My wife sent me a podcast episode about this lady named Mel Robbins who is talking to another lady who is an expert on something called "Mother Hunger." Mother Hunger is the situation where you had a rough go of it as a baby, specifically because of your mom not being so hot at her job, and that dearth of security and safety rippling ever outwards in one's life, causing all manner of unhappy ruckus. The lady even claimed that it has been proven female embryos carry something like three generations of ovum within themselves, meaning you just can't get away from your ancestors' shit at all, if epigenetic dispositioning is to be believed (and why not!). So, we are basically still paying dues from wooden clog days, when everybody was hitting each other and barfing onto cow flop. And those were the rich folks. What I am saying is, be nice, because most folks got screwed before papa even had an eye to twinkle with.

Yeah, we all carry the scars of our grandparents: mom in the womb of grandma, her developing ovaries getting hella razzled by superfund sites, bakelite, unfiltered cigarettes, or famine (pick a few). And then you come from your mom's razzled ovaries, and if you're lucky/unlucky enough to also have ovaries, her stressing/hormones/superfund sites/epigenetic razzling affects your own development. It's a big effect on cardiovascular health and obesity risk, in that if your grandparents survived famine, you're more or less coded to hold on to fat as you age (and are at higher risk of "cardiovascular events"). Supposed to be compensatory, but who anticipated fast food on every corner being a reality ~100 years prior, amidst famine.

Accidentally? Man, I thought that was a deliberate joke. Made me think of this one: "What's the difference between a garbanzo bean and a chickpea? I wouldn't pay $100 to have a garbanzo bean on my face." Edit: There's a 1-star review of the Mother Hunger book that says "I hate this information."

They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had And add some extra, just for you. (Larkin always hits)

b.zap

Don't say "raw hiney ginger" too loud or Teodor will get another risotto idea

Achewood

There are remarkably few jokes based on the pronunciation of chickpea, which may be due to the peaceful and inward nature of those who consume chickpeas.

Achewood

This is PRECISELY why whenever I hear a car horn go "awooga!" I jump up like a hurdler and clap my hands in the space between my knees.

Achewood

Evolution is a game of telephone which led to telephones that will kill us all

Achewood

the ginger gingerly gingers with ginger

One of the fun things this extra level of access affords is that I can read this brief story not just as an unexpected meeting of the minds between Pat and Lyle, but also an ur-narrative of the writer wrestling with the question of free will as it relates to his tendency to end stories with the formation of a questionable business enterprise.

Bruce Wright

Data centers are involved, I’m sure, somehow

Douglas Wykstra

Perhaps our grandchildren will all be compensatorily heroin-chic-skinny, and the supermodels of this future world Rubenesque figures that said grandchildren will have to be warned against trying to imitate.

Amelia Hall

In the future, there will be keto-proteinmaxxing shoppes on every corner, and all of the water will be laced with ultra-ozempic. The heroin-chic teens show their ribs and hip bones fashionably, but as it turns out, fat titties are the truffles of the lady body community.

Ian Stewart

Yeah, leaving that first panel on the cutting room floor was the right call. "Hiney-fidgeting" is a core practice in the alternative-health circles Pat runs in, I doubt he would be that uncomfortable. Please do not ever ask me about the registered nurse who once propositioned me with a coffee enema.

Nicholas Williams

I guess I just to imagine IDEA #1 in my sad brain…sigh.

FactWino

Hey so, I’m curious about the nurse who propositioned you with a coffee enema. Can you tell us more about that? Was it supposed to get you “in the mood”? How did she bring this up in conversation, was there a segue? What was the coffee enema supposed to do? Did you submit to said coffee enema and if so, how was it?

Kriegsaffe No. 9

Free will is fine but I am always tragically on the lookout for healthy protein snacks. Also, I played Thank Goodness You're Here and had a damn fine time!

Achewood

"AND WHO DON'T LIKE TRUFFLES IN THE CREAM SAUCE OF A DAY" —RQS—

Achewood

FINALLY sorry finally someone appreciates the work I put into these things

Achewood

I am considering doing a strip about the time the registered nurse offered you a coffee enema, please expand

Achewood

Hey, this comic strip is just satire of OTHER dudes, not me, not fair to say that

Achewood

Imagine throwing up super-hard onto a plate. But also choosing a plate, in your fervor to find a...thing...to barf in. You're not making good decisions, because of the alcohol and the panic. It's amazing. I know everybody is mad at AI but this seems like something it'd be good at.

Achewood

Did you "finish" the game I.e. randomly wander around until it said that you had won? That was my underwhelming experience of it. I had actually enjoyed the game until I realized that was how it ended.

Achewood

I grew up inside an actual copy of MAD magazine. Don Martin announced all the play-by-play action.

Matt Mitchell

I totally didn’t, but apparently might as well have. You’re my adult MAD experience

Kriegsaffe No. 9

When you put it like that, yeah, it's pretty anticlmactic. I didn't mind, though, I enjoyed the journey well enough that ending on a shrug rather than punctuation didn't dampen my mood about it.

Scott Adams is trapped in purgatory à la Leo Fontanette, ceaselessly reinventing the Dilberito

Nicholas Williams

Pat barfing on to a plate - the barf ricocheting wildly - is the image I use to calm my brain at 3am when it can't stop thinking of all the things I need to do the next day. It's like instant visual Xanax.

Ian Stewart

Look, if you are unlucky enough to find yourself hospitalized in one of the main facilities in beautiful, sunny* Stockton, California, and you're assigned to just the right staffing rotation, you may be able to request a very special wakeup call. And that is all we will say about that. *Experiences may vary. Remember to lock your vehicle and keep all valuables hidden from sight.

J. Alex

If you can't handle me at my HAFFARGHLE, you don't deserve me at my HLARGHLE.

Achewood

I HATE data, hate it all DAY

Achewood

It’s us as a consumer market who failed the dilberito, we just weren’t smart enough to understand it

Achewood

Yes somehow it goes SPLOINK! And bounces at a perfect 45 degree angle, no curvature in the reflecting jet

Achewood

I find it lazy storytelling! Harumph! Nothing is good enough for me. I am almost 51!

Achewood

And don’t touch my arms! (?)

Achewood

I don't think I've read an old MAD in 35 years. YOU and I should BOTH go do this

Achewood

This is groundbreaking! We could all sleep with an ass catheter, and have it dose out coffee at like 7am, without having to go downstairs and start the pot manually? This could change EVERYTHING this could be how ASTRONAUTS WAKE UP

Ian Stewart

Nah my dogg, more like windbreaking, sorry

Achewood

I truly appreciate that you revere the integrity of the comic form, but should you also do like an Onstad Philosophy Forum to scratch that itch? You know your chochachos would tune in.

Achewood

This would be good for people who truly believe that Sam Harris could reason his way out of an orgasm.
