HEY YOU GUYS!

Hope everyone's having an awesome summer! It has been so lovely up here in the PNW! Last night had me reminiscing about my youth, getting all nostalgic about how chill and amazing summers used to be! They are still awesome, it's just different, you know!?

Some awesome movies are hitting us this week!! I can't wait to share them with everyone!

TNG Tuesday - Season 3 Episode 1 "Evolution" literally starts off with a BANG!

AFI Friday - #47 A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) A film (and Play) I have always wanted to see/read! More Brando! and young Brando! Stoked!

Saturday - Poll Runner-up Cool Hand Luke (1967) Can't wait for more Paul Newman on the Channel! I used to make a drink as a bartender called the "Cool Hand Luke"; I never knew what that meant, LOL. I will soon find out! Can't wait!

Thanks to those who were able to make my very last-minute LIVE, next time I will give some more notice! Catch the replay if you have time!

Let me know how your summer is going! Love to hear what you are up to! Have you seen any movies in theatres this summer? Go on any fun road trips? Leave it in the comments!

Thanks so much for all your support here! Means a lot to me! I am forever grateful for my crew!

OMG YES!!! A Streetcar Named Desire is so phenomenal! Cool Hand Luke is amazing as well. This is so great!

One thing to try and keep in your mind when you're watching Streetcar is how it must have been to see Brando for the very first time in that role. Some people had seen Brando in Streetcar on Broadway - and the likes of fellow Method actors Montgomery Clift and John Garfield slightly predate him on screen - but general audiences in 1951 had really seen nothing like this performance, in all of its passion, anguish and contradictions. It's one of those pivotal moments that shifted the culture. If you're interested in digging further into this history, I'd highly recommend Isaac Butler's 2022 book The Method: How the Twentieth Century Learned to Act.

The PNW? I assume you are in B. C. Seattle would love to have you visit! Also, hope you can stop by Hope. Although I wouldn't ask the Sherrif for any local Diner recommendations 😉

Oh, looking forward to Cool Hand Luke! As for the summer... I keep meaning to get back to Ireland, but haven't got round to it yet. By the time I do get there it'll be cold and wet. I have never seen a movie set in Ireland that accurately captured what Irish weather is like.

What do we need to do to get Ames to finally watch her favorite movie... Black Dynamite?? Michael Jai White is going to be so sad it's gone unwatched. 😜

Hello! Good to see you focusing on older movies/shows! Mostly looking forward to Cool Hand Luke. I’ll watch it when I get discharged from here. Still hoping you can do Sex, Lies, and Videotape sooner rather than later. Take care!

I forgot that you were also up here in the PNW! I've been up in this way pretty much my entire life aside from a year in Idaho and like a week out in Asia. xD lol, I love it up this way. :)

Nobody better than Brando in his prime or better looking. Made this role his own on Broadway and was the obvious choice for the film when Kazan cast him. Streetcar really put him on the map. It's always nice to watch actors like Brando before they soured on Hollywood and the profession. The same can be said for Newman who was born to play this role. It can be debated which is his greatest ( I know Ames is currently sold on Fast Eddie Felson) some might say HUD and other will say BUTCH. But Stuart Rosenberg ( who would later go on to direct one of my favorites THE POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE) did such an amazing job here casting the right actors in all the supporting roles in this film. Hopper, Martin, Kennedy, Stanton... They're all there. LUKE is the definition of the kind of movie Hollywood just doesn't make anymore and it's never been so needed. It's IMPOSSIBLE not to fall in love with Paul Newman here who makes it look so effortless and has 1 scene in particular that I consider one of cinema's GREATEST acting performances. Curious to find out if Ames still considers Fast Eddie as her favorite Newman role after this reaction. All around? A GREAT week of Cinema ahead ❤️

Try Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima films. Two great companion movies that tell the story of the same battle but from each side of the war.
