First time subscriber! Found you on a best reaction to movies video and thought you were just great! Love your reactions and you seem like a very cool person! If I may suggest another king kong movie you should check out the 1970s King Kong vs Godzilla! That's a really good monster brawl movie I think you would really enjoy!

When home video was still very new—circa 1980—I was graduating from college and asked for an RCA CED disc player for my graduation gift. It played movies on LP-size discs with a stylus, like a record. (At the time, a videocassette player would have cost more than $1,000. And graphically superior laserdisc players were also out of my parents' price range.) When I got the CED player, "King Kong" was among the first three films I bought. I've owned it in every available format ever since. I can't describe how it felt to own a movie back then and be able to watch it whenever you wanted, in the comfort of your own home, without commercials and in high quality. When CED discs cost $19-34 dollars each and VHS movies were typically in the $60-80 range, owning even a small handful of movies felt amazing.

This reaction ROCKS. Oh my god. Every line, every scene! They should put this on DVD. Epic, hilarious.......classic! Perfect start for October. I don't think it's just you, I find this the most emotionally engaging Kong, totally! He's the most sympathetic horror character since we saw Carrie! The artistry of his facial expressions, the score and the sound effects: chef's kiss. And you are totally right: Fay Wray is the original scream queen! As damsels in distress go.....she's the best, I think! Also what I loved about this reaction: the whole first 40 minutes! So much fun! When I was a little kid, it seemed to take FOREVER to get through those 40 minutes, ha! All that great old timey dialog......when I want to imitate old movie acting, I always do stuff from this movie. "Saaaay, what's the big idea?!!!" LOL. Anyways.....this reaction was as epic as the movie! You had me laughing so many times....I wish I wrote it all down!

One of the first sound films with a background music score. Many of the scenes were cut on later viewings... Kong tearing off Ann's dress, sniffing his fingers, people in Kong's mouth or being stepped on. I remember (my college days) when they first restored these scenes and it was in revival theaters. Released in 1933, airplanes were less than 30 years from Kitty Hawk, the Empire State Building was built in 1931 & '32... barely a year old! Many books, films have been made about Willis O'Brien's creatures -- the fur, the various heads, hands and arms, the full bodied Kong... amazing work! Fay Wray is the prototype and definitive scream queen; few others since have matched her believability... or beauty.

I haven't seen this film in a very long time, and it was actually better than I remember. The quality control in its production was downright heroic! You really do feel a sense of terror and also sadness for a stop-motion animated figure. The beautiful Fay Wray lived to the age of 96 and received a tribute at the 1998 Oscars https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aV49ciIb25k She had one of the most disturbing screams I've ever heard! Thanks for reaction to this one! I'm glad you liked it.

Classic that still holds up.

Oh my god. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie. Blown away. If you like Godzilla Minus One or the modern monster stuff you will LOVE this. It's hard to even put into words how awesome it is. EPIC movie. Can't imagine walking into a theater in 1933 and seeing this.

"Women just can't help being a bother." “It was beauty that killed the beast.” Agree that this must have wowed audiences in the theater in 1931. I am glad the movie is pre-code. Some of the suggestive dress and revealing of skin (and the kiss) may not have survived the code? You got a few chuckles out of the ‘gore’ – all the killing things and people falling to their doom as you said. I did too. The effects (stop-motion animation) were apparently groundbreaking at the time. Further, "the 1933 King Kong has a critically acclaimed and influential score by Max Steiner, considered by many to be the first great modern film score."

Mark O'Phaeley

Also, one of the very first movie score. Before 1931 I'm not sure if there were any films with a soundtrack other than during the silent era when it WAS just music.

Mark O'Phaeley

I am so happy to see you are following the AFI top 100. imbd is rather biased toward modern film and as such they really aren't very objective about film. This film isn't only noteworthy for its special effects but also that it is one of the first movies to use a soundtrack. If you look at the 1931 Dracula for instance it is very silent throughout.
