Holy Mother of #$%$ pearls, Batman! I loved this movie! I am not sorry for this effusive intro to my post, but holy heck, what an amazing piece of filmmaking. I wish someone had made me watch this earlier! It is just right up my alley in terms of all the types of things I love in film, and also the deep introspection that it provides and the way you can analyze this film and interpret it in your own way.

I will leave everything for my outro, as you want this video ASAP.

Here it is!

As always, enjoy and drop everything in the comments below! Can't wait to chat!

Oh my god, I've got one thing and one thing on my mind only: the audition scene!!!! I remember seeing that in the theatre, and thinking, holy s**t, this actress, who IS this actress? I just figured she was going to win Best Actress that year, just for that one scene! (Turned out she didn't even get nominated!!! What the.....?!). Can't wait! See you on the other side!!!

Total agreement Ames. What really impressed me when I left the theatre? Was the outstanding performances by the two leads. First time I ever saw Naomi Watts act and was blown away. Arguably Lynch’s best film..

Watch this movie years ago when it came out. It was beyond my understanding at the time. It frustrated me, but I loved it anyway. Watching it again as an adult let me understand why I loved it so much, great movie

Totally Noir , and Bound deserves some credit for breaking some ground before Mulholland Drive. Definitely a great double feature. Naomi Watts is amazing in this.

Woohoo! Excited to watch your reaction! I will comment one more time if you do good. I will comment two more times if you do bad 🤠

Great reaction! One of my favorite films from my favorite director. Always love hearing people’s interpretations and theories on this one. Next has gotta be Eraserhead or Blue Velvet!

Ok, that was fun. That was surely the 20+ time I’ve watch Mulholland Drive since it was released 25 years ago, and I always pick up something new every time I watch it. It’s David Lynch at his absolute best, in my opinion. NOBODY could create a sense of suspense, dread, and uneasiness on film like Lynch does. And, a lot of times, you’re not entirely sure why you’re uneasy or uncomfortable watching these fucked up scenes unfold. He was a master at it! And, hearing your insight to the audition scene was fascinating to me, being that that’s the world you’re working in. That rehearsal scene that Betty did with Rita, leading up to the actual audition that Betty did in the producers office, made Naomi Watts a fucking rockstar! She blew everyone away at the time, and my movie buff friends & I have adored her in everything she’s done since. Now that you’ve gone down this rabbit hole, Blue Velvet is next. Followed by Lost Highway. Followed by the entire Twin Peaks universe. I heard you mention you’ve done Wild At Heart on the channel, and I’m off to track that one down now. ALL are classic David Lynch, and ALL are mandatory viewing, if you’re dug Mulholland Drive. Silencio!!!

Great reaction and insight, especially after only your first watch. Perceptive. I guess your audition experience, understanding of the industry, and feel for movies helped. I would like to see the movie in the theater on the big screen. Theroux said that Lynch “doesn’t answer your questions” on set, and that working w/him is like being “on an escalator into a cloud… you never know where the escalator lets off.” Agree that Naomi Watts is awesome in this. I also liked her in 21 Grams (2003) and The Painted Veil (2006).

So....Hold Down A does Twin Peaks eventually? (I have the Black Lodge hanging on my wall at this moment, can't help to ask).

I have this movie at home 🎥❤️!

Wow! My favorite movie. I love so many but this is a staggering artistic achievement if you ask me. Watched it first when it came out, many, many times since, and there are still things I wonder about or can't put my finger on any time I see it or think about it. Fun fact: this was originally intended to be a TV series and the first two hours of footage were shot for a pilot episode. When it wasn't picked up, he shot the rest of the scenes to try to turn it into a feature and it ended up being one of the best movies ever made. Thanks for this and for all of your other reactions!
