Star Trek: TNG S3xE13

Greg In East TN

I met John de Lancie and had a nice talk at a Trek convention in Chattanooga many years ago. He is such a nice, funny guy. I wish I could post a picture. The second Q in the shuttle reminded me of Beetle Juice. I mean his mannerisms and the way he talked. If you want to see a whole series that is a lot of this episode (light hearted), you gotta watch Stargate SG-1 with Richard Dean Anderson. It was filmed in Vancouver ya know, eh? But they poke fun at Star Trek and other movies and shows all the time. Even the Wizard of Oz. LOL If you haven't seen it, you really should put it on your list to react to! Be well, Greg

Great episode and reaction. Q was a GIFT to this series. A character who was able to point out humanities weaknesses and strengths through (basically) a gods eye. And he isn’t a member of an opposing species, which is important. Anyway, there are about six episodes in the rest of this season that are PEAK TNG.

The uncredited actor who played the second Q is Corbin Bernsen, easily recognized by viewers in 1990 as the star of popular TV drama, L.A. Law.

This one might literally be my favorite Q episode ever. My favorite line might be at the end when he tells Riker, "You weren't like that before the beard." It's almost nearly like a fourth-wall break. Unrelated: I'm looking ahead at upcoming episodes and I worry about the possibility of your streaming service spoiling key moments in just the little description screen, either with the text or pictures. This might sound silly, but is there any way to maybe shield the screen with your hand to protect your eyes while clicking on the start button?

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

That shot of Q doing the circular walk around the inside of the lift before coming face to face with Worf to deliver the punchline, good shit 👍

"You have achieved in disgrace what I have aspired to be." "If it means anything to you, you are a better human than I." Q episodes = good dialogue and good John D Lancie acting. I like this episode b/c shows Q has vulnerability (at least a little). Q is entertaining. Yet, Q apparently can completely destroy Enterprise and kill entire crew w/snap of his fingers - and no one is certain of his whims, considerations, or motivations. As you alluded, Picard (or anyone w/sense) surely doesn't like to gamble w/that.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

The beard joke, the "tired cliche" joke about saving folks at the last second, the "beam you up, back, whatever" joke...This one is a little meta isn't it lol Love it

What can I do to prove that I am human? Die! Such a great episode. John de Lancie's delivery of his lines is impeccable.

I've heard people say that Q was actually helping the Federation by introducing them to the Borg and giving them some warning about what's out there. It's sort of a fan theory that's been floating around, so it's kind of funny you also came up with it on your own.

I love "Deja Q." It's a great episode that I've seen numerous times. John de Lancie is great, Corbin Bernsen is great in such a small role, the interactions between Q and Guinan and between Q and Data are priceless. But Ames, you are right on the cusp! TNG is about to go from good to truly amazing. And I cannot wait.
