■ THE BORING COMPANY:

- Penn Hyperloop, University of Pennsylvania's premiere tunnel boring team from the Wharton School of Engineering are designing and building a micro tunnel boring machine (TBM) from scratch to compete in The Boring Company’s "Not-a-Boring-Competition" in March 2025.

■ NEURALINK:

- At the beginning of October, Elon had a conversation at the 2024 Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) for the Michael L.J. Apuzzo Lecture on Creativity and Innovation. He discussed Neuralink and a variety of topics with CNS President Dr. Alexander Khalessi. CNS finally posted the video. It was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.

- NP1 Noland Arbaugh (@ModdedQuad) gave us a great update on what he has been up to and how he has been using his Link. Outside of traveling and witnessing great events, he was able to use the BCI for 24 hours straight and then 48 hours straight in back to back weekends. He works continuously with Neuralink honing the device, handwriting, user interface, and overall user experience for all who come after him.

Per Noland, "There is so much in the pipeline that I’m not even sure I can do it justice here. There are things we’re waiting FDA approval for, so I’ll put a pin in that for now. More participants to come so please go apply if you meet the immediate criteria for participants." I have linked Noland's update in the sources section.

■ STARLINK:

- One New Zealand's Sharina Nisha and Nick Quin with SpaceX Wireless Technology Lead Jeff Ahmet in Florida. This was a dinner held the night before the launch of Falcon 9 Starlink 10-8 in Cape Canaveral. One New Zealand is currently testing Direct-to-Cell.

- After a three-year effort between SpaceX and US scientists, the National Radio Quiet Zone in Virginia and West Virginia is allowing Starlink to provide service to thousands in the ares. The area is a restricted wireless signal zone to prevent disruptions of local Green Bank Observatory radio telescopes. SpaceX developed a system that can quickly steer satellite beams away from the radio telescopes as they pass overhead. Starlink is now live in 42 of the 46 cell areas around the Green Bank Observatory.

- Per Andrew Ortega, Principal Environmental Consultant at Aries Geospatial, "Starlink mini has been an absolute game changer for remote field work. It is awesome to have robust internet in the middle of nowhere. It really is as simple as plugging it in, and pointing it at the sky!" Takes a second to find the Mini in the pic.

- John Earles of Action Restoration in Florida utilizing Starlink in their Siesta Key restoration project.

- Per SpaceX's Ben Longmier (@longmier), "I do most of my (Starlink Direct-to-Cell) testing inside and at my dinner table. It’s near a window. SpaceX DTC also works in a pocket facing away from the sat, and inside a Tesla. I really thought the human body would attenuate more signal."

- The Defense Department is increasing its projected spending on low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite internet services to $13 Billion. Most of the orders have been for Starshield, the militarized version of Starlink. At the AFCEA Space Industry Days conference in Los Angeles, Kevin Seybert, SpaceX’s Business Development leader for Starlink and Starshield, stated the following. "The Pentagon’s rising demand for SpaceX's Starshield underscores Starlink’s ability to adapt to military field operations, providing high-speed internet that is easy to set up and reliable under challenging conditions. SpaceX’s approach of providing a dual commercial and military product is core to what SpaceX is doing."

- Sovrinti, an at home senior care company out of Texas, has successfully completed testing of its auto-pairing medical devices with a cellular gateways on the T-Mobile network. Starting in 2025, with T-Mobile's partnership with Starlink for direct-to-satellite IoT services, Sovrinti will offer rural health monitoring coverage and ensure continuous health data transmission, even in the most remote areas of the U.S. As Starlink’s IoT services expand globally in 2026, Sovrinti plans to broaden its coverage, enhancing global health monitoring initiatives.

■ X:

- Linda Yaccarino will have a conversation via X Spaces with Steven Ballmer at 8:00 p.m. ET.

- Yesterday, the GOP House Judiciary (@JudiciaryGOP) released a 25 page report on how the Biden-Harris appointed Chair Lina Khan has directed the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to harass Elon and X. Just as Elon’s purchase was closing, Lina Khan pushed to finalize a consent decree against Twitter. Per Lina, "The urgency is due to Elon Musk's purchase of the company this week." Here is a Grok summary of the report:

  • Targeted Investigation: The report claims that Khan directed the FTC to focus unusually intense scrutiny on X Corp. This scrutiny includes demands for extensive information and depositions, which the report suggests go beyond standard regulatory oversight.

  • Political Motivation: The document insinuates that this attention from the FTC is politically motivated, given Khan's known criticisms of big tech and Elon's public persona and business practices which often clash with mainstream political views.

  • Violation of FTC Order: It's highlighted that Elon's directives to X Corp employees potentially violated an FTC order concerning privacy and security, but actions by Twitter/X's security staff to mitigate these risks were noted. However, the FTC's continued investigation is portrayed as overreach.

  • Staff Reduction and Compliance: The report critiques the reduction in X Corp's privacy and security staff post-acquisition, suggesting it led to compliance issues, yet frames the FTC's response as excessive.

  • Legal Actions: X Corp sought to terminate the FTC's consent decree from 2022, arguing that the FTC's actions are overly burdensome and possibly retaliatory, especially in light of Elon's acquisition and the changes he implemented.

  • Lack of Impartiality: As stated, the report touches upon Khan's previous academic work and public views against large tech companies, questioning her impartiality in dealings with companies like X Corp.

Per Linda Yaccarino (@lindayaX), "The FTC Commissioners clearly targeted our company for political reasons. To say this is troubling is an understatement. We’ve worked in good faith for years with the FTC and thought they had been as well. We need answers immediately."

- Per X's Zach Warunek (@ZachWarunek), "As heavily requested, there is now a 2 week time range shortcut in account analytics."

- X Japan CEO Ayumu Matsuyama (@ayumu_matsuyama) has confirmed that X will be participating in Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas again. CES is one of, if not the, largest annual electronics trade shows in the world. It will be held from January 7th to the 10th.

- Community Notes has introduced Lightning Notes; a system to score notes faster. Since rolling this out, notes go live in as little as 14m 33s after being written, and 18m 20s after the post itself was written.

■ xAI:

- xAI's Anto Patrex (@antopatrex1) chilling at San Francisco's Tech Week talking about AI and the future of computing.

- Elon posted, "Try submitting x-ray, PET, MRI or other medical images to Grok for analysis. This is still early stage, but it is already quite accurate and will become extremely good. Let us know where Grok gets it right or needs work." Many replies state Grok is spot on. Impressive!

- According to the Wall Street Journal, xAI is in talks with investors to raise several billion dollars in a new funding round. They say xAI is looking to raise its valuation to $40 billion. xAI nor Elon has confirmed this. Elon usually debunks this.
