A Christmas Carol (1984) Miracle on 34th Street (1947) Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010) The Unknown Soldier (1955) Now hear me about the last one. It's actually a holiday season classic here in Finland. Reason being it's shown on tv every year on independence day which is 6th December. It's based on a book by Väinö Linna about a machine gun company during The Continuation War. It had the highest budget of a Finnish film at the time. Many of it's stars are actually veterans of the war it's set on. It's a beloved classic. There are three films made on the book, but for most people the original film is the best. The cast has many big stars of the time and one can enjoy the local dialects since the characters are from all over Finland. One of the main actors Reino Tolvanen only acted in two films, but he was phenomenal as Antero Rokka. The director of the film Edvin Laine is well loved and he directed many films based on beloved Finnish books.

re: The Sound of Music. For a very long time, this got played on network tv (in the US, at least) on or near Christmas, so people just got in the habit of rewatching it this time of year. Yes, here in The Netherlands the sound of music is always shown on tv between Xmas and new years. I think also or maybe on new years day the Sissie movies are shown. Not my thing, but it's tradition. Classic b&w USA movies aren't really a thing here. More Xmas from 80s onwards.

THE HOMECOMING (1972).. But it's dated and you had to grow up with the Waltons to truly appreciate it I think.. The original A Christmas Carol (1954) would be my go to after IAWL but nothing will match that one...

My wife said a similar thing maybe last year or the year before. "Christmas" and "has to have Magic." I couldn't find many. • “Magic Stocking” (2015) • “One Magic Christmas” (1985) • “A Magical Christmas Village” (2022) • “A Christmas Movie Christmas” (2019) • “The Christmas Chronicles” (2018) • “The Christmas Chronicles 2” (2020) Only one I haven't seen is "One Magic Christmas" but the previews make it look Magical 😺

Not really a Christmas movie, but they show The Wizard of Oz around Christmas every year. But have you seen Oz, The Great and Powerful? It explains a lot that happened before the Wizard of Oz and I think they did a good job with it. If not for Christmas, then put it on your list for later on. I think you'll enjoy it.

Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) You’re welcome. ☺️

I'm punching myself for not thinking of this years ago, but it occurs to me how many reactors have never seen The Snowman (1982). If you ever prefer to film and edit something that's only 26 minutes long, you might just find it the most moving holiday piece out there anyhow.

Wez

I concur! The Snowman is something of a Christmas tradition over here in the UK and is adored by both children and adults alike. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen it now but it never fails to move me, it's just so charming.
