Extra: Social Media Follower Count - Cobalt Empire Edition (Patreon)

One of the highly requested Extra Posts has been for us to detail which of the family members has the most followers! So we break it all down here for you, specifically for the Cobalt fam this time. Narratively, this is the follower count right before the start of Burn Bright.

💙 JANE ELEANOR COBALT - 227 million followers: If you thought Jane would be #1 on the list, you guessed right! It's canonically stated in the Like Us series that Jane has been ranked in the Top 20 Most Instagram Followers in the world. We've always imagined that her aunts and mom are ranked higher, but still, Jane is undoubtedly the most followed of not only her siblings but all of her cousins too. Why is this exactly?

Maximoff's "fair warnings" in his books give the best insight into how the Cobalts are perceived by the media. (Public perception is not something that's super prevalent in Burn Bright, most specifically because Ben is not someone who pays attention to it. As you can read in this teaser here.) But Jane -- oh Jane -- she has let the public very much into her life by posting social media videos of everyday things in her everyday life. From Damaged Like Us, Maximoff says, "You've seen her Instagram videos of her burning French toast, trying on a new pair of pants, and reading passages of old literature."

Jane is also a frequent poster and she's featured heavily on We Are Calloway, the docuseries, which adds to her notoriety. On top of all of this, she's also the oldest child of all the families. So she's undoubtedly followed the most of her siblings.

💙 CHARLIE KEATING COBALT - 88 million followers: He's also very much featured on We Are Calloway alongside Jane, and he's coming in as one of the oldest among the families, which gives him more notoriety than the younger ones. There's a lot of circulation in the public about Charlie being "a miniature version of his father" which has added to his fame. He doesn't post quite as frequently as Jane, but when he does post, it gets incredibly buzzy engagement among the fans. Especially because Charlie will post pictures of anything. Family, landscapes, architecture, food. It's more so random. He's an enigma in the media, which has made people actively want to know him, and that's really created a lot of hype around Charlie. There are Fanaticon pages just dedicated to him. He's extremely popular, whether he likes it or not. Therefore, his follower count reflects this.

💙 ELIOT ALICE COBALT - 59 million followers: A steep drop after Charlie, but we're heading into the Cobalts who aren't the five oldest of the Hales, Cobalts, Meadows. (The oldest 5 are Jane, Maximoff, Charlie, Beckett, and Sullivan.) The younger ones have less fame, naturally, as they weren't followed as closely when they were children. Eliot was also a part of We Are Calloway, but he's not featured as heavily as Jane and Charlie. He's also been a theatre actor, but that's largely relegated to New York City -- unless you've seen one of his shows, he's not gaining a ton of popularity through his time on the stage. He also did not attend the FanCon tour from Lovers Like Us, which is going to negatively impact his follower count in comparison to those who did attend (Jane and Charlie being two of them).

59 million is a huge number though! Eliot has a large presence on social media because he posts very frequently, and his posts often go viral for being humorous. Maximoff has noted that Eliot posts soliloquies about lamps and toothbrushes. He's also someone who'll post many, many photos of his brothers and sisters. Eliot loves his family. Loves being a Cobalt. He's also not against posting pics of expensive clothes, the private jet, all elegance and literature. His account is peak Cobalt Empire.

💙 BECKETT JOYCE COBALT - 26 million followers: And the nosedive continues in the follower count. Throughout Beckett's life, he's been extremely inactive on social media and very private. He was never featured on We Are Calloway. He doesn't post regularly, and the only reason he does have 26 million followers is because...

Being a part of the 5 oldest of all the families.

The handful of times he has posted has gained him new followers.

Audrey Cobalt recently took over his social media (at the request of the New York Ballet Company telling him he needed to be more active), and she has 100% done a fab job in increasing his follower count. (Even if there was some...drama surrounding her video of his bedroom. #MisfitsLikeUs.)

💙 TOM CARRAWAY COBALT - 11 million followers: Okay, this might surprise some of you! Yes, Tom is in an emo punk-rock band. Yes, Tom does have people who follow him for his music. Is it a lot? Actually, it kind of is! Most rock bands don't have nearly this amount of followers, but most of the people following Tom aren't necessarily fans of his music. The social media account for his band The Carraways has far less followers than Tom. Like Eliot, Tom was on the We Are Calloway docuseries. Unlike Eliot, Tom doesn't post quite the same "Cobalt Empire" things. He's posting more music related content, which isn't going to appeal to the vast majority of the public.

Tom also doesn't engage that great with fans on social media. He's still navigating this, but he's not really into social media marketing. It's not his strong suit. Being only 21 and the fifth-born Cobalt, he hasn't gained that many followers. Which puts him solidly at 11 mil.

💙 AUDREY VIRGINIA COBALT - 4 million: She loves posting! Her baking, her friends, her family. Audrey is very active on social media, but her account hasn't been public for that long. You better believe that Connor and Rose are watching her like a hawk. She knows they will make her put her account on private if she were to post anything that'd put her in danger or if she engages with fans in DMs. It's strictly supposed to be a photo-album account. If she were to do more videos, she'd just take them with Jane, and Jane would post to her own account. But inherently, Audrey being the youngest and not having a public account for long is why she only has 4 million followers as of now.

💙 BEN PIRRIP COBALT - 1.7 million: Oh Pippy! He does not keep up with his account at all. It goes pretty inactive a lot of the time. When he does post photos of his friends (sometimes at their own persistence, and he likes to do it to make them feel good), it doesn't get too much engagement. His account isn't very discoverable. He's not asking his siblings to tag him. He likes the anonymity, but when fans do comment on his posts, he happily engages and will comment back and "like" things. His account also hasn't been public for as long as some of his older siblings, so he's had less time to accumulate followers over the years.

Other things he posts: environmental awareness reposts, wildlife pictures that Nona has taken, and of course, pictures of his family. But often, these fam photos are also being posted on his siblings' accounts too, so there's less reason to follow Ben for Cobalt content.

To put into perspective how low Audrey and Ben's currently are and how famous some of the bodyguards become, by Headstrong Like Us -- Paul Donnelly has 4.6 million followers, Quinn Oliveira has 8.4 million followers (the most outside of Thatcher & Farrow), and Farrow Redford Keene has 61.3 million followers.

In comparison to Jane, Maximoff Hale has 102 million followers by Headstrong Like Us. You see him do plenty of IG Lives and stories in his novels, so he's actively engaged with the public like Jane.

There is a reason people like Maximoff and Jane really need bodyguards. Their level of fame is through the roof. These families are very much household names, and even if people don't follow them, they know of them.
