Star Trek:TNG S4xe22 "Half a Life"

You're not alone. There is nothing about the Lwaxana character I like. Episodes featuring her are usually a hard skip for me. I watched this one, cos I just felt like watching TNG with you, but yeah no. The actress, Majel Barret is of course Star Trek royalty. She was married to Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, played Nurse Chapel in TOS and of course features in just about every TNG episode as the computer's voice. Respect for that, but doesn't change my stance on the Lwaxana character one bit.

50:22 Teleport room? Come on now Ames, get your lingo together. You know better than that. Blame it on the hay I guess.

I’m nervous about watching this. I LOVE Lwaxana as a character. I don’t know if you don’t like this episode, which is fine, or her…..which makes me crestfallen

I absolutely get that Lwaxanna is... polarizing. Personally, I adore her. There's always something something about characters that are outwardly very gruff/loud/boisterous, whatever on the outside but big softies on the inside that always appeal to me. It's why I remain a big Pulaski stan as well, despite the bulk of the fanbase feeling the opposite. "Even if I find the answer you will not accept it!" "I am not being foolish!" Respect to our guest star, buddy honestly earned those moments within the confines of a one-off guest star role inside of 30-45 minutes. Great stuff. Honestly I can't watch this one without tearing up during one of its wonderful scenes. Of course their are objectively better episodes, whatever that means, but this will always remain one of my favourites. Heavy focus on my girls Deanna and Lwaxanna, humour, heartbreak, a big socially relevant Star Trek-y question being dealt with...I like it.

Little bummed that you didn't like this episode. Lwaxana can be one of the most annoying characters in TNG. I might be in the minority but between the writing and David Ogden Stiers performance this has always been one of my favorite episodes.

All betazoids have large brown eyes. Also, Lwaxana is played by the same actor as previously. I am also allergic to hay. Makes having guinea pigs a sneezy venture some days.

I like this episode a lot but I like even more that you are honest about your opinion. Nothing worse than placating to an audience.

There are TNG fans who despise Lwaxana and are vocal about it. She can be annoying. You eased up on her toward the end. S1 Lwaxana episode and S2 Lwaxana were not the greatest. S3 Lwaxana episode was ok (Picard reciting Shakespeare was great). This S4 episode is my favorite Lwaxana episode so far. I thought David Ogden Stiers did well. To me, he will always be Major Charles Emerson Winchester III of the MASH TV series. "Resolution" would not be my word choice for the cultural (societal) ritual of people of good health and sound mind killing themselves merely because they turn age 60, especially if they are not a burden and have the resources to pay for being a burden if becoming a burden.

Sorry about the hay-fever, it's a miserable condition. I used to get it, then I got older and it eased a bit. Then I got a liver transplant with immunosuppression and yippee, no more hay-fever!! A bit extreme maybe! Anyhoo, I'm not a fan of Lwaxanna, they accommodate her eccentricity too easily, but it, for me, feels like she's shoe horned in! Onward and upward!!
