Director poll! (Preferably one containing directors who are women and others outside the US/UK umbrella.)

Dryfesands

"Day of The Jackal" (1973). One of the greatest thrillers ever made, and nobody has yet reacted to it.

Henry

“Dr. Dolittle” with Eddie Murphy

Greg In East TN

I'm sticking with Being There starring Peter Sellers.

War….what is it good for?

Alan McCabe

Johnny Dangerously (1984) - gangster parody with Michael Keaton

Alan Jones

Some classic Hitchcock maybe: Dial M for Murder (1954) Rear Window (1954) The Trouble with Harry (1955) The last of these is lesser known, but a fav of mine. Quirky, more lowkey than typical Hitchcock, but appealing so-called "black comedy." Kinda like a screwball rom-com with a dead body plopped down in the middle of it. Shirley MacLaine's film debut. Edmund Gwenn (Kris Kringle in Miracle on 34th Street) is wonderfully jolly again. The first two feature Grace Kelly. Always worth seeing, in more ways than one.

Please God.. Shine thine light upon Ames Patreon subscribers so your devoted film flock may see the wisdom of COMING OF AGE and DIRECTOR categories. Cast a curse upon the WAR category until WARFARE is available on thine DVD Blu-Ray in that we might all partake of it's greatness. Amen..

I would love to introduce more people to our Finnish classic war film The Unknown Solider (1955) bsed on the book by Väinö Linna. It's shown on tv every independence day here in Finland. Sadly it's not available to rent or stream internationally. A few years ago it was released on 4K remastered blu-ray and it looks great.

Daniel Karlsson

Director! Park Chan-wook (JSA, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, The Handmaiden)

Good choices. Glad that war is winning b/c one of my favorite genres. A director poll would be good too. Drama is a broad genre but also one of my favs. Two war movies I would like to see Ames react to are The Pianist (2002) and The Thin Red Line (1998) [Terrence Malick].

PhantomRocker

Cadence from 1990. Starring Charlie Sheen and his dad Martin Sheen.

Great choices!

Murphy

Triplets of Belleville, 2003 (animated.)

Gabriel Urias

THERE WILL BE BLOOD with Daniel Day Lewis

Directors: I probably won't get any '2nd's on this. He's not a major player like Spielberg or Scorsese, and doesn't have a signature style like a Kubrick or Hitchcock...but I like his films, (and I like that he's done a number of music-themed films): Alan Parker. - Midnight Express - Fame - Pink Floyd- The Wall - Angel Heart - Mississippi Burning* - The Commitments* - Evita *2 of my all-time favorites.
