FIRST TEASER THIS MONTH?! Oh god, I am so ready 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Haley Secen

So ready for all the Lunnelly content and an Oscar bonus yesyesyes I’ve missed the snack lover 😍😍

Andrea

UNLUCKY TEASERS IM NOT READY Honestly I don’t have much opinions on movie to tv adaptions. When I was younger and all the YA movie adaptions were made I was always excited but I usually always ended up liking the books more, but still enjoyed the movies. I will say when it comes to the Jenny Han adaptions I’ve looooved the the film/TV more than the books

Lauren G

Yes, love book to movie/TV and do my best to keep expectations low. I am on the side of being very excited for the HBO series that will give us a reboot of Harry Potter. I feel like the movies have always been their own thing and for true book series die harder (I am among them!) I am excited to see what adding hours of content will do for the stories! I think it will be very weird at first to see a new cast, but if they do it Justice it could be so so special and bring so much of the untold story to life for fans!

Rachel Parsons

I’M SO EXCITED FOR THE TEASERS!!!!!! And I’m on the fence about book to movie/tv adaptations. The only one I’ve been impressed with is the shadow and bone series on Netflix. I read the books a long long time ago and I was so happy to see Kaz and Inej and Alina come to life and I thought it was great. But other than that, I get nervous because I don’t want it to ruin the books for everyone. Like if producers are gonna do it, they have to literally use the book as the script!!

Rachel Parsons

You know, I’ve watched the Jenny Han adaptations but I’ve never read the books! I’m too scared to because I loved the movies so much! Does that make sense? Lol 😆

Andrea

In my opinion the books aren’t as good, especially The Summer I Turned Pretty books. The show slaps since it’s told in so many POVs while the book is just in Belly’s POV.

Teresa

I have the Addicted for Now new addition and loved Connor and Rose first date!! As far as books to movies/ tv shows it depends. For the book series mortal instruments I read those before the movie and tv show came out, the tv show shadowhunters was great!! The movie not so much. I did enjoy the books more though overall.Hunger games I didn't read the books until after the second movie came out because I didn't want to wait the last 2 and I enjoyed the movies alot more than the books, atleast the first 2 anyway. So I have mixed opinions on it. I never read the books for Twilight but I enjoyed the movies when I was younger now watching them as an adult I cringe 😅 Edit: I almost forgot about Game of thrones, but considering how the show ended , in my head I have them as entirely different entities and I plan to finish the books one day once George is finished because that ending was bad and what made it bad was because it was rushed I believe Danny would have turned evil in the end but how it happened made no sense. Also Jon went through all that and he's sent beyond the wall again . 🙄 Not going to go on a tangent Game of thrones just completely slipped my mind

Amalia Maragoto

It depends on the movie that’s being adapted most likely I would prefer to see the movie or tv show and then wonder how different the book is and read the book after. Because if I read the book first i’m almost 80% sure i’m def not going to like the adaptation. 😂😂

Angelina (Charlies version) ♟️

I always get scared when books I like get adapted because at my heart im a gatekeeper 😂 and I dont like the idea that now everyone knows the characters and it could go viral like I hate that people who havent read shadow and bone have watched the show bc its not the same its weird I know 😭 and also what if its bad? we got lucky with shadow and bone where all the characters are represented well enough looks and personality wise but what if thats not the case? Thats like a nightmare 😂 ALSO I quite literally was JUST thinking “I hope we get an Oscar POV this month” and then BOOM I literally jumped up and celebrated I was so happy 😂 ALSO im very impatiently waiting for the misfits special edition because its not a want its a NEED and I CANT WAIT for unlucky teasers im literally going to die of anticipation ill like set a record for the first person who ever died of excitement and anticipation I reread misfits like ATLEAST once a month and everytime im done im just like I cant wait for unlucky I need to get back to my favourite world ever ASAP and I also need more Luna and Donnelly ASAP

Sioned

100% 🥳🥳🥳What do you think the Oscar bonus will be about?

Sioned

Ohmygoodness!!! Could it be charlie and moffy talking at the lake house since that was a pivotal moment for the plot of charming but everyone give your ideas!

Lucia

Oscar's POV and Unlucky teasers.... It's gonna be an amazing month!!!

Illyana

Hey darlings! Lore Queens galore! Hehe, Just to give notice I had to draft a fellow Flash friend of mine to help edit over ur guy's Flash reading guide, just because while I love the Flash and have read quite a bit I am still a Padawan, and acknowledge my modesty in the greater Flash lore! Plus she is now a bestie who was the one to introduce me to Flash! So this definitive guide trust me is so YUM. You'll love it! Now... when it comes to book adaptations... man this is tricky cuz I come across as a wizard blood-purist like the Malfoys... but tbh I f*cking hate them. TBH. So if it's something I care about, I won't watch the adaptation. But if it is something IDC about, I might watch it but remain mindful that the Source Material is probably out somewhere, and is probably even more gone with the wind fabulous lol. They always fail me and disillusion hits hard down the line at some point. Whether it's at the start (Rings of Power, After series, Fifty Shades, Twilight, Immortal Instruments and so many more) or down the line (Outlander, Harry Potter, MCU) and I think there is something to be said that Hollywood constantly buying IP rights to adapt and just keeps adapting adapting adapting, hinders any new creativity to be made in that entertainment industry. And now a days, there is this hidden guise that they do, which is have the writer of the series be an 'consultant' or a 'producer' which is just the men in suits pitch to the OG fans that they have 'the writer' on board, so 'don't worry the source material will be controlled'. But that still a load of bullshit if you ask me. Creative liberties will be made, even if the OG creator is part of the panel, but they are just 1 voice out of 50. And then, what happens, is that the writer gets drawn away from the OG community (i.e. their book community) in an effort to give them 'what they want' (i.e. the show/movie) but really what book fans really want, are just... more books. GRR Martin is still deflecting from writing the GOT books with being 'too busy giving us the show we want' but what happens? The book audience dissolves. And when his book fans called him out on it, he would say on blog posts "you should be grateful you're getting a tv show" *cries*. For Outlander, Diana Gabaldon released a new brick novel every 1-max 2 years, and then when the show started, we had to wait almost a decade for the next one, and it turned out to be so convoluted and you can tell via her writing she was so distracted. It became a sad joke in the Outlander fandom where we called it, 'Droughtlander' :')). No joke it was actually F-ing awful. And what happened in the space of the previous novel and this one? She was a producer to the current show. And the show has taken SUCH LIBERTIES (such as Claire smoking WEED in the 18th century) that Diana Gabladon had to go on the record because book fans were so outraged and wash her hands a bit which is kinda disshorable tbh. She said, "they take creative liberties but BOOK CLAIRE would certainly do it..." *side eye*. Same thing that happened with my other favourite series, the All Souls series, Deborah Harkness got distracted with the TV show we haven't had a new novel in the series till 2018 and we still won't for at least 1 more year. And Same goes for the Shadow and Bone multiverse. JK Rowling? She said she'll never write a Harry Potter novel again or any other Wizarding novel, but she WILL write screenplays. Make that make sense? Oh wait money, okay fine *goes and cries in a corner* It is so abridged compared to the novels. It's just a very pattern of behaviour and I hate getting left behind, and my loyalty and excitement and engagment be capitalised over to men in suits in a board meeting. I only being useful as a fandom reader as a base-audience engagement for when a show runner pitches to a board of directors that there is an already pre-set capital gain audience and only more to grow when passive general audiences are introduced. The only writers of that sphere who hasn't abandoned me are you guys and Brandon Sanderson really XD. Brando has been beyond vocal and promised us reading fans that he will never prioritise Hollywood over his story telling and writing, because that's when he truly feels at his most fulfilled as a human. He says if his work does get adapted it will still never take priority over his book writing. And I think that's why fans love his so much and why he's become the greatest fantasy author of all time. He is loyal to his fans and his fans are loyal back. He knows that Hollywood is just filled with a lot of broken promises and won't void himself of the opportunity if it means certain books will get their screen time, but it never comes at the cost of the books. And we know this for a fact because he lived his truth as the Wheel of time producer, and was openly critical of their bad adaptation, and it never came at the expense of writing. And that makes me so grateful and feel so seen. I am equally worried about what's going to happen with the adaption of the X-Men in the MCU. But tbh, unlike books where comic book writers get no royalties from their work being adapted on the screen (Claremont went on the record and said he got not even money but little recognition for the Fox moves! INSANE isn't it!), I am so exhausted from the grief and worry that's going on in the X-men Comics that I have little to nothing to spare for the MCU movies hahah. But the MCU has always acted more like a fanfiction of the comics than an actual adaptation I feel, so I am kinda unbothered? So yeah, conclusion is I expect it now a days tbh. I don't watch adaptations of things I love either anymore because they oversaturate my vision of how I see the characters when I read them. But to all who love them rejoice! *Shakes pom poms* I wish I could have your emotional and intellectual maturity! Hahaha. What about you guys? Where do you sit on the spectrum? Do adaptations oversaturate the books ever for you? Where do The Hale members sit? :P XOXOXOX Laura (And happy easter! )

Brianna

didnt see this earlier bc im at the phillies game but UNLUCKY TEASER IM SO MF EXCITED RN

Vex

Did you like the ending to the tv show (Shadowhunters)? Malec carried that show lol.

Kayla Reynolds

I don’t mind book to tv/movie adaptations, but I tend to look at them separately if that makes sense! Like I judge the adaptation solely as an movie or tv show. I have such a specific image in my mind that comparing the two isn’t fair. Like I want to be able to enjoy an adaptation for being entertaining without worrying if it’s not a perfect match. However I will say if a book is being adapted I much prefer it to be a movie rather than a tv show. SO excited for the bonuses this month, have a great weekend ❤️❤️

Yasti

That would be cool but I'm thinking maybe it's something to do with Jack, after they've gotten together? I feel like he'd consider that pretty important to himself personally. Or maybe his family??

Zeynep

I missed Oscar's POV soo much, can't waitttt🥹💖

Debbie Greene

Holy Toledo! Oscar's POV from Charming? Can it possibly be his and Jack's wedding?! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Kim Tymchyn

YAY! I am SO excited for the teaser of Unlucky and the cover reveal for Misfits 💚 They are my most anticipated!! I do love a good book to TV/adaptation if they are good! I definitely prefer to read the books first but sometimes if I'm not really interested in the book I'll just watch the adaptation like The To All the Boys and the Summer I turned pretty I only watched the adaptations.

Duda

I am just so excited about the teaser of Unlucky Like Us!! My heart aches for Luna and Donelly, I can’t even reread Misfit Like Us because of the end, I just want them to be together and happy and loving each other so much, that every scene with them light up my days. Oscar is always gonna have a special place in my heart, because I am a Brazilian girl, so having one of the main character representing our culture, our country it’s amazing! About movies or tv adaptations I tend to like them, because I love having image representation on what I read. I am a huge Harry Potter, Twilight, The Hunger Games and Bridgestone fan, but I have consciousness that it’s just an adaptation, we will not have all the little details that most likely made us fall in love with the story

Kristin

More often it happens that I’ve seen the movie/tv show then read the book. There’s always changes that have to be made to adapt to a different medium, so I never expect them to be exactly the same. I recently watched the Wait With Me movie (I had read the book first) and I thought it was a great adaptation. I’m definitely intrigued at the idea of an HBO series type adaptation of the Addicted series! I’m sure producers would make some changes, but at the end of the day, we always have the books to come home to.

Sioned

Yeah that makes sense

Beatrice

I hate book to movies adaptations because they never do the book justice. The only one I liked was love, Rosie with Sam Claflin and Lily Collins

Beatrice

Plus people who only watch shows without reading the books they’re based on always have the worst takes on the characters and the story. They don’t understand them. Please please never adapt the addicted series into a show/movie. There’s no way it would ever do the characters and their stories justice.

Yasti

Whenever they give us these hints I always try to skim the relevant book and see if I can guess what the scene might be, so I guess I'm going to have to do that again this month :)

Nichole Suckow

I love book to movie/tv adaptations and have been reading then watching since Nicholas sparks way back in the day 😂 I always read the books first! I’m so excited for Luna and donnellys book AND an Oscar bonus!

Teresa

Yeah I did, I would have liked for the show to go on longer but it was a good ending😄

Lindsay Hunter

I have a love/hate relationship with tv/movie adaptions. Sadly, I had some difficulty finding books I liked to read when I was little (if only goodreads and Booktok existed back then😍). Thus, I only read books if they got a show/movie deal. On the premise that if it’s good enough to get brought to screen, it must be good - right? I found out thats not always the case. I’m SO GLAD I was able to get over that hump! I also ALWAYS read the books before watching the show/movie or I won’t read the book 😅 tried an experiment with the hunger games and I have yet to read the books. Lol Can’t wait for Unlucky Teasers! Thanks for popping your heads out to give us this update and hangout question. Happy writing you two 🫶🏼

Lindsay Hunter

I couldn’t agree more, Andrea!! Spot on. 👌🏻

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Yesss the Jenny Han adaptations have been ah-mazing! I (Krista) binge-watched The Summer I Turned Pretty, and it totally felt like a classic WB kinda show.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

The casting choices for the Shadow and Bone series on Netflix have been so stellar! All the characters are pretty much how I (Krista) envisioned them when I read the books.

Andrea

Yesss I can’t wait for season 2, which I’d assume would be soon! Jenny Han has gotten the best casting directors, they manage to get such charismatic actors with great chemistry for all her stuff.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Krista here! I'm the same way!! I definitely prefer reading the book second. I think though if I read the book first, the excitement and hype build up for the adaptation is almost the best part. Like the hype is real. I just have to keep my expectations low while also being exciting LOL 😂

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Krista here! I feel like the Shadow & Bone show was really created FOR readers. It doesn't do a lot of exposition and legwork to bring non-reader viewers in on the backstory/lore of the world. At least for the second season! In a way if feels more like a love letter to the readers because of that. And yessss the MLU special edition is gorgeous! I'm pumped for all of you to see it soon 💜💜

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Such insightful points, Laura! Becca and I were discussing Daisy Jones & The Six, and that's actually what inspired this week's hangout question. Becca read the book before watching the show, while I haven't read the book yet. Some of the changes from the book-to-show really affected her enjoyment, while I binge-watched it hard and really loved every episode SO much. So I do think that it's hard to love both a book and an adaptation equally, even if done well, because one is going to be better than the other inevitably. Usually that's the book lol! For me, I always look at them as too separate entities, so I don't necessarily feel like there's an oversaturation of adaptations. Also, I like having the choice to go read the book, if I've loved a tv show or movie, so I’m definitely on the side of “bring on ALL the adaptations” 😂 For the MCU adaptations, I think I’ve been so burned by some BAD X-Men movies that I have super low expectations for them going forward. I just like seeing the characters come to life. So even if it’s not-so-great plot-wise, I’m hoping the cast will be decent enough and that’ll probably be satisfying enough for me. I totally understand where you’re coming from about authors abandoning their writing careers to be producers and to be more involved in their tv/movie adaptations. For Becca and me, it’s a dream to have the Addicted series as a TV show. And if that ever came to fruition, I don’t think we’d ever ditch writing to be super involved in it. Like you were saying, you’re one voice (or two lol) out of 50. Of course, we’d want the adaptation to be true to the characters and true to the story, and I do think that comes with selling your rights to the right people and the right team who see your work and vision in the same way. We’d never sell it to just anyone to make a quick buck. We’re very protective over the series! But our first love is writing books. And in the end, what we do have control over is our books and our writing. So our energy will always be here, no matter what. For the Hales, I feel like they’re particularly obsessed with adaptations, but they’d definitely be split on being super angry if the adaptation didn’t stay true to the book. Like Lo and Xander are probably the two who are purists and need them to be GOOD adaptations or else they will riot.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Makes total sense! I definitely feel like judging them separately makes it easier to enjoy both of them.

Krista & Becca Ritchie

Aww it definitely is our dream for the series to be a show (we're TV junkies at heart), but that's just a dream lol! If it ever did happen, hopefully it would at least do the characters justice 💕

Noreen Olmsted

Will Headstrong special edition be in the store soon? I want to get all the Marrow books, but was hoping to do at one time

Sioned

I was just speaking to someone about this krista 🥳 great minds think alike 😉(*pat on the back for me with that one*) I wonder if they will ever somehow incorporate the fans into the Netflix series 🤔 I know some other shows have had fans in for like set tours and extras
