Happy Saturday!

My first film from this studio, and there were so many things to understand and uncover about this bizarre, fun, and magical story! I loved the beautiful art style mixed with the anime! I still am not entirely sure about how this film lands on me because I think I need a few more watches, plus maybe how I interpreted it could be different from another watch, or many more. I still think it was incredibly imaginative and creative. I loved seeing a different perspective mixed with emotion and culture.

Let me know your thoughts below!

Studio Ghibli do the world a service by delivering gorgeous fables unknown to the western world. Howls Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Ponyo (ALL hand drawn), My Neighbor Totoro, and this one are all works of art. Hayao Miyazaki is revered in Japan and an absolute genius. Oh, and Kiki’s Delivery Service. Astounding stuff.

This movie, Howl's Moving Castle, and My Neighbor Totoro are probably the Ghibli movies most accessible to Western audiences. I only tried Howl's Moving Castle because I really liked the book, and I was quickly hooked on Miyazaki's style. It doesn't hurt that they did a great job casting actors for the English versions.

This was the first anime I had bought on dvd around 20 years ago. I pulled it out and used it for the watchalong. Incredibly beautiful movie.

*tears start to swell-up* this is such a emotional and lovely story. I just love her adventure. The ART is so beautiful. And that scene it her alone while her parents eat is an incredible looking scene. Then the bathhouse. Sorry for any mistypes. I LOVE that city across the water. :) Alright. I could go on for the whole movie but I know people don't wanna read that. LOL Love you all and God bless. <3 Enjoy the watch along!!!! P.S. such a glorious and lovely adventure.

I love this movie and we've named our dogs after Studio Ghibli characters. Our Chihuahua is named Chihiro and we have two others which are Sophie and Tombo. All four of us love these movies but they are a happy place for my daughter and I. She's 30 this year but she's my little girl again when we watch together.
