Hi all, Moira and Adrian got to talking a few weeks ago, and we were wondering: if we were to record an episode on the politics of Slow Horses (books and TV show) in honor of the new book and the new season, would people listen? We thought it might be interesting to talk about spy fiction and gender, about Brexit, and about the show as PMC horror. But we couldn't figure out whether people would be in to it!

So here's the question to you: would that idea appeal? Or are you not as Horses-pilled as we are? Feel free to leave comments or questions for the ep below, just in case we decide to do it!

Thomas Freeman

how about the summer I turned pretty

Betti Tristan

As long as you go far back enough and explain it like I’m five, I’m delighted to listen to anything from y’all two.

Ayako

I loved the show! I binged watched s1 when it came out, and the rest earlier this summer💚

Lindsay Betzel

I gasped with delight at the prospect of an episode on Slow Horses. Doooooo it!

Laura

Never heard of it but my immediate answer is ‘yes’

In Bed With the Right

I (Adrian) haven't seen *any* of it, so this one would require serious research! But is it something we should look into?

Allen

I’d love this! Yes please!

Rahel

I am a simple person: I see In Bed with the Right, I click.

Paul Smolinsky

I think it’s a great idea! But I will not listen to the show because I’ve read only the first 3 books. Don’t want any spoilers 😬😂

Katie

I don’t know what this is, but I will listen to you folks read the phone book if that’s what you want to publish

Kristi Yingling

The only thing that could make Slow Horses better is an in-depth IBwtR analysis. PLEASE DO IT!

Sarah

Basically same. I have no idea what this show is, so as long as you guys give us enough background info so that we understand the gist of it, I'm happy to hear you two talk about nearly anything.

panoptigoth

As a Slow Horse in my chosen profession, I would absolutely listen.

Thomas Freeman

I honestly don’t know. I don’t watch, but it seems like everybody I know has been watching the final season.

Nina V~

i will legitimately listen to y'all break down ANYTHING, plus i think it's good to root our media (esp ~prestige~ productions) in the cultural moment when they're being made

Kathleen R. O'Connell

I am so, so Horses-pilled that it distresses me to note that you're only talking about "an"—as in just one—episode.

Foxhilt

This would definitely give me a kick in the pants to watch the show beforehand!

Carlos Scheidegger

Oooh yes please, but if you continue to indulge us so, we will beg for you to go over the politics of Netflix's Diplomat next!

Gwen

I too haven't heard of this but I have listened to more obscure episodes of this podcast, so if you record it I'll listen ;)

Maureen McCord

Great idea! Some of my friends with quite interesting and incongruent gender/sexuality/politics takes are obsessed with this show (which I've never watched) so I'm very curious about your takes!

Susie Gorden

I would listen to you discuss the gender politics behind Pantone's color of the year choice. Also love the series and books in the Slow Horses series, so yeah, I'm down.

info@judithflanders.co.uk

Frankly, Pantone-colour and gender sounds FAR more interesting than Slow Horses.

Ben

Never heard of it but I’ll listen to anything on the feed

Maddy Dietrich

I would listen to y'all talk about the gender politics of the phone book tbh so yes absolutely

Oliver G

Love the show, would love to hear you talk about it. I like their depiction of smartness in fiction, because it's mostly about smart people being embarrassed about their fuck ups.

Kai Dorothy

Don’t know the show but your covering it might get me into the show or steer me away, but your knowledge and opinions are candy for my brain 🧠 🙌✨

Alex Strasheim

I think you should do it if it interests you. The fact that you think it's interesting or important is itself interesting to me, because I'm interested in what you guys have to say.

James Talley

Vague cultural awareness that this is a thing that exists, maybe connected to Gary Oldman? I am a late, when it's in the remainder bin adopter. But HELLS YES! Lead us, oh, gender sages! Help me get a handle on whether I wish to ever consume some media.

Charley

As a Brit, I’d love you to turn your attention to this. I don’t have an Apple TV subscription so haven’t watched it, but I usually love anything with Kristin Scott Thomas 💜

Shale

Loid Forger is the only spy we stan in this house (I will listen to anything yall post even if I have 0 context for any of it)

Patrick Burke

I have somewhat heard of the show, but i dont know what PMC Horror is. There are many types of horror i dont like, so i might hit delete on this.

Sandy

Enjoyed the books, TIL there was a show, so room for enlightenment!

In Bed With the Right

Professional Managerial Class -- not literal horror, until you consider the cosmic horror of boring meetings haha

Nina

I don't know Slow Horses but I'll listen

ArtsyBlueEyes

forgot about this series- i just reserved the book so im ready for the pod 😊

Laura R

Love that show!

Andrea

I plan to watch it, but haven't had time yet

Ariel

I know nothing about this show, but so long as you give some basic context, I’m willing to follow you guys anywhere. Also, I figured y’all would appreciate that because of you I’m ⅔ of the way through the Richard J. Evans trilogy, and I put in requests for my library to get ebook versions of Klemperer’s LTI and Theweleit’s Männerphantasien. They just got in LTI, so time to brush up on my academic German.

Sage Andersen

My family and I adore this show—even with a teenager in the house—and would love your take on it.

Vigo

Never heard of Slow Horses, but I’m always down for some PMC analysis.

Kerrie Murphy

As someone who has read the books and watched the series, I am happy for you to make this episode as long as you like

Candice Jade

No idea what it is but i trust your guys judgement when it comes to “Things I didn’t know I would find fascinating” 😘😘

May

Whatever you want Mom and Dad. I'm listening.

Nancy Carrozza CaraDonna

I’m off topic here but my IBWTR fantasy episode is a 2-part Arthur Schopenhauer series focusing on his mommy issues! Adrian presenting and Moira doing commentary/analysis. There’s very little information about Johanna Schopenhauer (in English) but she seems quite extraordinary. Why don’t we know about this famous novelist, polyglot, and salonniere who hung out with Goethe? Why did Arthur dislike his mother who encouraged him to drop the merchant apprenticeship and pursue his dream of studying philosophy? What’s with the scathing letter she wrote him?

katytron

i would listen to you guys read the phone book tbh

Louzie

As others have said already: I'd listen to you, whatever you talk about. <3

If you’re touching on popular culture, I’d love to see you do some episodes on gaming, specifically The Last of Us. There was a huge brouhaha a few years ago when The Last of Us Part II came out. Outrage about violations of standards of femininity, trans panic, lesbians (!), death threats to the actors. It was pretty interesting and is right in your wheelhouse. https://www.inverse.com/gaming/last-of-us-2-trans-controversy-explained-abby-tlou
