This started out of a desire to revisit some inhabitants of a much older world and do a little slice-of-life stuff. I also really wanted to work on environmental plants and how they could add a little life to the scene. I referenced Neoregalia sp. for a punch of pink (leaning magenta) and Aechmea blanchetiana for some nice bright oranges. The bromeliads complicated matters since I wanted to draw a Hyaenodon species that could more or less plausibly have existed in the kind of tropical environment they’d be native to. I don’t want to be too flippantly anachronistic or anatopistic, and eventually decided H. horridus seemed like the least dishonest option. This is now what... my fourth H. horridus pic? I guess I'm biased.

The idea is he’s been away from the pack for a few days on a long hunt, and hot and tired his thoughts wander to what he might be getting up to back home. Or at least what he’d like to get up to, pack dynamics allowing. In the context of it all, masturbation just seemed like another bodily appetite alongside thirst or fatigue, which kinda taps into the primordial angle I was looking for with this pic at the beginning. More to come next week, including two versions of the finished piece!

When you're naked and alone, sometimes that specific itch is worth scratching.

megafaunal

love your paleo pieces, excited for this!

Absolutely wonderful

Don't blame the poor fella, especially if he has a good gal (or even a few good gals, depending on the traditions of his pack!) waiting for him at home! His pack, and his mate(s) are lucky to have a diligent hunter and provider like him! This is a unique world I'd sure like to know about! As always, can't wait to see the finished piece!

There's always been something weirdly soothing about arousal being treated so matter-of-factly--as just another need--and these kinds of pieces from you are wonderful at scratching that itch. He's hot! And his pack is lucky to have him.

Some nice posing and a lovely color pallet for this one! Looking forward to seeing it finished!

Careful about sunburns on such a sensitive place, man! 😰

He’s very handsome! You draw such lovely paleo art. I really like how casually he’s masturbating too, enjoying a simple pleasure out in nature 🙂 (also, that sketch of him being looking grumpy is so cute!)

Sutter

Handsome!

I get it, and sometimes stepping far away from the present day removes arousal from all the cultural baggage it's accumulated.

Maybe one of these days I'll explore Hyaenodon pack dynamics a little more. No doubt it would be a fun exercise ^^

Kalahari

I'm posting the finished piece shortly... and in fact I have another Hyaenodon piece in the works! I know, I should diversify a little :)

Kalahari

He's Hyaenodon horridus, which is a long extinct mammalian predator, and actually not closely related to hyenas at all!

Kalahari

Even if he has a grumpy disposition, we now know how he lifts his mood X3
