Welcome to the newest Fizz Hangout! Every Friday, you all can stop by the weekly Fizz Hangout post and ask questions (to us or to your fellow patrons), discuss recent bonus scenes and/or podcasts with each other, and catch up on all the goodies you might've missed!

HANGOUT QUESTION: we love seeing your response to questions about the Like Us series, and it helps facilitate some awesome discussions! Each week, there'll be a new "hangout question" that you can answer in the comments, if you wish!

Let's talk reading speed! What's the average time it take you to read an average-sized book? And for audio listeners, what's the average time it takes you to listen to a book and do you find yourself being able to finish a book in audio quicker or slower than in physical format?

Weekly Recap

Happy Friday, magical & heroic beauties!! The edits for Destructively Mine are done and we officially turned in the book to our editor 🎉 If you've been following along this journey, you know this book has been kicking our butt. It has 100% turned out to be the most rewritten book of ours of all-time. And in this last version, we think it just might be one of our best books. It's everything we dreamed Book 2 in the Webs We Weave series could be. It just took a lot of elbow grease to get it there. We can't wait for all of you to read it next year 🥰

So now that the edits are done, we know lots of you are wondering what we're working on now. Of course, we're always squeezing in Patreon content, podcasts, and bonuses into our schedule. But in terms of full-length books, we were unsure whether we'd be writing Burn Bright first or Book 3 in the Webs We Weave series. Even before we had to tackle Destructively Mine edits, we had started writing Burn Bright -- and we didn't know whether we'd be able to keep writing it after the edits or if we would have to pause it for Webs We Weave Book 3. Everything was up in the air! But our schedule has been finalized, and so now that the edits for Book 2 are done we are moving directly into writing Book 3. Which means--yes, Burn Bright is on pause. BUT...and this is a massive but...that does not mean Book 3 in Webs We Weave will be releasing before Burn Bright.

The Webs We Weave series is traditionally published and our publisher requires us to turn in the book an entire year before publication. So with that timeline in mind, we have to finish Book 3 first even though it will be published after Burn Bright. If that sounds complicated...it is LOL 🤣 Our brains have been deep fried just trying to juggle all these schedules and dates. But everything is finally coming together and we're on a good trajectory.

We're really excited to stick in the heads of our lil con artist fam for a bit before being fully immersed in the Cobalt Empire. Because it will be total immersion for us once we get there and we don’t plan on getting out anytime soon 💙💙

As far as release dates go, you'll get all that info at the end of the year during our special announcement for the Cobalt Empire series!

Here on Patreon, no content dropped this week -- but you can expect some big drops the rest of the month!

If i have a free day and the book is good it will be finished in less than a day😂. If it’s a busy day 1-3 days. If i don’t like the book too much 1 week to a month. And if it’s a terrible book i don’t finish it😂

Jess

Typically 2 to 3 days per regulat sized book unless my mojo is off. Happy to know that everything is coming together for you. I am excited for everything to come.

Ellieeeee

Typically a couple days, but if I’m loving the book a few hourssss, i finished NLU over night 💚💜

Teresa

It depends if it's the last book in a series I can drag it out for about 2 weeks if it's a long book. 1 week if regular size. If it's a book that I know will make me cry then 3 days. If I don't know anything about the book and iam really enjoying it the Max is 2 days. Iam a fast reader. So glad you ladies are finished with your edits. I hope book 3 will be a easier process for you in these next couple of months. I can't wait to hear what your announcement is for Cobalt Empire series and to get some finalization for whats coming next year. I hope you will also reveal Ben's LI at that time aswell 🙏. Have you ladies come up with any ideas for what your extra podcast will be this month? Looking forward to the Kotova podcast, I know you can't reveal much but I hope you can give us something after all these years.

Rachel

I listen to audiobooks on 2x speed, so usually I will finish it in 4-6 hours depending on the length of the book and how slow the narrator(s) speak(s). I prefer to read ebooks and it takes me 1-2 days to finish a 400-ish page book if I'm really into it. Probably about 20 hours of total reading. So much slower than listening. But this is an improvement! I didn't used to ever read and just started up last year, I used to read 10 pages per hour, now I can read about 40 pages per hour. So I'm pretty proud of myself haha

Angelina (Charlies version) ♟️

If its around 300 or 330 if I'm really locked in two days but normally with life now its more like 5 days I used to be able to do it in 2 but life 😭 I could also read 500 pages in a day too though or 800 in two it depends how bad I need to devour it HAHAHA but regularly 2-5 is a good range for me!! CONGRATSS on Destructively Mine!! Soo excited for the potential webs we weave bonus and soo proud that things are finally sorted!! Woohoo!! It must be such a weight lifted!!

Arrow

My reading speed varies tremendously depending on lots of factors. If it’s a book I really love, especially if it’s one I’ve been waiting for from any favorite authors, I will finish it in a day. My job is part work-from-home and part in-office. When I work from home, I don’t commute, so I have less time to read. When this happens I will typically take about 2-4 days or more to finish a book. When I commute I take public transit, which gives me much more time to read, so I’ll usually finish books in about 1-3 days. And then there’s just books I will get so inexplicably engrossed in that I will finish them in 1-2 days. Also - I actually have never really liked audiobooks. I really like imagining characters on my own as I read. I’ve only tried audiobooks during long car rides, and that always gets awkward because it can get uncomfortable to get through intimate scenes when someone else is in the car with you. And obviously you can’t listen to those when little ears are around.

Bri

It usually takes me 2-3 days to finish a book but I do have a big commute so probably wouldn’t be so productive if I didn’t have those minutes to fill lol! So excited for Cobalt Empire news and more Rocky!!!!!! 🩷🩷🩷

Lauren Gibbs

The fastest pace I read is a book in 1-2 days, but my pace right now is more like 3-5. Audiobooks take me longer to finish, because my chronic ADHD requires many rewinds when I space out and have to find where I stopped listening... 🙈🤣 I'm excited about all the things coming, it's just still so cool to see Dishonestly Yours in stores! ✨️👏🏻😍

Abby (Eliot’s version)

I can read a book that captures my attention in like 5 hours if it’s about 400ish pages… for larger books, it takes a few hours more than that! Like for NLU, it took me about 10ish hours… I’m so excited that the edits for DM turned out so well!! I CANNOT WAIT to read it in April 🥹🌸🖤 and I totally understand needing to write book 3 right away - it’ll work out well to just stay in the world and complete the trilogy before continuing BB 💙 Excepted about the bonuses and the podcasts!! Can’t wait to see what awaits us the rest of the month! Hope you guys are able to do some fun and relaxing things after the whirlwind that was July and August with the tour and then edits - you both deserve a break before wedding festivities begin in a couple months!! 💕✨

cass (ben’s version)

huge congratulations on finishing destructively mine!!!! 🥳🥳🥳 i can’t wait to finally have it in my hands in april!!!

cass (ben’s version)

i wouldn’t say i’m a SPEED reader, but i definitely do not take my time. i finished NLU in 17 hours, and i always try to finish anticipated new releases in under 24 hours because i really just can’t pace myself when i’m exited lol. when it comes to books that have already been out, i average maybe 2 or 3 days but always try and keep it under 6. i started addicted to you in mid september of 2021, and by november 1st of 2021 i had finished all 10 addicted series books along with WIT and WYA. i distinctly remember waking up the morning after halloween, washing some glitter off my face (my friends and i were the strawberry shortcake girls that year!), and IMMEDIATELY opening damaged like us while waiting for my friends to wake up.

Sarah

For 300 pages around 5.5 to 6 hours. I am far from a speed reader, I also like to go back and reread my favorite parts at the end of each chapter or review stuff that I didn’t entirely catch the first time.

Abby (Eliot’s version)

I love when you can read all the books after they came out so there’s no waiting!! Sounds like you devoured Addicted 😍

Abby (Eliot’s version)

For example, I’ve been reading since DLU was released so I read the LU books as they came out but when I heard the Core 6 had ten books after DLU?? Devoured those in 6 days… I couldn’t stop reading cause I HAD TO KNOW!! I wish I could space out books and make them last sometimes but it’s just not how I was created 🫣🤣

Mary

Audiobooks I definitely read quicker because I have an hour commute to work and then I listen in the shower and when I’m cleaning. But I only audiobook books from Libby or free on KU on audible. I pay for books on my kindle and have KU. I love reading books on my kindle or physically but my kids tend to distract me or I have to pick it up and put it down a lot

Krista & Becca Ritchie

LOVe that you were strawberry shortcake girls!! The binge-read of the Addicted series is so impressive. It always makes our hearts swell when we hear how ppl read them back-to-back 🥰🥰

Krista & Becca Ritchie

THANK YOU!!! We can't wait for you to read it!! When we finished, I immediately reread my favorite scenes (it has the same kinda addicting quality that had me rereading the first one so obsessively) 🥰 I wish it would come out like next week lol 😂 I'm still not used to this "finish a book and sit on it" type of thing! ~ B

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Yeah, I def think it'll be better for us (and we'll be MUCH faster at writing) if we stay in WWW and complete it before jumping fully to CE. I am so excited that when we go back to Burn Bright we can stay in that world indefinitely for a while. I'm ready to just be FULLY IMMERSED!!

Krista & Becca Ritchie

That is ME when it comes to audiobooks!!! I constantly have to rewind bc I daydream too much and I'm like whoops! 😂 ~ B

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Thank you so much, Angelina!!! *hugs tight* My reading pace is very similar to yours!! ~ B

Krista & Becca Ritchie

We foresee book 3 being MUCH easier *fingers crossed* and we're hoping it's like a "write itself" kind of seamless, easy experience. But if not, nothing really can be as challenging as book 2. So we're only looking up from here! I think we have a couple ideas for the podcast, but we haven't picked 1 just yet. We're planning to record the monthly podcast soon, so that should drop this week!

Lauren Gibbs

I'm SO glad it's not just me! 🤣👏🏻

Indy

Is there a possibility to still get SKOP signed? It’s the last one I need signed for my collection and I hate that it was sold out with the last restock🥺

Illyana

Happy Friday, you guys! 🎉 I'm a week behind on this Hangout blog post, so I'm just tuning in now and catching up. This is always such a highlight for me! --- Re: On Reading Habits: In terms of this week's Hangout question about how long it takes to read a book, it really depends on how invested I am. I've noticed that the longer I've anticipated a novel, the more I subconsciously procrastinate reading it because I don't want it to end. It sounds silly, but for example, with Nobody Like Us, which I've been so excited about and knowing it's a lengthy read, I just soak it in and take my time. 📚 Similarly, with The Blackbird Oracle, a book I've waited for since 2018, I've been reading it super slowly, sometimes going back to reread the whole series before I dive into it. This tends to be a PM read, but sometimes, if an AM read is too good, I end up continuing it into the night, which speeds up my reading process. 🌙 How about you guys? How long does it take you to read? I remember you mentioned reading mostly on weekends, while watching TV during the week. I'm the opposite—I find more time to watch TV on weekends and usually squeeze in reading just before sleep on weekdays. I'm curious, especially about comics—Krista, you mentioned you're reading X-Men again in the Fall of X-Men timeline. What runs are you into, and how are you navigating them, especially with the transition from trade paperbacks like Dawn of X to Destiny of X? 📺📖 Re: On Comic Book Organization and Star Wars Updates: Following up on past conversations, I'm still super excited to hear Becca's answers regarding Star Wars Legends comics and DC. And speaking of Star Wars, it's surprising to hear they canceled The Acolyte. Despite Disney's stubborn streak with Star Wars projects, I didn't expect that. 🌌 Regarding X-Men '97, the news about the showrunner being fired for misconduct was shocking, especially considering the unprofessional environment he fostered. The leaked script changes for season two, turning Jean Grey into a protagonist who permanently eliminates Emma Frost, sounds like wild fan fiction! I'm glad he's gone; Emma Frost deserves better. 💔 Not just in the adaptations or shows, but i just really hope she gets better finds love, persuit of happiness, the whole nines in the comics too! Re: Canon Comic book organisation: As for comic book organization, it's fascinating to think about how the Hales handle their collections. Does Maximoff take his favorite Batman comics when he moves out, or does he leave them at the family home? Luna keeps her Dawn of X trades and her star wars prose novels at her family home, suggesting not everything crucial moves with them to their personal spaces. How do they decide what stays and what goes? 🤔 I always imagined that the Hales family shared the X-Men comics library and it was this big place where you could take your pick on reading it via comic issues, omnibuses/hardbacks, or trades! But maybe i’m wrong in my assumption! Re: PM current read/On Revisiting Favorites and Looking Ahead: I'm currently rereading Misfits Like Us and Unlucky Like Us, enjoying the bonus chapters like fashion ad (Fingers crossed we get an aftermath bonus chapter follow farrow and moffy in the aftermath debachtle between Farrow and Lo, when Lo confronts Farrow on not being clear on how important Donnelly is to him in the beginning of Misfits). Every reread feels fresh with new content to explore. Looking forward to Wild Like Us with the recently posted Pharaoh and Moffy chapter—I can't get enough of them! 📚❤️ Anyway... Lots of love to you guys! Can't wait to hear how things are going on your end and to catch up on everything. Chat soon! 💖

P.S. : I think the idea of having Sully's workout playlist, perhaps as an extra or updated feature similar to how the Pinterest boards are, would be fantastic. With the Olympics that happened over the summer, I was constantly motivated and thinking about Sully, Akara, and Banks. How motivating would it be to listen to what Sully works out to, her Olympic-level music, or even Farrow's workout music? 🎧🏅 I love ambient music on YouTube, especially lo-fi tracks, which I often play in the background while reading. It enhances the reading experience, making it so much more enjoyable. Recently, my favorite setup has been reading X-Men comics with this kind of music playing in the background https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nyGi-jhwNA&t=4176s&pp=ygUPWC1NZW4gYW1iaWVuY2Ug . 📚🎶 Lots of love! These are just some bubbling ideas I tend to geek over and can't help but share with you. 💖

Krista & Becca Ritchie

YES!! There will be opportunities still! We have a really small number left that'll be on the site and these are signed!

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Re: On Reading Habits: That makes a ton of sense about wanting to soak in your most anticipated books! I tend to do that whenever I’m reading something Becca has written. I find myself rereading parts because I don’t want it to end! So it makes a lot of sense. 🩷🩷 But I’m also such a SLOW reader! Like so slow. If I can finish a book in 1 week, that’s a success. If I read during the week, I feel like I can only read 1-2 chapters at a time since I am so slow at reading. So it feels a lot better just devoting weekend time to reading so I can read a bigger portion of the book. It’s definitely a strange transition reading the lines in Dawn of X that were kind of threaded together. Now, I’m just reading the lines separately and it’s not as enjoyable at all. I might actually have to abandon Legion of X because it put me in such a slump! My favorites are still New Mutants and the main X-Men line. I’m going to start X-MenRed soon. Do you read them digitally when they come out? Or do you get the single issues? I once did single issues delivered from Midtown Comics but it was too hard to keep up with LOL! 😅 Re: On Comic Book Organization and Star Wars Updates: SHOCKED they cancelled The Acolyte. I thought they’d at least give it time to build an audience. Especially since it cost so much to make. Oh man, if they turned Jean Grey into the main protoganist who takes out Emma Frost—I’d be so mad. Emma Frost deserves better. Yeah, I heard about his firing, and it sounds like they did a good thing there. Re: Canon Comic book organisation: I do think that the Hales mostly share the X-Men comics in the house. Loren Hale would not allow someone to take a crossover hardback with them just because it’s their fav. He’d totally be like “you can get another copy.” 😂. It also probably comes down to who bought it/was it a gift? Because if the kids have trades that are distinctly “theirs” then they’d be taking them with them. I’m also pretty sure Lo would be gift wrapping Moffy’s Batman comics so that they can get out of the Hale House lol. 🤣 Re: PM current read/On Revisiting Favorites and Looking Ahead: Becca just reread Wild Like Us, and I always love hearing her new take on them. Rereads are a lot of fun especially when there’s been some time/gaps between your last read. Hope you have an amazing weekend, Laura! Love chatting 💖 Xoxo

Krista & Becca Ritchie

ohhhh I love that! Such a good idea. Ambient music also sounds so pleasant for background reading. I need to start doing that! 💓
