For the record. I’ve heard you refer to a Volkswagen Beatle as a “Punch Buggy” on numerous occasions here. This is ERRONOUS!!! These are, in fact, a Slug Bug!!! Get it right, Mrs. Ames!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 😎

That was a terrific rewatch. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this. That confrontation scene in the nudie booth at the end is so heartbreaking. I found it fascinating that, at the start of the scene, Travis is giving his monologue, detailing his backstory, with his back to Jane the entire time. Vice versa, once Jane starts her monologue during the 2nd half of the scene, she does so with her back to Travis. It’s like they’re both too ashamed to even face one another, in the terrible decisions they’ve both made along the way. That was such an amazing scene to watch again! ❤️ I’m not overly familiar with Wim Wenders, but another movie of his that’s definitely worth tracking down is the Criterian version of Until the End of the World (1991). It’s a LOOONG one at 287 minutes, so you’ll have to block off half a day to view, but definitely worth a watch, if you dug the slow pace style of Paris, Texas.

So stoked to watch the reaction. This is one of my all time favorite movies. I remember the first time I watched this I audibly gasped during the peep show scene when Travis’s face reflected on to Jane’s face. That shot was so poetic and sad it literally took my breath away! Thanks for reacting to this!

I'm very glad to finally see this film. It's fantastic, and curious to see how many Oscars it won, I came to find out that it didn't secure a single nomination (yet another example of the dubious nature of the Academy Awards). The fugue state that Travis wandered in aimlessly is both sad and fascinating. His gradual "awakening" during this film is brilliantly portrayed by Harry Dean Stanton. He really was an exceptional actor. I remember Nastassja Kinski from back in the 80s as an exquisitely beautiful young woman who was a model and actress but had not seen much of her work. I was really impressed with her performance in this film. I also have to praise the acting of Hunter Carson as soon to be eight year old Hunter in the movie. I was also scared that his Mom wasn't going to show up in the end. Their reunion was very moving. Great reaction Ames! I wish they made more films like this nowadays. I had deep empathy for the characters and really cared about what happened to them.

And the wheel deals us another Sam Shepherd! Natasja Kinski's father was the German actor Klaus Kinski.......and he's in "For A Few Dollars More"! :D A real privlege to see your first time reaction to one of Harry Dean Stanton's greatest performances! ("Repo Man", which I sometimes request, is the other!). But man oh man, it's probably hard to tell just from this performance......but Dean Stockwell as the brother was so good. Wait till you see him in Blue Velvet! Or a million other movies. He's always different, and I was marveling at how "plain" he was playing this character. His physicality and his voice changes with every part, definitely in the 80s and 90s. Your feeling for the characters and the situations, not to mention for the performances and the camerawork, made this is a special reaction. You even immediately mentioned the music by Ry Cooder, which is one of the things it was immediately known for. (Lots of people had this soundtrack......especially young actors! :D)

A unique capture of a story. I liked when Travis said his bit in the booth, and then Jane gave her reply. One of my favorite scenes was Hunter hugging Jane in the hotel room – those two embracing. I’ve traveled those roads much in downtown Houston, e.g., including the route Travis and Hunter were chasing the red car. I enjoyed the movie and your reaction. Congrats to TheBrandonator69.

I just finished this and I'm so glad Ames's fans got me to watch it. It got me close to tears like Ames, holy shit. Real simple and straightforward, beautiful. Very Texan. My wife and I gave up our child to adoption (we are still in contact with him) from when we were teens and I really want her to see it. But, boy, I better prepare her for it. HIts home and just so well done.
