Watching this and MOTA at the same time, it's odd they occurred together. This episode coincides with Replacements from BoB more or less and both about a year after masters of the air started. 3 vastly different experiences with their own very unique flavors of suck...

the opening of the ship with them driving into the water to hit peleliu is such a masterfully shot scene, my favorite scene of the whole series. and the japanese tanks were most likely Type 95 Ha-Go tanks. very lightly armored, stood no chance against US tanks or bazookas. 28 japanese tanks attacked the marines across the airfield that mid-morning to afternoon, all of them destroyed.

An intense episode. Agree about Eugene. Didn't know what to think about Eugene in the US, but he seems now to have strength. I like BoB better than The Pacific, but for me there are The Pacific episodes/moments that rank up there with BoB for sure.
