The Patriot broke my heart

Early Access!!! It’s like winning a shoe all over again Thanks ❤️🫡☺️

I watched this when it first came to theaters and I have to say I didn't really care for it. It's miss titled in my opinion because the main character doesn't fight because he believes in separation from England. He fights because he is pissed at what happened to his family, so it's not about patriotism at all. It should be called The Revenge or something similar. Also he has used this revenge idea in other sort of historic movies and it just felt overused by the time I saw this.

Mel Gibson: How about Braveheart 2? Studio: William Wallace is dead, Mel. Mel Gibson: Like….DEAD dead? What if we just called him by a different name and moved to a different country? Studio: It writes itself, Mel! How much money you need?

Ames' reaction was a first time watch for me. I didn't go in with high hopes, but I thought it was good for what it was (an action blockbuster set in the 1700s). There aren't many great movies about the American Revolution. Al Pacino's Revolution (1985) was one of the critics' most hated movies of the 80s, but I think it's a lot better than its reputation. Drums Along the Mohawk (1939, shot in beautiful Technicolor) with Henry Fonda might be the best.

I’m so glad I joined your Patreon. This early access feature is awesome always provides me entertainment! I’ve been meaning to watch this movie for years, so this was a first for me and this movie was even better than I imagined, as always love your reactions! 🍿🥤

Hi Ames. I see you used a more sophisticated post production technique when you cut this reaction video together. I like it. It keeps the viewer more engaged.

Hey Ames! I agree with your assessment of Jason Isaacs, he is so good in that villain role that it is easy to forget how talented he is as an actor. One of my earliest memories of him is in the movie Dragonheart, which also has another Harry Potter alumni, David Thewlis. As a dad of daughters, when Susan begs her father to stay, there always seems to be someone chopping onions nearby. Every time I see that scene it gets me.

Good reaction as always Ames, I’m glad you enjoyed the movie. I think this is a very entertaining movie and Jason Isaacs is phenomenal even though he is the bad guy, however, from the standpoint of historical accuracy the movie is a disaster. I’m an American and about as patriotic as they come, but unfortunately the movie whitewashed a lot of real events and people to make things appear more clear cut than they really were. You said at the beginning that you don’t know much about the Revolutionary War, if you’re interested there is a fantastic six part TV show called “The Revolutionary War” from 1995 narrated by Charles Kuralt and created by Carol Fleisher that I rewatch at least once a year around Independence Day. It’s a documentary series so it probably isn’t exactly reaction content and it might be hard to find for that reason, but I still like to recommend it to anyone who might want to learn more about it. Again, I’m still glad you enjoyed the movie. I’m always happy when someone gets enjoyment out of something even if it’s not my cup of tea.

Great reaction as always, Ames! (and awesome editing!) Along with the many shocking and heart-breaking personal tragedies which are highlighted in the film, I am always SHOCKED to see the troops standing in a line, shoulder to shoulder, in the middle of an open field, firing at enemy soldiers who are doing the same. Cognitively, I understand that battles were fought in lines at the time because of the limitations imposed by the muzzle-loading musket or muzzle-loading rifle (reloading speed, range, and accuracy), and the limited ability of an individual soldier to operate independently or defend himself, but emotionally, it feels INSANE!! As with all wars, what a tragic loss of life on both sides!

Hey Ames, you were awesome as usual with your last reaction. It’s so nice to see someone who is conversant in film language, respects the material (instead of just goofing on it) and has genuine emotional reactions. Well…I *assume* that they’re genuine. 😬 you MIGHT just be an amazing actor. You recall what the late great George Burns said: “The secret to great acting is sincerity. Once you can fake that, you’ve got it made.” So in response to your admission that 1) you don’t know a lot of history and 2) you would love to learn more history, may I suggest this weirdness: a 19 minute crash course if all of human history, titled “The History of the Entire World, I Guess”. Overstimulation and sensory overload are a distinct possibility. I suggest this not for you to react to, but just to enjoy. Or react to, if the spirit moves you.
