It's best to begin, in my opinion, with the film that established the paradigm for all future westerns -- "Stagecoach" (1939), directed by the great John Ford and starring John Wayne.

I agree with all the above as great western's. I would only add "The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford". It is the most factual account of the last few month's of Jesses' life, and after he was murdered. Thanks!

Don Dunco

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, Silverado, 3:10 to Yuma, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Pale Rider, Shane, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Open Range, Dances With Wolves, Two Mules for Sister Sara and The Magnificent Seven!

Justtired

• Silverado (1985) • A Fistful of Dollars (1964) • El Dorado (1966) Silverado is a western comedy with Danny Glover, Kevin Kline and a very young Kevin Costner. A Fistful of Dollars starts you on the Sergio Leone’s “Dollars Trilogy” starring Clint Eastwood. These 3 movies don’t necessarily represent the best westerns of all-time or anything but are sentimental favorites

redddfer44

- High Noon - A Fistful of Dollars - The Wild Bunch "A Fistful of Dollars" isn't Sergio Leone's best, but I'd say it's the best one to start with.

Toc

• Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) • Stagecoach (1939) • One Eyed Jacks (1961)

Eric

—The Man who shot Liberty valance 1962, — The Magnificent Seven 2016, —The Ballad of Buster Scruggs 2018

Darryl Garrett

Young guns, and Maverick (with Jodie foster, Mel Gibson, and James Garner)!

Luetin

Pale Rider 1985 Hang Em High 1968 For a Few Dollars More 1965 There Will Be Blood 2007 (qualifies in my opinion)

Bill Maurer

Anything with John Ford directing and John Wayne acting. Stagecoach Fort Apache The Searchers (my all time favorite) The Man who Shot Liberty Valance 3 Godfathers She Wore a Yellow Ribbon Rio Grande The Horse Soldiers

Clay F

• The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) • Pale Rider (1985) • High Plains Drifter (1973) I also support inclusion in the poll of these two mentioned by others in comments above: "Dances with Wolves" (1990) "3:10 to Yuma" (2007). Interaction between Russell Crowe/Christian Bale characters = mesmerizing

Jeb Manning

-The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) -Django (1966) (This is the original Django movie that helped inspire Django Unchained) -They Call Me Trinity (1970)

LaserLamb

♤ Little Big Man ♡ Desperado ◇ Duck, You Sucker! ♧ I was gonna put "Butch Cassidy....." on the list but I'm sure it'll get on there anyway, & I have an odd soft spot for "Duck, You Sucker!" (1971), because I happened to go see it in a theatre when I was about 10 with a friend. Didn't understand it then, but have rewatched it since & it's a really good story. A Sergio Leone film, Ennio Morricone music & Rod Steiger & James Coburn starring. Can't miss with that star power. I hope it gets on the list!

BRandonG

- Silverado - Maverick - The Cowboys

Roger Freeman

Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Outlaw Josie Wales, Little Big Man. All the John Ford John Wayne movies are must watch.

Keith Zirwes

El Dorado Open Range The Missing

Bubba Fett

• outlaw josey wales • sons of katy elder • support you're local sherrif

Catchermag

Quick and the dead, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Wild Bunch

Catchermag

How on earth has no one besides me put up The Wild Bunch? It’s brutal, dirty, and Peckinpah. I guess some things get lost with time.

Don Dunco

I would have, but it's literally been over 15 years since I last saw it. Gonna hafta rewatch it now to remember why I liked it then.

Don H.

1. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid 2. Little Big Man 3. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (on Netflix)
