Anyone want to take guesses/bets? Brief Encounter? An Affair To Remember? Blue Velvet? :P

Teemu Laitinen

Well it's clearly my pick then of Downfall (2004). Can you get any more romantic than that?

Suspense built!

The DIVORCE BOAT!!!?? That's HYSTERICAL because it's so true... Only added this film to the WOW list because I know how much you would probably like it. What a great swan song for 2 Hollywood legends huh? I have fond memories of seeing this in the theatre with my parents and how much all of us were moved by it. Sadly Henry died shortly after it's release and was actually bedridden when his daughter Jane accepted the Oscar on his behalf. A great study about getting old and facing our own mortality and righting past wrongs. The entire cast was wonderful. I cant watch this now without thinking this would have been the PERFECT vehicle for Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward's last roles together. That said? God Bless Jane Fonda for buying the rights and getting this produced as she immediately saw her father in the lead role. Remarkably? This was this first time Henry and Katherine ever worked together. You were close.. Filmed on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire! Glad you finally saw this sweet gem of a film. Now I can go back to nominating obscure films that will never get chosen!

Congrats RFK. I remember this movie heavily publicized when released. You can add this to your Cinema Paradiso win 2 years ago. You've contributed two dang good movies.

Congrats! Looking forward to revisiting!

Thank you for this gift, one of my favorite films of all time, I've requested it on the wheel from time to time, and it's one of my choices for the free for all poll that's open now. So if it's permitted, I'll edit my comment to pick something else in its place. At 76, I'm almost Norman's age, and this film hits home for me in a way that younger folks may not have thought about...yet. I suppose there are all kinds of attitudes about the final stretch of living, but I've faced down death in my own mind, and I've decided..."Okay." I've had a good run, There's not much for me to hang around for. No family. No job. Friends aplenty, but lukewarm somehow, and I think that's more my fault than theirs. At my current rate of decline, I don't think I'll make it to Norman's fourscore years, and that's okay,, I'm not rushing it, but I'm not trying to extend it either. Whenever the arc settles to earth, I'll be content. Hope this wasn't too heavy for this channel. And I hope you all have as long and happy lives as you are able. Meantimes, I'm enjoying the end of the ride, particularly movie reactions as rich and thoughtful as this one. You're a treasure, Ames!

Thank you RFK for nominating this film. You and I are around the same age, I personally was only 12 when this came out. But I distinctly remember its release and definitely either saw it in the theater or later in my teens. Back then, younger audiences weren’t as averse to dramatic films. I definitely saw this, Kramer Vs Kramer (1979), Terms of Endearment, Color Purple, Mask, An Officer and a Gentleman, Big Chill, Silkwood…..melodramas for the most part….before I was 20. We just weren’t averse to adulthood I guess. Times change. But these films exist for younger generations to discover. The scene that hits different now that I’m older is when Norman gets lost in the woods. Such a frightening scenario for him. Anyway, solid pick. It’s a simple film, but a warm one that makes me smile a lot.

A request for years on the wheel got my hopes up, ... but congrats RFK! First, "Days of Heaven" and now this! Time to buy a lottery ticket? This is a gem of a film and it will be great to see it again along with Ames' reaction. Kinda remarkable that Henry and Katherine never worked together before this. With some of the boating scenes filmed on Lake Winnipesaukee, we may have to watch "What About Bob?" (1991) next! 😂

As a professional in-home caregiver, this movie hits very close to home. These two were exactly like 90% of the clients I have worked with. God bless them. What an amazing movie. It's was my first time seeing it. I'm glad I gave it a shot. Great watch along also! Makes it so much fun to watch with.

Very warm and touching film. Kate's still got it! She made me teary-eyed several times. And Hank Fonda can still summon up the intensity in his steel-blue eyes when necessary. The Oscar was Kate's fourth and Hank's first; I'm glad he was able to win at least one competitive Oscar before he died. (He had received an honorary one a year earlier.) He was too ill to attend the ceremony so Jane accepted on his behalf, and he died a few months later. (Hepburn also skipped the ceremony to appear on Broadway; she never attended for any of her four wins.) Jimmy Stewart and Bette Davis made a similar film -- a first-time pairing of Old Hollywood legends dealing with the challenges of old age -- in 1983, an HBO movie called "Right of Way." It's not bad and makes a good companion piece to "On Golden Pond." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nh80GW2dsVw

I liked it. Thanks RFK Fan.

What a great rewatch & trip down memory lane… Norman & Ethyl = relationship goals for me! I remember seeing this when I was very young & absolutely loving everything about this. I seem to remember that there were some true to life difficulties between Henry & Jane in real life, very similar to the strained father daughter relationship portrayed in this story, going back to Jane’s activism against the Vietnam war, & Henry’s disapproval of her doing so… And I’m with you, in that I need to love my peeps while I’m still here to do so & they’re still here to be loved… Oh and Hi Ms. A. So happy to be here & love what you do. ❤️🥹
