All quiet on the western front…

The Hound

You have to see Christian Bale at age 13. I don’t think anyone has reacted to TAPS with a 19 year old Tom Cruise either

Stephen Knueppel

A few good men isn't a war movie it's a courtroom drama with a military setting.

Chris B

Platoon is one of thee greatest war movies of all time. Charlie Sheen deserved best actor for that

Carl Lyngholm

Still torn as to what to vote for, but the anal aspect of my personality feels the need to point out that "A Few Good Men" isn't actually a "War Movie". It's a Courtroom Drama in a military setting. It's a great movie, but if the goal is to watch a war film, maybe look elsewhere.

Retro Maven

Nothing from the 1940s-1960s, I'm crestfallen....what would John Wayne think...

JM63

I like the war poll idea, will yield a nice balance

Florin Ispas

Yeees!!full metaal jackkeet!!

Alan Kobb

A few Good Men is a really good movie, but if you want the truth, it's not in any way a "war movie" unless you count a courtroom battle as war, and if you don't belive me, then you can't handle truth!

RFK Fan

Tough category! A lot of great choices here but few films not only show you the ENEMIES viewpoint but even fewer show it with as much claustrophobic intensity as DAS BOOT… as powerful today as it was in 1981. It won’t win the poll but won me over decades ago….shame GALLAPOLI didn’t make it..

Everyone, I think it's pretty clear she means "military-related movie", nor war film per se, and she's just trying to maintain a balance among different genres/subjects. Seems reasonable to me.

Oh my freaking gosh.....are you the coolest or what? You put the 1930 All Quiet On The Western Front on there, I'm blown away. I don't expect it to win but I'm blown away by its inclusion with the recent one, that is too hip for words! It has the distinction of being the first truly great film in sound that holds up to this day. Over the pandemic, I watched a million movies from the 1928-1930 period (the transition from silent to sound), and "All Quiet" is head and shoulders over all of the sound movies up till that time. I think it came out it January of 1930. Sound films before then are virtually all unwatchable other than as historical curiosities, not as entertainment. Blown away!

Gary Trousdale

Again…too many great choices to only settle on one! I’m kind of sorry 1917 didn’t make the cut, but at this rate it would only have confused things more!

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

FYI, "The Bounty" isn't a war movie either. It's about a mutiny aboard a British naval vessel, however, there is no combat. It is an excellent version of "Mutiny on the Bounty" which was done twice before. In this version you'll see Mel Gibson as Fletcher Christian and Anthony Hopkins as Captain Bligh as well as a young Liam Neeson and a very young Dexter Fletcher who played Sergeant John Martin in "Band of Brothers". I highly endorse this movie but it doesn't look like it has a snowball's chance in hell of winning the poll.

The 1930 All Quiet is amazing. I watched it recently and was blown away by how fresh it still felt.

Attention. Attention, to all those who say "A Few Good Men" isn't a war film. I absolutely disagree. True, there is no battle, but the essence and structure of all military since the Ancient Egyptians is there. I don't want to drop "spoilers" but it's all about orders. And what is right and what is moral. I could go on and on, but won't here.

Thomas Wetherell

These are all good choices, but I’d really like to see Kingdom of Heaven win. It’s a really underrated movie and doesn’t get reacted to that much, if at all.

Clay F

My top 3 in order: Platoon (1986) Empire of the Sun (1987) Full Metal Jacket (1987) My next 3 preferred in order: Kingdom of Heaven (2005) [director's cut] All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) A Few Good Men (1992)

Andy Bodkin

I follow a lot of reaction channels, and these polls are always the same. The same movies get voted for over and over and over. Sorry I just cant watch full metal jacket or a few good men again. I hope Ames picks something else, something that hasn't been done on every reaction channel already.
