Hey Shan. *Waves* I’m no superman This is one episode where Dr. Cox doesn’t call JD a girls name. In fact Cox actually had a moment of real emotion in this episode. Carla is the only person to call Dr. Cox out on his bullshit, Cox has heart but he keeps it hidden and you don’t see it that often but it is there. This episode was filmed in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, something which was very emotionally challenging for the cast and crew. Every cast member has a different story about where they were that day and what they went through. The title of the episode is explained as J.D. becoming the best of the interns, giving him a super ego. In Freudian psychology, the super-ego is the part of the psyché that strives for perfection and is described as a person's moral conscience or ideal self.

That has to be one of the hardest parts about being a Doctor treating children. In those cases where you know you can't help them, they are going to die young.

I keep talking about how much I like Dr. Cox and I’m not going to stop, I just love the balance of him being an asshole and him caring a little bit more each episode I watch.
