Brings me back to that first theatre viewing and I think was Tom Hanks official crowning as our generations Jimmy Stewart. Back to back best actor wins? Amazing! Was such a great snapshot through America history and Zemekis did such an incredible job bringing this story to life. One of those films that never seems to age..

I haven’t seen this movie since I was a kid! Today is the anniversary of my dad passing so I really needed this! as always love your reactions 🍿🥤

The ping pong was done digitally. As was the compositing to make South Carolina look like Vietnam. A lot of obvious VFX mixed in with so much more invisible stuff which is why this won the Oscar. Gary Sinise took his character’s plight to heart and has been working with veterans groups ever since. As for Jenny (who contracted Hepatitis C due to her lifestyle), I know it can seem like she should treat Forrest better for so much of the film, but her abusive upbringing (and lack of resources to deal with the trauma) created such a deep sense of self-hatred and shame and a twisted view of what love is that she was unable to accept it from others and felt tremendous guilt in accepting help/love/kindness from others which is why she has to keep running from Forrest as she felt like she would only hurt him. So glad you rewatched this. It’s my third favorite film (Good Will Hunting, Leaving Las Vegas) and I never get tired of rewatching it.

In my humble opinion, it’s the 15-20 second scene Tom Hanks expresses so many emotions without uttering a sound that won him his oscar. His overall performance was brilliant but that scene won it.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this again with you, Ames! This time through, I was reminded how perfectly cast the film is. Between Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, and Sally Field, I don't know how anyone could have done it better! An amazing film and a delightful reaction!

All those memes painting Jenny as the ultimate cinematic villain are not wrong.
