I think you should open him if you really want to. These items are to be enjoyed in the way you want... Don't have to keep him locked up in his prison. A few months ago, I was cleaning out a storage unit I shared with my brother, and we found a box that had random items of his, including one of those Blockbuster coupon books inside of a DVD case. (We're such hoarders!)
