Two choco-chunks for you this week: the usual outtakes, and a glimpse into what I see about three hours before I stitch everything together, kern the sick burns, and plop it into Photoshop for Optimal Web File Size.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but I am enjoying a five hour delay at PDX while Alaska Airlines finds a flight to replace the one I was supposed to be on, only the plane never showed up. I would like today's thread to be stories which indicate that the air travel industry is slowly unraveling. You shouldn't have to look far; chances are good you are also stuck at an airport while reading this. Godspeed good Chochacho.

That bottom left corner on page 1. ¡Qué sabroso! I once spent $16 on half a turkey wrap in a sundried tomato flatbread at MSP before flying to Duluth and then driving 2 hours to Ely, MN. The canoe trip along the boundary waters compared to that food at that price kind of blew my mind. We have ravens and bears and wolves and skies where you can still see so many stars, and then we have AIRPORTS. Fuck a dang airport.

Oddly the only time I ever get into arguments about Mexican food is when some white dude from LA goes on about how Mission burritos aren't real burritos. My Mexican friends don't have a problem with them at all.

Spyguitar

Obviously fuck a dang airport, but if you have to be in an airport, you could do worse than MSP. You could not do better than being in a canoe in the Boundary Waters, though, this is extremely correct

A friend from New Zealand is going to visit a friend in Canada soon. I hope that the care package I was meaning to send to her (which would cost 500 dollars) will not cost the same to send to Canada by the time she arrives. Among other fears that I am trying not to have a real one about.

wait, you still fly? glutton for punishment

I sat in an airport for on the order of nine hours before Delta told me that no, there would simply be no flight today, return tomorrow and hope that the tarmac has magically sprouted a new Embraer overnight. I remember this one with some clarity, above and beyond a large fistful of similar indignities, because of an ad for a Glen Campbell documentary with maybe 0.8 seconds of music in it. "Like a rhine stone COW BOY-" he sang before being cut off, maybe every 5 or ten minutes, again and again, in between whatever the hell else CNN was advertising that day.

I am on an airplane as we speak. Earlier, I paid 30 dollars to guy fieri for a premade sandwich and a 20oz soda. "Maybe ju and me are amigos!"

I have had fresh buñuelo. Mexico makes a strong case for the best food in the universe but I am constantly disappointed by the desiccated starch wads they call pastries.

Omnithea

Are you on the way to Alaska?

My esposa flew home to Illinois from NM recently. She wanted to get there early because the TSA had just been funded the day before. She got there two hours early and spent about 10 minutes getting through the line (good work, ABQ), but her flight got delayed twice. She ended up spending 10 hours at the airport that day.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

I remember thinking ABQ was quite pleasant but it was 1992 and I was going away to college from rural WI. I learned that I take green chile over red. Not at the airport though.

I spend my days doing HW QUAL for your popular type air carriers IFE. I also haven't flown willingly in 19 years. Make of that what you will.

Achewood

The only service I truly appreciate at any airport is the recombobulation area in Milwaukee

Achewood

See, I’m from California so I just thought a mission burrito *was* the archetypal burrito. Turns out it’s a Fussy Burrito. See? Do you seeeed nowww

Achewood

What’s in the care package? An armoire? (In the 18th century, that would have been a valid question)

Achewood

Nine hours is enough time to get like…hmmm…three styes

Achewood

Which airport was that? At some point in the last two years I remember turning down one of those premade fieri sandwiches for price reasons. That’s basically my only form of airport recreation.

Achewood

Never buy the conchas, no. They seem to need like an entire cup of coffee drained onto them to make sense. Maybe they’re for cleaning sinks and the Mexicans are just laughing at us

Achewood

What, and get trampled by a moose? Nah, Los Angeles. Where I’ll get trampled by someone in lululemon taking a FaceTime in her ironic cherried Bronco

Kriegsaffe No. 9

Two pounds of cat paraphernalia and a t-shirt.

Achewood

That’s what I’m talkin’ about. Throw in a couple styes and we got the whole package

Achewood

Always with the interesting jobs in here. Are you the one who makes it so only rich people can text?

Stavro

It was the only downside of my first time at Burbank Airport.

CyanideJesus

I was in MSP waiting for a connection to tiny CWA (Wausau, Wisconsin) heading home from a horrible 7-day automotive manufacturing certification training in Detroit, when the handful of folks waiting were told the flight had been cancelled. It was 9pm, we were on a neglected arm of MSP, no food or beverage vendors within a 20-minute walk…

CyanideJesus

I ended up waiting for 8 hours in that desolate

Asherdan

The unstated goal is to make you not rich if you must text.

Achewood

I think I speak for all of us when I say we want to hear what a horrible 7-day automotive manufacturing certification training is all about.

Achewood

Overnight in airports is definitely when you get styes. Could be useful info for Big Stye

Achewood

That you for your service of enabling me to binge John Adams without buying Peacock.

Iron Head Rat

Lonis! I often wonder what that guy is up to.

Achewood

I've been thinking more about Lonis lately. It's heavy on my mind. He very nearly appeared here, but it would have been too appropriate, like a lawn chair on a sunny day when everyone has, for reasons you can't discern, ceased to hate you. I want to see Lonis again.
