Whoah! Not only a jammed pack week.....but posting early! Hey, how did it go with all the baseball rules and terminology? (I guess I'll see shortly!). I had a whole baseball crash course prepared for you in case you did "Bad News Bears"! Hopefully this movie taught you everything you needed to know! Psyched to see this, I know this one's a slam dunk! (Tootsie also! I think this week goes down easy, if you catch my drift!)

I'm only 30 minutes into the reaction, Aames, and I've already seen this fantastically entertaining movie many times. So I'm constantly tearing up because I've seen it before. What's your excuse? 😢😢🤣🤣

Yaaaaasssss!! Finally. I know what my evening is going to look like. Can't wait.

I love Lori Petty. Can't wait to watch this. It's been a LONG time.

Absolutely love this movie and I knew you'd love it too Ames. Everyone does such a fantastic job. Full of great characters and lots of fun. One of my favorite Tom Hanks roles. Jimmy Dugan is such a great mentor with great advice like there's no crying in baseball and avoid the clap. Words to live by.

Great reaction, as usual. David Strathairn reminds me that I hope you do a reaction at some point to "Good Night and Good Luck." It was nominated for six Oscars, including Strathairn for best actor and George Clooney for best director. It's a true story about my hero, Edward R. Murrow, and it relates to a lot of what's happening today.

Google AI says no, but I always thought that Dottie dropped the ball on purpose, choosing her sister over her Rockford Peaches teammates. But maybe Dottie was too competitive for that. You weren’t big on that etiquette school – a relic of the time out of place in being imposed on the female athletes. I very much enjoyed your reaction. A movie that makes one feel good. I like the Madonna song “It Used to Be My Playground” (1992) that played during the end credits. I enjoy watching baseball in person in the stadium – can socialize in the stands while watching the game. Penny Marshall (talented) also directed “Big” (1988). I grew up watching Penny Marshall as Laverne in the “Laverne & Shirley” (1976-1983) TV series = a spin-off of “Happy Days” TV series (staring Ron Howard) inspired by American Graffiti (1973) you reacted to. “Thelma & Louise” (1991) (starring Geena Davis) might can win a poll if the competition is not that strong.

OMG I have been watching this movie all my life and I was today years old when I discovered that old Dottie is played by a different actress with Geena's voice over her, you spotted it right away but I've always thought it was Geena Davis made to look older. Shows how good the casting was!!!

David Bennett

Loved your reaction Ames! Such a good movie. If you want more Geena Davis, may I point you in the direction of a spy thriller called The Long Kiss Goodnight, with Samuel L Jackson costarring.....well worth your time.

Bravo Ames, so good this movie is all about the dynamics Men and women, lovers and friends, winning and losing, at home and abroad, professional and family, Self and family. Individual achievement and sacrifice. I would say this is one of the very rare perfect movies, and I do not watch baseball at all, in fact, what is it with baseball movies? Bull Durham, Field of dreams? Still, I just love this movie. It’s perfect in the way that Schindler‘s list is perfect. The only difference being I could watch this all the time. A total home run. I’m glad this won in the polls and my daughter and I had such a great time with this watch along. My daughter did her little victory lap after the movie and said “I love Ames”. Wanna know something really cool? We were a blockbuster family when I was growing up. We always got three videos on a Friday and Pizza and it was just family movie time. It was the greatest. It was almost every weekend. It was one of the many ways our family bonded. Now getting to go back and see all these same movies I grew up on with my daughter in this format on your reaction channel. I don’t know. It’s just really cool to me. Cheers

The game at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown used (in addition to the actors playing older versions of the players) 65 actual players from the AAGPBL. That's why the play is so good for the little old ladies.

Wally Hartshorn

The batter on the Racine Belles team, who you thought looked like Sharon Stone and described as "stunning," was played by Tea Leoni, who appeared in several movies, most notably "Deep Impact", and TV shows, including "The Naked Truth" and "Madam Secretary". (She apparently had also been offered the role of playing Rachel on "Friends," but turned it down. Oops.) She was also married to David Duchovny, star of "The X-Files". And you're right, she is stunning. :-)

I tear up a couple of times during this film as well. Particularly when Marla says goodbye to her dad. “You have to go where things happen.” 😭

Jon Lovitz was a sensation on SNL. He's hilarious! My late wife went to high school with Madonna in Rochester, Michigan. Ohhhh, she hated her bad! And Madonna hate everything and everybody in Rochester. People in Rochester were all glad to see her go. My wife said Madonna had a younger brother that was a real nice guy, though. Oh, that's Don Davis from Stargate SG-1 (the other coach)! You know, down here in the south, the last line of the National Anthem is "Gentlemen, start your engines!" I don't know whether to classify this as a dramedy, or a docudrama. It was a good movie. I got misty once or twice, too. It was very well done. Oh, speaking of women's sports at the end of your video, my wife was addicted to gymnastics and figure skating (growing up in Michigan and skating, I can understand that). For me, I prefer women's beach volleyball. ;) PS: If you haven't seen it, you MUST see Tom Hanks on Black Jeopardy on SNL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7VaXlMvAvk

Loved your reaction to this Ames! This is a great movie and always tears me up a few times too every time I see it. The telegram scene is always brutal. And the reunions. Keep up the good work it keeps me renewing. Like you sports movies! I hope for Hoosiers from the Gene Hackman poll. Thanks again!

Victor

Such a great movie (and Dottie definitely dropped the ball on purpose to give kit something to hang on to)

The cast, story, and performances in this are exceptional. It is wonderful to witness stories of this nature that are not widely recognized.
