shawn Warren

25! mad at myself for not getting who Showbiz owed money to or Dornheim's car, I knew both of those and choked!

Achewood

You’re way ahead of the curve here, literally

Achewood

Astounding score! This one was apparently twice as hard as the last one

Achewood

You’re still ahead of the mean.

Achewood

Andy is the rectangle robot with no personality (easy to forget)

Achewood

That’s a great score for a test that was like twice as hard as the last one

Achewood

25 is a great score considering how old and arcane all these were.

Distant Egg Song

Andy is one of the robots that isn't Lie Bot, Chucklebot, or Vlad. Kinda looks like a monolith. I think that detail must be in the blogs, because I can't find anything about it in the comics.

Achewood

Hay man, this edition had like a dozen Threadville Equivalents

Achewood

This may have actually been medium-hard mode. I may dial it back for next time

Achewood

You didn’t remember the names of the three stones Lonis Edison used to curse a bottle of off-brand ketchup twenty years ago. Who even are you.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Consider that something, probably the weather and stress-induced bruxism, tweaked up a pinched nerve in my jaw and it becomes even more impressive. To be completely fair it was definitely challenging and I made more than a few correct 50/50s. I am curious to see how deep the cuts will be next time.

Mina Roller

I can't brag on my score Dangit

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

I got Spongebath's last name wrong too. I felt bad for a fictional character for not remembering anything about him other than that he's fat. :(

Gavin Byrnes

18. This was *way* harder than last time, and much appreciated! I need to study up for the third one, clearly.

Andrew Reynolds

21/30. This one was significantly more difficult. I second guessed my correct answers to Doc Andretti's name, AIBO count, and Beef's video rental. X( I am into this. A third quiz would be enjoyable!

Achewood

I might dial back the difficulty for the next one. Still learning to how calibrate these. I’d say based on how much I remember of anything from two decades ago, 21 is a superb score.

Asherdan

OK, yeah I pulled the curve down on this one.

Achewood

Yeah I’m still learning how to calibrate these. Your score is right at the mean so far.

Achewood

Next time will be a little gentler. I may have underestimated the obscurities.

Achewood

It’s from a strip where vlad is at the bar bitching to lie bot about how Andy doesn’t want to hang out. And has his CDs alphabetized.

Achewood

He also weeps when Emeril does

Andrew Reynolds

Don't get me wrong - only speaking for myself, I enjoyed the difficulty level. It's fun to have an interactive refresher!

Achewood

That’s the one I would have most likely missed had I not written the quiz myself

Achewood

It was significantly harder than I thought. I think I’ll write the next one from memory, rather than while looking at the archives, to draw from what I assume will be more memorable information.

Gavin Byrnes

There's nothing wrong with having some variety in the difficulty levels. Learned League is calibrated so that the average get rate is right around 50%. Given how devoted your chochachos are that might be hard to do, but anywhere between 60 and 80 seems totally reasonable and fun. I do wonder what effect it would have on the get rate to have one that omitted the multiple choice aspect (it's very helpful)

Achewood

No 30s so far. One 29. Identify yourself, trivia master!

Derek Adams

Achewood has been for a long time my go-to bookmark when I'm at work and my brain needs 3 minutes to recover or wait out a process. Brain tape since young times.

Elmore

Question 4 was great. My wife got me a signed print of this which is on full display at my big-boy job with a big-boy chair. I knew the answer, but glanced over anyways.

Amy Lewis

I'm disappointed in myself with 25/30 after acing the first quiz, DAMMIT. That was fun but humbling.

Kriegsaffe No. 9

I love these so much. I second-guessed myself out of a few correct choices, I coulda been at 21!

Crumbles

I missed out on the first one, but managed 25/30 here, tons of fun! I think I conflated two strips and guessed a place Lyle drank with Todd. For the record, I knew I was getting the 19th C. erotica wrong but I was confounded, and I knew I was getting the Stratocaster wrong, but I wanted with all my heart for my pick to be right.

Jake McIntyre

23, down from 29. Definitely a more challenging set. No shame in my game, except for one answer: I should not have forgotten the full prank call rotation. That feels like a moral failing.

Jake McIntyre

He's a dick! That's the germ of a personality, right there.

Travis O.

I just blurted out "dammit!" loud enough for my wife to hear me from down the hall, because I only got 27/30. As the saying goes, some folks don't got to be stoned to have strange cares

Mina Roller

How do you see which ones you missed? (Old, losing my computer mojo) 😞

Nicholas Williams

MOTHER FUCKER the shirt question got me. I would have rather got NONE of them right than mother fucking TWENTY NINE. God damns this. I demand another quiz so I can ace that shiiizzzz.

A. Hamster

26/30, I got the AIBOs but second-guessed the shirt and forgot the dental dams.

Evan Tessier

30/30. The vintage erotica and Dr. Andretti's first name were both huge guesses that paid off, and I could only remember one of the hot tub brawlers.

Traedran

28/30. Naturally, the questions I missed where in two (Music for Goths, Cars of Men) of my three worst fields (Sports.) Also worth noting: These are genuinely just fun to do. Thank you.

TaxoBob

Number of AIBOs, sheesh. Also, the Beef's Meds was [relatively] more recent and I didn't remember that at all. Disappointed I could not recall Dornheim's car.

Jacquelyn R Walters

So many I almost answered right and then overthought and changed to the wrong answer. Not my best showing. 14/30

Achewood

Niiiiiice There has been one other 30 (me, testing it) so you are in rare air my friend!

Achewood

Oh my god dude the one biff was from the third most popular strip of all time That’s almost performance art Téodor

Achewood

Doesn’t it show you on the same page that returns your score?

Achewood

That’s a killer score on this edition man

Achewood

Drabble is a strip a lot of people never saw. Heathcliff should have gotten roasted but didn’t. It was a tricky one.

Achewood

This quiz was like twice as hard, judging by the distro of scores, so 25 is a pretty damn great score!

Achewood

I think if you have the answer to one of the questions literally hanging on the wall next to you, that is a valid crib

Achewood

A Cho doesn’t want charity 💪🏻

Mina Roller

I must have missed that! I was at lunch with my mother, so distracted

Achewood

Is the “get rate” the number one gets correct? I can do open-ended questions, which I have been considering because yeah that eliminates the benefits of prompting and elimination

Achewood

The real Dornheim drove a Honda, that’s how I’ll always remember (Mike dornheim, aviation journalist, alumni friend)

Achewood

28 is still superb. I’m really going to have to work to get the mean down to 0, given how dedicated Chos are

b.zap

19/30

Achewood

Respect. All of those strips are old enough to rent a uhaul.

Oppido

20/30. I ate shit on that question about Beef's shirt, but for some reason Robert L. "Spongebath" Dane's full name was right there on my fingertips. Weird what sticks to the flypaper. (Also, always glad to see an Andy nod. Come join the party at r/andyfromachewoodfanfic. MATURE READERS ONLY.)

Stavro

18/30 and it felt hard-won. Had a handful down to 2 and lost the coin flip, but overall just some good trivia

Gavin Byrnes

Yeah, percentage correct. And yeah I'm not saying you necessarily *should* do open-ended questions (the multiple choice definitely jogs people's memories), just that it would be interesting to see as well

Idiot Man

"I can't remember how many AIBOs Roast Beef had" is the sort of phrase that only Achewood could allow me to say without being suspected of either having a stroke or calling in some kind of black ops strike team, maybe both at the same time. Red base, we've got Dornheim in a Honda and the KitchenAid has got no dough hook, repeat no dough hook. 25 out of 30 do you copy

Achewood

More people thought his last name was Coitier than Dane. Coitier had never appeared anywhere in Achewood.

Achewood

Damn I would read the hell out of some Andy fanfic

Achewood

18 is the mean this time. And it is harder than I thought it would be.

Achewood

That’s some high gluten game, brother. The baying hematite has landed. Repeat, Butters has guzzled the Hunt’s.

Oppido

Community consensus is that he probably used to have arms and he keeps the Fender Strat around out of a tragic inability to accept this new chapter of his life.

Oppido

I assume rib-eyes and mimosas made an appearance at some point.

Nate

My score is the score of a shameful man and shan't be repeated here. These questions were so deep in the woods of minutae that even the 9 I got right were hard won and many incorrect answers were my second guesses. Very tough quiz. I can't imagine what hard mode would be. "Can you name the model of the drum machine for which the manual is being stood on by Phillipe"?

Mina Roller

Unfortunately no, just her usual triple pepperoni (she is almost 90 and has stents but insists on ordering her "Superoni" pizza)

Bungus Bronbo

19/30, I'll run with it. How anyone could forget "FUCK YOU MIKE" and how anyone could remember all of the meds on Roast Beef's registry is beyond me. I appreciate that you put Dr Andre Andretti because I metaphorically swerved off the road for that answer. Also, given the number of people that learned George Cloony is learning Coptic proves that shirt slogans are a viable method of educating the masses.

Zach M

17/30 damn that one had some deep cuts

Bungus Bronbo

Just occured to me, if you wanna make one that's like the test needed to pass for an achewood doctorate, throw in questions only found in the blogs

Asherdan

You do you. I will say, this was still fun.

FactWino

12. Same category as the last one. How can you expect someone of my age to remember things?

Achewood

damn, I'd literally have to go into storage to find that answer

Achewood

I wonder if anyone has ever asked Clooney if he is indeed learning Coptic. If they did, I bet he looked at them blankly for a second before speeding off in a vintage wooden motorboat across Lake Como.

Achewood

The Master's Series is only going to be about Charley's blog

Achewood

I do have a plan for a Blog Series. I think three people will play it.

Achewood

Because your name literally means that you are addicted to facts

Nate

Amongst others, you did entrap me cleverly with Heathcliff, but on further thought, Heathcliff and Ray would probably vibe hard.

FactWino

Yeah, but...Well, you see...Dammit, you got me there. Consuming too many facts when I was younger put holes in my brain. Don't do facts, kids.

John Robinson

17/30, which, frankly, was better than I expected as I was taking the quiz.

Paul Dunn

OMG 27/30 I have shamed myself and my descendants to come. Still had a blast trying to remember though!

Chris Daniels

I did worse than the medium-hard mode! 19/30, with only one that I talked myself out of. I should have known better with that lonis question though
