Welcome to the newest Fizz Hangout! Every Friday, you all can stop by the weekly Fizz Hangout post and ask questions (to us or to your fellow patrons), discuss recent bonus scenes and/or podcasts with each other, and catch up on all the goodies you might've missed!

HANGOUT QUESTION: we love seeing your response to questions about the Like Us series, and it helps facilitate some awesome discussions! Each week, there'll be a new "hangout question" that you can answer in the comments, if you wish!

Marvel vs DC vs Star Wars vs None of the Above? You can only choose one. GO!

Also, what is your favorite property from your choice?

Weekly Recap

Happy Friday, magical & heroic beauties!! Thank you so much for your patience this month. We promise the bonuses are coming, and the podcasts are being recorded next week. You will have a VERY content-filled week next week. Why the wait until the end of the month? We kind of got stuck...writing. As in, writing the actual book. We've been swept up in Webs We Weave 3, and it's been a little difficult to pull ourselves away from the storyline to pause for bonus. But we're hitting a good "pause" area, so we'll be carving out a couple days to dip our toes back into People Like Us. But let's face it, as soon as we start writing PLU, we will be full on diving into the PLU pond. It's hard to stay away!

So there's not much new news today, but we do have lots of fresh content coming very soon!

Also, if you haven't subscribed to our newsletter -- we highly recommend it! It drops every Friday like this Fizz Hangout. We cover some of the same bookish news here on the newsletter but we also give book recs every week, and we will be answering a top frequently asked question every Friday.

I choose DC just because I love John Constantine so much 🙈

sasha 🍯🎗✨️

truthfully i only know as many details about marvel and dc as i do because of lily and lo, so i'd say star wars! 🤭

rr

Marvel but i do like some dc characters as well like batman and superman. Idc about star wars. 😭

Andrea

Marvel! Hope you’re both doing well 🤍

🩰

Dc takes number one place in my heart but only just by like five percent to marvel, although it used to be the opposite when I was younger. I only started getting into Star Wars few years back so that's third place for me😭

Jenn Rohrbach

My Lo loving heart is biased towards Marvel.

cass (ben’s version)

loren hale would hate me for this but i’ve been a DC fan practically since birth. i’ve been harley quinn for halloween before, and im gonna be her again this year. AND batman and wonder woman for past halloweens 😭 i looove DC. i’d probably say my favorite comics are new 52 or flashpoint

a

marvel all day every day! top has to be endgame but also the winter soldier!!

Allyn Hamrick

MARVEL! X-MEN ALL DAY EVERY DAY. (also star wars, because I don't follow the rules)

Grace

MARVEL ♾️

Mary

Definitely marvel but I haven’t really gotten into x-men. Starwars will always have a special place in my heart though.

Jess

Marvel....torn on my favorite

faith

absolutely marvel & x-men!! although i do like captain america mainly because of bucky barnes lol (preferably comics)

Lauren Gibbs

I'm picking Marvel because I LOVE Spiderman so much! ✨️😍✨️ I know the rights to Spiderman are like the ownership of Dr. Pepper, but I do consider him a Marvel character regardless! 🤣

Mary

Bucky 😻😻😻

Arrow

I’m going to say Marvel - but that’s just because of all my Agatha All Along anticipation! I’m planning to watch it this weekend. With that said, my favorites really change depending on mood. Star Wars is a big Thanksgiving/Christmas watch for me so it is my favorite during that season. And Wonder Woman is one of my all-time favorite characters, so DC will jump to the top whenever new Wonder Woman content pops up (how could I not love the #1/OG lesbian superhero icon!) I will also say that I’ve started to like DC a lot more because they have waaaay more little kid content than Marvel and, specifically, more content for little girls (come on Marvel!). This means we watch DC a lot more - Batwheels, Super Pets, DC Super Hero Girl, etc. Marvel really just has Spidey and His Amazing Friends (at least when it comes to newer content). Since I picked Marvel, my favorite property has to be the X-Mansion/Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. However, I would LOVE to live in Peter Parker’s house in Queens.

faith

they did him dirty in the MCU. so much could’ve been explored about this character i feel that was expressed in the comics but not with the cinematic universe

Arrow

I just read your newsletter so I had to post my overwhelming excitement that a Kinney book is 100% happening in the future!!! I love your queer content. Love & Other Cursed Things is on my TBR for Halloween season too!

rr

Just got the news about kinney’s book. My hale heart is full of love and happiness. I need such hales crumbs to survive. 😞🫶

Hooran

Yall should look into " ghost pipe " flower and maybe MAYYYBEE add it to a certain board that you haven't released yet 👀🫢 * cough cough * The resemblance is actually unreal and ESPECIALLY with the ghost imagery ( I literally will rave about this till we get their book 😭🤭 ) noo but like EARTH IS LITERALLY XANDERSPENCER'S BIGGEST SHIPPER bc what do you mean this flower is colorless ( white ) thrives in darkness in the middle of forests ( typically grows after rain LIKE THAT DAY IN NUL IT WAS RAINING TOO ) AND most importantly is considered one of lifes strongest PAINKILLER!!! For xander? Like we all know his story contains alot of pain both mental and physical in somehow SO THIS IS PERFECT especially with donelly's description of their eye contact.. somehow it seemed like it was numbing xander's anxiety yk? It's so perfect for spencer sadler like this is a wasted opportunity if you didn't use it 👀

Hooran

I cannot wait for kinney's story 😫💞 my child And the new PIN IN BEN'S BOARD!!!!

Hooran

Might have sent you a whole ass comment on Instagram with more information about it but oh well 😭 I'm just too obsessed with this LIKE THIS VISION FOR HER IS TOO GOOD ?? I just wanted you to hear it :D

Dani P

Of those options I would say Marvel, but tbh I'm more of a Lord of the Rings girlie

Samantha Kimmell

I’m honestly not a huge superhero person but if I haaaaaad to pick it would be Marvel’s Spider Man and DC’s Batman. They’re the only superhero movies I’ve sought out on my own haha

Samantha Kimmell

Question for you guys! How do you feel about fan fiction for your characters? Do you like it? Hate it? Do you read it?? I haven’t personally come across too much but I was thinking about creating some myself for Thatcher and Jane and what I think his like homecoming and healing journey from the events of Infamous Like Us would have gone down 🥰

Defne

Wait what is the news. Did i missed something?

Krista & Becca Ritchie

If under the legal guidelines of fan fiction and there isn't breech of copyright, we don't have a problem with readers writing fan fiction. We love that kind of creativity, and also knowing people feel inspired enough from our books/characters to go off and write is a beautiful thing. BUT we can't read any fan fiction related to our work. We don't want to get accidentally influenced by fan fiction or to even get confused on storylines that we've already written or for anyone to believe we used ideas from fan fiction. It's best for us not to read it, but we are supporters of it.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

@Defne: It was in our newsletter! You can subscribe here: https://www.kbritchie.com/newsletter This is the question that was asked & answered in the newsletter: Will you ever write another M/M or F/F book? Yes! We have plans to do both. Our next M/M book will most likely be Tom Cobalt's story, and we're absolutely obsessed with our reigning goth queen Kinney Hale. Her book is 100% happening in the future.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

I'm the same way where I have seasons/time periods where I REALLY get invested into Star Wars content! ~ B

Samantha Kimmell

Ohh yeah that makes total sense! Completely understandable but I’m glad you guys are supporters of it! When I was younger, I wrote so much fanfiction and now it’s mostly just living inside my head haha

Sarah

Hey so Iron Man’s apartment and def Marvel.

Sarah

I am more of a GoT kinda girl though or Dystopian.

Illyana

Hey chicas ! 👋 (I find the wave emoji unironically cute, hehe.) I know I’m a bit late with this blog post response, so let me dive right in and tackle the hangout question! 🌟 🥞 **RE WEEKLY HANGOUT Q** 🥞 Honestly, it’s so hard to pick a favourite between the three properties because I tend to cherry-pick the aspects I love from each of them. However, there are also things that feel a bit oversaturated and start to bug me, making it tricky to land on just one. Star Wars: I’d say it has the best world-building, hands down. 🌌 I haven’t delved into the comics yet, but based on your recommendations, they sound fantastic and definitely worth exploring! On the cinematic side, it’s a bit hit-or-miss for me. That said, I always look forward to Star Wars properties more than MCU ones. For example, I’ve watched *every* Star Wars release—even if I didn’t particularly love it 😅. Meanwhile, I couldn’t bring myself to get through *Secret Invasion*, and I’m still debating whether to bother with *Agatha*. I might, just for the young Avengers. But yeah, Star Wars hooks me more consistently. Marvel (+MCU): Ah, this one tugs at my heartstrings—especially *Spider-Man* and *X-Men*. 🕷️🦸‍♂️ In the comics, there have been some truly standout moments for me. However, my biggest issue with the MCU is how they undercut deep moments with humour that doesn’t always hit right 🤷‍♀️. It often throws off the tone and spoils the experience. And I struggle with suspending disbelief in some of their swings and misses. 😬 On the comics side, unlike Star Wars, Marvel’s editorial mandates (especially with *X-Men*) seem to prioritise agenda over creativity, which is frustrating! 😡 Still, I’ll always be thankful for *New Mutants* and Emma Frost (she’s honestly one of my all-time favourite fictional characters across all media). But yeah, the editorial direction in *X-Men* has really lost me. DC: As for DC, their cinematic efforts have been more misses than hits, but I respect how they handle their comics far more than Marvel. 📚 When they make mistakes in canon or create something unpopular (like a bad ship or storyline), they actually listen to the fans and course-correct. I appreciate that, because with Marvel, it often feels like you’re shouting into the void. 🙄 With DC, they seem to treat their “toys” and creators with much more respect. They give proper citations and don’t just poach ideas like Marvel has been known to do. Honestly, DC has a stronger track record here. Additionally, some of DC’s characters are written with a lot of nuance. For instance, Tom King’s *Wonder Woman* and Barry Allen in the *Rebirth* run are packed with layers beyond the typical “big muscles” superhero trope. 💪 They convey messages that I don’t think many other comics explore as deeply. So, in a twist of fate, I think DC might actually be my favourite property, purely because of how they treat their creators, fans, and the integrity of their stories. They’re willing to reboot, correct mistakes, and listen to the audience rather than arrogantly sticking to their guns (looking at you, Marvel 👀). Although I’ve been a Marvel reader and Star Wars fan for longer, I’m finding myself respecting DC more as time goes on. Phew, I know that was a lot! 😅 But I’d love to hear your thoughts and the reasoning behind your choices! Let’s hear it! 💬 🥞 **RE THE DAWN OF THE COBALT EMPIRE** 🥞 After much reflection, I think I could do with a bit of a therapy session, and who better to have it with than the White Council members themselves (hehe), as we step into this new dawn with so much on the horizon. 🌅 I’ve been following this series for what feels like forever, and its consistent quality always reassures me that everything will pay off in brilliant ways. 🥹 But, as someone with anxiety, that small, nagging voice can sometimes overshadow the good. I’m sure you can relate to how little worries can creep in and take over everything. 😅 This is the first time I’ve felt this way about the series, especially as we transition into this new era. Back in the *Like Us* days, everything was literally *new*—no existing expectations or biases because the characters were all fresh. It was far less overwhelming. But now, with *Cobalt Empire*, there’s this overlap—expectations from the past mixing with the new—and I find myself seeking guidance on how to navigate it all. 🛤️🧐 As I’ve rambled on before about how much I connect with the *Like Us* characters (even those who only got one novel for their ship), I’m starting to struggle with the likelihood of encountering characters or ships I may not connect with in *Cobalt Empire*. We’re all here to enjoy the world and the stories, but it can be tough when not every character or storyline resonates. For instance, some might not like Xander or Ben Cobalt, or prefer different ships. Personally, I’ve never been fond of Joanna, and I only ever ship Leo and Beckett (I tend to fawn over them like statues from the Sistine Chapel—dark meets light, both completely consumed by the other). 😍 So, how do you suggest we handle these situations? We’re all mature, but we have our preferences, and it can be frustrating when something doesn’t click. How do we stay engaged and supportive of the universe, even when we’re not fully invested in a particular storyline? Should we take a step back during novels that don’t resonate, or remain part of the conversations here on Patreon? No one should be overly critical or negative, as that goes against everything the universe stands for—especially considering what characters like Maximoff endure. But, not to sound like Charlie or Lo, aiming to be constructively critical is important, right? It’s not about being hateful, but thoughtful, which is something the KBR universe has always encouraged. At the same time, I wonder if it’s pointless to be critical *after* everything’s been decided. Maybe it’s better to just bow out of discussions if I’m no longer invested in the ship? It’s a sad thought, though. :( This anxiety is a mix of excitement for what’s to come and the fear of the unknown. For those of us who’ve been here from the start—legacy fans, if you will—we’re not used to this level of uncertainty in the KBR universe, and it’s tricky to navigate. 🌊 How would you recommend approaching this next era? 🤗 I’d love to hear your thoughts—both as White Council members 😉 and as fellow fans of fandom culture. How do you handle these moments? Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🤭. This is all new territory, and there’s no real precedent for such a unique reading experience. It’s going to be a long journey, and I want to make sure I’m navigating it the best way possible. 💙 P.S. I keep saying “we”, but I haven’t actually talked about this with *anyone* but you two—and maybe the four other voices in my head, bahaha. Not sure why I kept saying “we”; perhaps I hoped someone else might relate and benefit from your advice! 💖 P.S.S. Watch the endgame ship actually be Leo and Beckett, and all my worries were for nothing! 😱🤭 You could say, “There, there, my child, you have nothing to fear.” 🤪😮‍💨 But alas…!

Illyana

Future Laura here, popping in! 😊 As you can probably tell from this week’s blog post, I wanted to take a moment to apologise for my little therapy dump last week 🤪. My anxieties and the fear of the unknown with the Cobalt Empire definitely got the better of me. I think will to control your “safe space" played a part in that—I’m not the best at dealing with the uncontrollable, and sometimes I unintentionally let that bleed into my interactions with others, which is something I’m actively working on bettering ❤️‍🔥. So, when you read this post 🤭, just know that my thought process has completely changed for the better. You’ll see that reflected in this week’s blog post—I’m much more relaxed now. I’ve realised that I was projecting expectations, M/M, tropes “i love” particularly I adore (Maximoff and Farrow forever! ❤️). I was holding other characters to those same standards, which isn’t fair to them, to you guys —or to me! With a lot of self-reflection (and some stern conversations with the four voices in my head 😂), I’ve come to terms with the fact that each character and relationship has its own journey, and that’s part of what makes the Cobalt Empire exciting. I’m learning to appreciate things for what they are, rather than what I expect them to be. 🫶

Krista & Becca Ritchie

The world building of Star Wars really is immaculate! I love it so much. But the characters for Marvel def are better to me. (I love how much you love DC!!! ~ B) As for your Cobalt Empire musings, we think that some readers who were with us in 2014 and transitioned into the Like Us series likely felt this, too. And for some, we did see a drop off of those who didn’t connect with the new series in the same way. But others stayed and found reasons to love the new series. Even if there’s not a specific romance that you might be fully invested in, most of our books tend to be “ensemble” in a way. We don’t forget the side characters, and so maybe focusing on the side character journeys within the romances that you don’t gel with as much might help 💖 We will say that at the very beginning of the Like Us series (during Damaged Like Us) there was a lot of negativity because it seemed like there were readers who wanted differently for Maximoff or saw his romance going in a different way and were disappointed. Which is understandable, but when that kind of negativity puts readers who love Marrow on the defensive, all it does is cause animosity and the loving, happy vibes start to diminish. We definitely want everyone to feel safe to talk about who they love without feeling like they have to defend them all the time. So we do always say to come at ships with love because there are readers out there who might connect to them in ways that some don’t, and it’s always best to be respectful.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Aw love this! And it's also totally okay that you felt nervous too. We understand ❤️ We know not every romance might resonate, but there are likely to be things in each romance that you do love or can possibly enjoy, even if it's the side characters you're rooting for 🫶🫶
