Sketchbook (PAGE 24) (Patreon)

I already had the habit of drawing traditional pencil sketches on starch white paper, so this was pretty much the unquestioned default when I started sketching digitally. It took me way too long to appreciate what a toned background could offer. I could sketch in white and make highlights wherever I wanted. And it's way easier on the eyes than staring down a full-intensity RGB display for hours at a time. Dark mode quickly became my preference for pretty much any digital interface once it was made an easily accessible option, so the fact that it took me years of digital sketching before I dimmed my canvas even a little bit makes me question my lateral thinking skills.
This was my first sketchpage that used a toned canvas. I never figured out if it could be automatically applied in Painttool SAI, but CSP lets you set a default color. Besides a honey badger color sketch carrying over the theme from the previous page, I did a lot of "back to basics" work. This was right around New Year's, so that kinda checks out. I sketched myself in fox form over most of the page, since Kal's design needed a little focused attention at the time.
Mazia the civet shows up too, almost as if she was about to become the focus of a spontaneous months-long project. I'm overdue for a little comic work, huh? Whatever happens there, I have a pic in the works featuring Juno and the bunny friend she was recently hanging out with. WIPs coming soon!!
