Hey Friends!!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Summer! The weather here has been spectacular, vibes are high as we hosted our last World Cup Game in town and honestly it’s been a blast! My teams are out, so now zero stress and I just get to enjoy soccer! Who are you rooting for??

If you didn’t know I am a massive Canucks girly and I listen to about 10k hours of sports talk a year. I text in, I listen to all the post game shows live on the radio! I listen to a ton of games on the radio aswell! It’s nostalgic and I love amazing commentators! Well, Rogers Media just canceled it ALL! Took everyone off air today. I was so confused this morning driving to work just hearing dead air fuzz. Didn’t find out til after work I was so busy. I am gutted! I hope all my fave shows are able to navigate this incredible loss and find a space somewhere. I understand things are shifting in the digital world, this is just so sad. I wish them all the best.

I will be getting genre polls going asap and my plan is to then poll from the top 3 winners so we can get some diversity up on the channel in the next couple of weeks!

This week I wanted to bring something a lil different, a Canadian hidden gem I’ve been eager to check out and a War movie that has been on my list forever! Which I’ve heard soo many mixed things about yet know very little! But, with Nolan’s new movie coming out next week I wanted to bring this movie into this mix - thought it was great timing!

TNG TUESDAY - S4xE24 “The Mind’s Eye” Banger episode WOW!

FRIDAY - Nirvana the Show the Band the Movie (2025) there is so much shit I don’t even know about these guys but apparently you don’t have to know anything cause it’s a blast! There has been so much talk about this film and I wanted to represent Canada here on my channel. I hope you give this comedy a chance!!

Saturday - Troy (2004) I’m stoked to watch this and see what it’s all about! Brad Pitt! Low ratings, been ripped and hated on but apparently ppl love this movie? We’ll see! Can’t wait!

That sucks! I know there's not a lot of money in radio, but a lot of people still listen to it. Also sucks that one company owns everything in this country. Almost a total monopoly. Good job, CRTC.

I was just reading about this movie/show! Psyched to check it out! Did you see it already? Should I watch some of the show first, or just go into the movie blind? ///. But on the other hand, that SUCKS about the radio station. Damn. In broadcasting, especially radio, that's the way It often happens, they just rip the band-aid off everybody. Sorry to hear that.

Bummer about your local sports radio silence. Local sports talk radio is my commute background noise as I traverse the big bad streets of Houston to & from work. It helps to keep me sane amongst the sea of shitty drivers here! The 1st time I ever travelled anywhere outside of Texas was back in ‘96, when I flew up to BC to visit friends. Picked up my 1st ever hockey jersey there (#89 Mogilny, back when the Canucks were still sporting the Halloween looking black, yellow & red jerseys! I still have that jersey!) I’m so glad your team changed that color scheme. Those old Canucks jerseys were pretty ugly!! 🤣 I have owned a copy of Troy on dvd for 20+ years now. I’ve tried to watch a couple of times along the way, but never managed to make it through. But, this weekend is the weekend. When I finally make a connection with this old Brad Pitt ‘I’m a better looking dude than you will EVER be’ vehicle! Informal impromptu poll for you & your crew here. Hotter Brad Pitt? Cool week. I've heard the Nirvana movie is awesome and Troy will be really fun.

I wrote a very long post a few years ago, discussing what I loved and hated about "Troy" -- as a writer, as someone who's read the Iliad and is familiar with the associated myths, as an actor, as a literary scholar, etc. There were both lots of things I loved and lots of things I hated. I don't want to spoil anything for you now, but after you post the reaction, I'll give you a link (or maybe I'll just paste it into the comments!). I won't be able to watch on Saturday because I'll be working on three (!) panels at Readercon that day, but I'll watch it as soon as I'm free.
