Yup. I’ll get you a list of episodes in later seasons that are now essential because of this one EDIT: NVM….they are already on your list. You’ll get to them and it will be a surprise 😝

Now that was a reaction! Skin of Evil was all over the place in tone but that was how things were during Seasons 1 and 2. Your reaction to Armus was great though lol Denise Crosby left primarily because she was unhappy with the lack of development and screen time for her character. She felt that Tasha Yar was becoming a "token hot blonde", relegated to the background and not given enough interesting storylines. She reportedly felt that the character's role was becoming "Uhura-like" and that she was merely "stage dressing". Some other trivia: When Riker was sucked into Armus, Jonathan Frakes was in fact submerged in a pool of Metamucil and printer's ink. During a break in filming while Frakes was lying on the beach, covered in the sludge, LeVar Burton approached him and said "Frakes, I never would have done that!" In describing TNG Season 1, and Gene Roddenberry's attempts to "push the limits a little," Jonathan Frakes stated, "I think we took greater chances than we do now. The shows may be better, the level of it, but 'Skin of Evil' was absurd. We had Patrick Stewart sitting and talking into a black oil slick - but what was wrong with that? I suffered physically like a fool with Mikey - sure, I'll get in that black fucking Metamucil shit. That was absurd."

Yes yes, who says GOT did it first. Can't wait to see it. It's not the best episode generally speaking, but you had to see it for reasons now sadly known to you.

By the time you get to Season 3, Seasons 1 and 2 will fade from your memory. Things shift for the better with every season, in my opinion.... with the exception of Season 7, which is still better than Seasons 1 and 2. IMO.

To answer your question Ames, the movies take place after the series. There may be a few timelines played with, but the movies came out after the series ended and that’s the important part.

Tasha's death was written to be a meaningless death without purpose. I guess they were upset that she asked to be released from her contract.

Great reaction! I'm following on Paramount+. There a slight delay when it comes back from where the commercial breaks were but it's not bad. Just takes a couple of clicks if even that to sync back up. Seems silly for you to go through all of that when all we have to do is pause for half a second to sync back up. This was always one of my favorite episodes from Season 1 mostly cause of Data's reaction. Data has always been one of my favorite characters. The best scenes with him are when this character who is the farthest one from being human has these moments when human qualities actually show themselves. Same reason Spock was my favorite from TOS. The character that wants nothing to do with his human side has these moments when that side peeks through and they are some of the best moments in Star Trek. Good rule of thumb for TNG is that if the episode is focusing on Data, it's always worth watching.

Great reaction Ames! This was one I was def waiting for! Yeah they basically killed her off because she complained of airtime and role. I watched the show a number of years after the series came out and was, and still am pissed. I thought this was bullshit! I still tear up at the holodeck wake scene. Holy crap! Star Trek is only supposed to kill off “crewman number 5” AKA Guy, IYKYK. LOL One of my favorite movie quotes: Sigourney Weaver “Quick let’s get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!” Anywho I digress. Thanks for doing this series! I get hyped every time you say TNG Tuesday!

"I can only laugh." You couldn't help yourself. The look and voice of the black blob are cheesy. The voice acting for the black blob is hilarious. Reminds me of the voice of a villain in a Saturday morning cartoon. We did get the beautiful message from Tasha at the end. Good to watch S1 episodes. My son who streamed the entire series a couple of years ago said: "Even though I found season 1 to be relatively bad at times, it helped me appreciate how far the series came over time."

Obviously, this episode was required viewing, not just because of the death of a main cast member. But there are unironically a lot of great moments in this too, easily some of my favorites from season 1. I frankly think this is one of Troi's best episodes from the early seasons. And the funeral (as you noted) was genuinely moving. Even in the body of the story, I liked a lot of the character moments: Their stunned reactions when Tasha was pronounced dead. Data being forced to point his phaser at his crewmates. And Troi's interaction with Armus.
