Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Dude playing Fajo was so good. As a villain he is just straight up unnerving. We have been on a real run of banger guest stars lately.

Knew this would piss you off. 😀

Double dose of TNG? Double dose of TNG!

Okay, so I love this episode. I think the villain's actor was fantastic, and I also love how much of the episode was dedicated towards the crew eulogizing Data. The ending also took the whole thing up to another level. The piercing stare by Brent Spiner when he says, "I am only an android." For a supposedly "emotionless" character, Spiner really does add a ton of nuance. Sometimes it's deadpan comedy, other times it's love and compassion, and sometimes it's veiled rage. (Nitpick: I know it's not the point of the episode, but I do feel like Data had more options to escape from that room besides forcing the door or directly touching Fajo. Like he could've tried smashing through a wall. Or threatened to destroy all the other priceless artifacts. Or waited by the door to rush out as soon as the lady assistant entered. Or thrown the chair at Fajo's head. ... But I'm willing to suspend that disbelief to enjoy the emotional beats of the plot.)

Really interesting episode, and great acting for the character Fajo as the collector. And Brent Spiner, as always, super Data episode! But, I have a couple of nit picks. Data did 2 things I wouldn't think see him do, ever: He DID shoot the disruptor at Fajo, and he DID lie to Riker as for what happened for the disruptor having been discharged. I can understand that he could come to the logical conclusion that for the horrible cycle of captivity and danger to others to end, he had to shoot the disruptor. But then, with that same logic, he HAS to explain his action formally, not lie about it in the transporter room.

The end of the episode is fascinating. The stuff with the phaser discharge. The comments by Data. Your hair is different. Looks good.

Also, I know that editing is probably a major time-sink. So if it's not possible to put edited versions of your TNG reaction on your public Youtube account, I still recommend you post maybe a little montage or something of your TNG reactions. Just as a sort of promotion. I think a lot of people would be drawn to your Patreon if they knew you were reacting to Star Trek.

Saul Rubenik, a character actor I remember most as the writer in Unforgiven, is great as Fajo. Just love to hate him!

I knew Ames would go ape shit over what was done to Data and she didn't disappoint. The ending is the most interesting part. He calculated the moral math and came to the conclusion that firing the weapon was justified. I can see how he might arrive at that decision even if it may still not be judged the same by Starfleet. I just don't understand why he would lie about it. He wouldn't suddenly lie for his own benefit. In fact, he would just report the facts in his report and certainly undergo any questioning. I think the writers wanted to do something, but it just didn't make sense. Another act with Data and co dealing with the repercussion of his decision would have been very interesting, but alas, they had to wrap it up and sadly chose a non nonsensical way to do it in lieu of constrained time and perhaps trying to have jaw drop moment.

Idea after watching this is when you get to to the TNG films you should watch them with Cinebinge. I know it could be hard to make work but could be really fun to watch you react together with George and simone.
