"A Matter of Honor" is an episode that really helps establish TNG-era Klingons. Likewise as vital is "The Emissary" - for other reasons. "Samaritan Snare" is one that you need to see for the groundwork it does with one specific character which IMHO is a major anchor that made Seasons 3 and beyond so much better, but if you only pick one of those, def "The Emissary"

I voted for five, but the only one I feel strongly about is “The Emissary”, which has huge implications for later seasons and for the development of one or more characters. It also has one of my favorite guest actors (who actually appears in four different roles across three different Trek series).

I want to make a pitch for "Pen Pals" and "The Schizoid Man." Neither one seems to be getting a ton of votes, but they both center around a particular actor who is one of my favs on the show.
