Kate's dad who she talks about with the Doctor is Sir Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, a character from the old Doctor Who, often referred to as the Brigadier. He headed up UNIT, investigating and dealing with alien threats on Earth, and he was a long-time friend and ally of the Doctor. He's been mentioned a couple times before, he was the person the Doctor called in last season's finale, only to find out he had already died (his actor had just passed away I believe). But he was a big part of the old Doctor Who, so I guess they introduced his daughter as a character to fill a similar role.

Kate Lethbridge Stewart's first appearance was actually in an unofficial spin off film called 'Downtime' made during the wilderness years when Doctor Who was off air in the 90s, she appeared alongside her father and Sarah Jane Smith, Kate was played by a different actress though Chris Chibnall who wrote this episode said he had no idea about the character when creating Kate for this episode, but they are both pretty similar and have the same names

2026-09-06 22:00 James’ Log. Episode 704. Hey Shan hope your okay? Matt Smith put disgust into the Doctor's remark concerning Twitter in the episode, reflecting his real-life decision to stay off the social network, he only rejoined in 2020 to live tweet about your first episode with Karen & The Moffat because the world was in lockdown. Still can’t believe we lived through a global pandemic. Okay so the ending I've heard a lot of people claiming things like the actor was unbearable to work with and he was refusing to shoot scenes or was deliberately putting on a bad performance, and it seems nobody is willing to stand on business and say it with there chest, it’s all hearsay and fan whispers, but I can tell you the ending was changed from the original script which has been posted online. That’s why it feels like such a sprint for the finish rush job in the final 5 minutes. Some say it was meant to be a two parter with the villains arc being much more in depth and I guess we’ll never know. The Doctor mentions inventing Yorkshire pudding in this episode, what is your favourite pudding? Lately I’ve been eating cherry pie. Episode MVP - Brian. Cube watcher, plant waterer - extraordinary human. Less hate for this one “it is what it is” Max Holloway said that and I said - heater from me - bum fluff mustache you get when ya 12/13 years old. Peace out Girl Scouts

Okay episode this, lot more comedy in it, which what we need once in a while. The Doctor getting bored at the Ponds, tries to keep busy still makes me laugh. Best part is seeing the Doctor and the Ponds as a family, cause they are. Also he's married to their daughter in a non creepy way obviously. However, I found his comment on us only having one heart offensive! Pitiful he called it!
