"The individual plot twists and turns are wild, but the overall trajectory was predictable..." - Elon Musk (@elonmusk)

■ TESLA $TSLA ($394.94, +0.15%):

- Per Tesla, "To support people evacuating from the fires in the LA area, all Autopilot & FSD Supervised strikes are being forgiven in the state of California." Good luck and stay safe out there Cali.

- New images out of China were posted by xiaoteshushu (@xiaoteshushu) suggesting this is the new Model Y Juniper. Cyber-Lightbars. Edgier design. Cyber-Steering Wheel. Stalkless. If so, what do you think?

- Per Elon, "Our Optimus robot is the most sophisticated humanoid robot in the world. We aim to build several thousand this year, test them at Tesla factories, then scale to 50,000–100,000 next year, and 500,000 in three years. Maybe we should think of them in Roman legions—5,000 robots per legion."

- I reported on Chile's Celda Solar Megapack project the other day. Well, yesterday Tesla announced the Megapacks are now in Chile. This is a 228 MW / 912 MWh project located in the Arica and Parinacota region of northern Chile.

- Mercedes announced their EV customers in the U.S. will have access to Tesla's Supercharger network. Drivers can get a NACS adapter at their local authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership. Canadian drivers will have access later in the year. Mercedes-Benz will also start adding NACS ports to their EVs this year.

- For 2024, Model Y and 3 were best selling EVs in Czech Republic. The Model Y has 2,006 vehicles sold and the 3 had 1,656. H/T Adrian Smrček (@Adrian_Smrcek).

- Navigational (NAV) warnings have now been posted for the Gulf of Mexico for the 13th of January.

- A great shot of the new catch fittings on Starship 33. Workers for scale. These are non-structural versions installed only to test the fittings’ thermal performance. Another great shot by Starship Gazer.

- Today,York Space Systems announced they and SpaceX demonstrated the first cross-vendor laser communications link in low Earth orbit. This is part of the Pentagon's next-generation satellite network known as the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA), aimed at enhancing military communications and missile tracking. They utilized satellites from the PWSA's Tranche 0. York used a Tranche 0 Transport satellite and transmitted data to SpaceX's Tranche 0 Tracking satellite using laser communication terminals from Tesat-Spacecom.

- Starship 33 has its serial number and a Mechazilla. One difference this time. Zilla has a pair of Chopsticks!

■ THE BORING COMPANY:

- Michel (@Mic_VegasSphere) Vegas LOOP Update:

  • Westgate is finished but still waiting for County approval. Encore/Wynn station should be open in the Spring. They may open both at the same time. Here is the interesting part. When Wynn and Westgate open the Loop is planned to run 24/7 — not just during conventions. Map at the Central loop station says “Westgate coming soon”.

  • The goal is to get to the airport ASAP after they get Virgin open.

  • The gates at Westgate were open today but no one was manning it. However, Rivera was.

  • There are currently 150 Tesla cars in the Loop system. Usage today was heavy but only a one or two minute wait.

  • All day fare still $5. Single trip $3.50. Going between halls at the LV convention center —FREE.

- The latest images of the Cyber-Tunnel at Giga Texas from Airwave Dynamics flyover. Slowly but surely the stainless steel cladding is being installed.

■ NEURALINK:

- According to Elon, a third patient has been implanted with a Neuralink! The devices have been upgraded with more electrodes and higher bandwidth. He hopes to implant 20 to 30 patients this year. Blindsight, the next device that will enable humans to see, has been working in monkey for two years now.

- This is the Neuralink "REV10 Motor Cortex PCB," a part of Neuralink's hardware designed to interface with the motor cortex. This PCB is involved in processing signals from the brain's motor cortex to control external devices, such as robotic limbs or computer interfaces, thereby translating neural activity into actionable commands. This image is from 2022.

■ STARLINK:

- Fox and many other TV crews are using Starlink to cover the fires in LA. Per Elon last night on the Palisades Fire, "SpaceX will provide free Starlink terminals to affected areas in LA tomorrow morning."

- Australia's largest telecom, Telstra (@Telstra), announced they are partnering with SpaceX to bring Starlink Direct-to-Cell text messaging to their customers. "This will enable us to provide better coverage from coast to coast, especially for those in rural and remote areas."

Per SpaceX's Ben Longmier (@longmier), "Excited to be bringing Starlink's Direct to Cell service to Australia with Telstra. Soon, there will be no more dead zones in the wide areas of Australia, including 20 km offshore."

- Per Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Starlink deal for Italy, "I never talked about this with Musk. It’s not my habit to use my public role to do favors to friends. Regarding the method, I can say that these are discussions that the government has with many private companies. SpaceX allows very delicate information to be communicated securely on a diplomatic and military level. We are simply in the investigative phase, which is why I don't understand all the accusations that have been made. Is the problem with SpaceX that it's a private company, or is it Elon Musk's political ideas?"

■ X:

- Linda Yaccarino (@lindayaX) with Shelley Zalis (@ShelleyZalis) CEO of The Female Quotient at the CES Equality Lounge.

- The EU’s top digital officials commit to pushing an investigation forward into whether X breached the EU bloc’s content moderation law.

Per Linda Yaccarino, "It is essential to democracy that individuals be allowed to have open discussions about politics. This move by EU regulators is clear, unlawful retaliation for allowing an open discussion for all to hear. The people of Europe should have the freedom to make up their own minds, rather than have EU bureaucrats control political debate. There is no surrogate to X in having this open discussion."

- X announced John Nitti (@jnitti) as the new Global Head of Ad Innovation. "John is going to guide us as we grow our partnerships around some of the best tech in the world -- especially our data and programmatic offerings."

X also announced Romina Khananisho (@khananisho) as the new Head of Global Government Affairs. "Romina will be instrumental as we grow our commitment to free speech around the world."

- X's Zach Warunek (@ZachWarunek) added more detail in Analytics so you can compare your posts with replies. Click the “i” icon in the posts/replies chart to see some more details.

- X is rolling out labels for Parody Accounts.

■ xAI:

- The Grok App (iOS only) is now available in the following countries; U.S., Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, India, Philippines, and Jamaica. And with the last update, it can you show you searched locations on a map. "With Grok as your copilot, navigating the vast expanse of knowledge becomes an exciting journey. Its integration with X and focus on real-time information make it the perfect companion for those seeking an AI-powered assistant." Link to download in sources section.

- Tennessee Governor Bill Lee (@GovBillLee) accompanied by Lt. Governor Randy McNally (@ltgovmcnally) and Speaker Cameron Sexton (@CSexton25) were given toured of the xAI facility in Memphis yesterday by Brent Mayo (@BrentM_SpaceX). Per Bill Lee, "We toured xAI in Memphis to learn how the company continues to invest in technology for the future and create opportunity for Tennesseans."

Per Brent, "Had the opportunity to show Gov Bill Lee around the site today. Was an absolute pleasure having him (and the team) at Colossus to see how Memphis, Tennessee (and Mississippi) is providing the talent and expertise to build the very AI compute necessary to keep America as the leader in the space!"

■ ELON NEWS:

- Here is the full conversation of Elon and Stagwell's CEO Mark Penn at CES yesterday. Lot's of good stuff discussed here. Worth a listen. On DOGE spending cuts, "I think if we try for 2 trillion, we've got a good shot at getting 1. $2 trillion target as a best-case outcome."

- Up to 150 EU officials were supposed to be monitoring the X Spaces today with Elon and AfD leader Alice Weidel (@Alice_Weidel). They were looking for any violations of EU law. The EU has concerns that the livestream will be promoted by X's algorithm to give the AfD an unfair advantage ahead of the German elections next month. Per Alice Weidel, "Big Brother is watching you... An EU that uses its bureaucracy to exercise censorship on social media is instilling the spirit of unfreedom. The DSA threatens democracy!"

- Elon really really likes Diet Coke...
