"We’re on the cusp of where human intelligence becomes a tiny fraction of machine intelligence..." - Elon

■ TESLA $TSLA ($216.27, +2.63%):

- Daniel Rivera, Tesla Marketing Advisor, was at the Tesla Performance Track Event this weekend at the Fremont factory. "Engaging with the Tesla community, witnessing our innovation in action, and feeling the energy and passion of everyone involved was inspiring."

- Hands Free Frunk feature has been released to a few Tesla vehicles. Like the trunk, stand still in front of your frunk with Phone Key unobstructed, listen for the chimes, and the frunk opens on its own. You must have ultra-wideband (UWB) active. The Android Tesla App has yet to utilize UWB so this feature, like the trunk, will not work. I asked Tesla's Wes Morrill (@wmorrill3) about it and he said, "Pixel user here. It's definitely the goal, we need support from each manufacturer to access their devices hardware. Team is working on it!"

- SETI Park (@seti_park) made a great find this weekend! Tesla has filed patents for wireless charging floor pads. It is assumed this tech will be used for Robotaxi. Of note, Tesla bought out German wireless charging company, Wiferion, last year. It is now known as Tesla Engineering Germany. Wiferion was developing wireless charging pads mounted on the floor of a garage or in the ground. There are four patents: Temperature sensors and applications for wireless charging, shorting switch to reduce ground leakage in inductive charging, wireless charging circuit topology and related methods of manufacturing, and parameter estimation for wireless charging.

- Eaton, a intelligent electrical breaker company, announced a planned collaboration with Tesla. In 2025, Eaton’s new AbleEdgeTM smart breakers will support Powerwalls. The goal is to make it easier and faster for installers and homeowners to achieve intelligent load management functionality that helps optimize energy use and extend backup duration during a grid outage.

- Panasonic Energy's renovated plant in the western prefecture of Wakayama, Japan is ready to begin mass-production of Tesla's high-capacity 4680 cell batteries.

- According to Elon, the Giga Shanghai is running at max capacity.

- Today, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) posted that Tesla sold 63,456 units in China in August, down 1.9% YoY. In total, Tesla China sold 86,697 units worldwide in August.

- This past week, Equis Australia joined the State Electricity Commision in Victoria at the Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub (MREH) for the arrival of Tesla's Megapacks as work at the big battery project progresses.

- With Autopark rolling out to some Cybertrucks, Elon thinks Tesla should make the yoke stationary, as it is not needed due to steer-by-wire. He also said that it should apply to Autopilot as well.

FLYOVERS:

■ SPACEX:

- Starship 31 got frosty yesterday for what was a possible Spin Prime or Static Fire test, but no such luck. It abruptly did a depress and ended testing for the day. Great pic of S31 on the mobile static fire stand at Massey's by RGV Aerial Photography (@RGVaerialphotos).

- Today Starbase is taking on Tropical Storm Francine. Gulf waters have been pushed into the mudflats and over Hwy 4. That be Salt Water folks! TxDOT is asking people to avoid Hwy 4 due to the flooding. Video by Anthony Gomez (@AnthonyFGomez).

- Weather may be bad, but some pretty exciting news out of Starbase. They just took delivery of the Human Landing System (HLS) Airlock! According to the TheSpaceEngineer (@mcrs987), it came from SpaceX Hawthorne. They took the B15 header and cut the top off and added the slanted roof.

- Other news at Starbase, the multi-level parking garage appears to be getting metal bracing added to the west and south side. It looks like it is going to be used to similar to bottom part of the Starfactory. Just for uniformity and looks. The foundation for the new Starbase sushi bar and recreation center are well underway.

- Elon posted that an unmanned Starship to Mars is expected to launch within 2 years, when the next Earth-Mars transfer window opens. These flights are to test the reliability of landing intact on the planet. "If those landings go well, then the first crewed flights to Mars will be in 4 years." He still expects a self-sustaining city in about 20 years.

- Drone ship Just Read the Instructions set a new turnaround record. In 3 hours and 1 minute after arrival to Port Canaveral, it depared back to sea. For what should be in support of Polaris Dawn. Video by Gav Cornwell (@SpaceOffshore).

This is the first of five commercial satellites in SpaceMobile's cellphone-compatible broadband constellation. In orbit, they will provide connectivity for smartphones outside cellular coverage in partnership with mobile network operators (MNOs). The booster will land at Landing Zone 1 (LZ-1) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

  • Launch 94! Sunday, 15th of September, at 6:57 p.m. ET, Falcon 9 Galileo L13 (FOC FM26 & FM32) will launch from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral, Florida. This is two satellites for Europe’s Galileo navigation system. Galileo provides Europe with an alternative to the American GPS and Russian GLONASS constellations, but will be interoperable with both systems. The booster will be expended in the Atlantic Ocean.

FLYOVER:

  • Starbase Flyover: RGV Aerial Photography (@RGVaerialphotos), 8th of September, '24.

■ THE BORING COMPANY:

- The vent fans have been mounted on top of the interior entrance of the Cyber-Tunnel. The west side of the tunnel shows little change. Pics by Joe Tegtmeyer.

- Joe also posted a new update video on the Cyber-Tunnel. It focuses on the use of fiber reinforced concrete road surface panels. As we know many broke with very little use. During Airwave Dynamics recent flyover, we see they are manufacturing new road panels with rebar reinforcement. Video in the sources section.

- Along with Giga Texas, Airwave Dynamics did a flyover of the Boring Company HQ in Bastrop, Texas.

■ NEURALINK:

- NP1 Noland Arbaugh (@ModdedQuad) made the first ceremonial move, the bongcloud, for the ceremonial first move of the 2024 Speed Chess Championship. "I know how to play chess, I swear. I still think Magnus Carlsen should’ve gone with my opening."

■ STARLINK:

- Starlink just announced that the Bastrop, Texas, Team has built their 1 millionth Standard kit. They did this in only 10 months! "The team is ramping production to meet the surging demand for high-speed internet around the world."

- Airwave Dynamics' flyover also got great views of the SpaceX expansion of Starlink facility in Bastrop, Texas.

- Starlink is now available in Zimbabwe. The Standard kit is $350 with a plan rate of $50/mth. The Starlink Mini cost of $200 with a plan of $30/mth. Several local companies have received government approval to act as resellers for Starlink.

- SpaceX Senior Vice President for Global Business and Government Affairs Tim Hughes met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh last Friday. Hughes praised Vietnam's national Internet coverage program and confirmed that SpaceX is ready to bring Starlink to the country. Chinh welcomed SpaceX's proposal and expressed optimism that Starlink in the country would soon become a reality. He assured that Vietnam has the infrastructure, mechanisms, and policies in place for SpaceX to invest and operate effectively.

- On September 5th, Staff Nyoni of a Brighter Tomorrow successfully installed Starlink at Chilanga School for the Blind in Kasungu, Malawi. Implementation of the kits is to enhance their Blind Classroom project by providing reliable internet access. The kit was donated by Justin Saunders to Bright Chidzumeni Innovation Manager at Save the Children.

- Per Brian Munyao Longwe, CEO & Co-Founder of Converged Technology Networks, "Seeing Starlink being sold like vegetables in a supermarket in Nairobi this morning has made my day!"

■ X:

- Lastly for Airwave Dynamics' flyover check out these views of the X Safety Support facility and Hyperloop Plaza in Bastrop, Texas. There is new foundation work behind the facility.

- X has hired Angela Zepeda (@angelamzepeda) as their new Global Head of Marketing. She recently served as CMO/Chief Creative Officer for Hyundai. Per Angela, "I have X-citing news to share! After an incredible five year journey as CMO/CCO for Hyundai, I’m thrilled to shift gears and drive into a new adventure as the global head of marketing for X!"

- X in Shibuya on a promotion for Shio Seto, Japanese fried rice crackers. Pic by X's Ayumu Matsuyama (@ayumu_matsuyama).

- 3 former Twitter execs, Sarah Personette, James Sullivan, and Dalana Brand, are suing X Corp. stating they are owed $53 million in severance benefits after they resigned from the company due to "materially and irreversibly changed" from the Elon acquisition. Each say they are owed a severance payment ranging between about $14 million and $21.8 million.

- Insights is now available for Verified Orgs in the US. Upcoming improvements include; advanced search queries, stronger filtering with chart zoom, Grok trends analysis, and faster performance with reduced latency.

- In August, X had 4.3 billion total visits. 907 million unique visitors. Averaged visit duration was up by 10 seconds. And page visit were up by 5.29%.

- According to JLL USA, X is subleasing its old HQ in San Francisco and JLL is handling the marketing.

■ xAI:

- On Saturday day Elon posted that, "Colossus has begun training..." Expectations are to release Grok-3 by December 2024.

- The Wall Street Journal published a false article that Tesla would license xAI’s AI models to help power FSD in exchange for revenue. Elon shot this down stating, "Tesla has learned a lot from discussions with engineers at xAI that have helped accelerate achieving unsupervised FSD, but there is no need to license anything from xAI. The xAI models are gigantic, containing, in compressed form, most of human knowledge, and couldn’t possibly run on the Tesla vehicle inference computer, nor would we want them to. The Tesla AI models have incredibly “dense” (in a good way lol) intelligence, as they compress video of reality into driving commands, but must operate on a ~300W computer with memory size and bandwidth far lower than say an H100 GPU. Tesla real-world AI also has a vastly larger context size than an LLM, as the combined video history from all cameras is several gigabytes in size."

■ ELON NEWS:

- Elon was at the US Open this past Sunday.

- Tomorrow, Elon should be speaking at the All-In Summit (AIS '24) according to Jake Loosararian of Gecko Robotics. No time was given and All-In has not updated their speakers page on the site. Jake is also speaking so I'm going along with what he is saying.
