Well everyone, if the black leather didn't make it clear, we are OFFICIALLY in a classic 2000s adaptation of the X-Men. We got angst. We got motorcycles. We got so SO many armed guards.

This was a really fun change of pace that proved these incarnations of these characters could handle the franchise's more serious themes. They felt completely at home battling a state that hates and fears them and - because I'm an X-Men Fan - that is a good thing haha. It's a little weird to wish for pain upon your faves but - hey - at least they handle it well.

Chunklate

so excited for another episode

Thomas Hanan

I could be wrong, but I think when Cane first shows up in this show Xavier states that he experimented with mysticism to get his powers, making him not a mutant?? idk

NikhilClayton

He’s a mutant with a latent gene who turned to mysticism to boost it - or somethin like that. I do think its very interesting he’s the one in the “bad mutant” role this ep

Star Ringer

Rogue catching Juggy's fist like a boss is one of my favorite moments in this entire series.

Thomas Hanan

Ah right right, hes a bit of nothing worlds in this AU

Re: Scott seeing when using his beams full blast. He can and the explaination changes. The older is that the kinetic energy blast/laser (because it dates to before the punch dimension retcon) is emeited from the blind spot in our eyes that doesn't have any retina so it doesn't block any of his photoreceptors. The newer one is that his entire eyes are replaced with portals and they just somehow still function as eyes too. At least accoridng to the wikis and official database. I can't find the actual issues or fact books which explain his powers of the top of my head.

NikhilClayton

The portals thing is from a single handbook in the 80s and lives on as pure fandom lore haha so i dunno if id call it new

Archaeolinguist

I fully expected half a season on the run/eventually hanging with the Morloks while they look for Chuck

Cat Lawyer

Sick jacket! How come we’ve never had a TMNT and Xmen crossover?

Curt Clark

I'm always up in the air with how this was handled. On the one hand they're not COMPLETELY getting off consequence free, since there's still lots of repercussions to deal with that haven't been addressed yet. On the other, this feels like a truncation of something that felt like it should have gone on a lot longer. Can you imagine the government taking this lax a position on a brand new minority in 2025? We'd be in a DOFP/OZT timeline faster than you can say Monopoly on Power. That said, I do like that this was handled by showing them using their powers in beneficial ways. Not because minorities should HAVE to "earn their place" because that's stupid and leads to things like early Genosha, but because it DOES show the team offering the olive branch that Xavier always wanted them to. And it lets Scott really unload against something for the first time in the show. I'm a Storm stan at heart but it IS nice to see when any of them who aren't Wolverine get to do cool shit. (Yes, especially Jean Grey. It's awesome to see the Phoenix, but not every single adaptation, and it's important to remember that she doesn't NEED the Big Bag Bird to be a powerhouse)

Teenage Mutate Ninja Turtles!

HungryWinner

Yeah... sorry for dumping trivia you already knew. if I'd stopped tothink I knew you already knew it but I heard a question and the trivia brain took over before i really thought about things.

NikhilClayton

Lol you’re totally fine! I’ll talk about xmen trivia all day

Parker Bryan

Has there ever been a Morlock focused comic run, or a team of any kind? I’ve always loved the characters but from what I’ve seen they are always relegated to side stories. Caliban is awesome but when it comes to movies and shows he’s the only one who gets any love, at least that I’ve seen

Unstablebeast

The furthest I'd go if I lived in the marvel universe, is I'd agree if a program was started to catalog mutants abilities, not artest or detain, just catalog what they are capable of, I wouldn't have any issue with mutants as a group, and I would fear any mutants unless they individually did things, however I would like to know if the person moving in 3 houses down can just phase through walls or if they can blow up a small country, this doesn't just stop at mutants tho, if I was a regular person in a superhero world, I'd want any heros powers to be known regardless of the power source, tech, mutants, bio that's non mutant, mystic, hell inhumans even, if someone is city level or up I'd like to know

NikhilClayton

I agree with almost all of this but will say that i don’t want the phoenix to make her powerful, I want it cause it’s the core of her story. It’s like wanting Paul Atreides to take the water of life. Imo if you cut the phoenix from jean you haven’t actually adapted Jean

Curt Clark

Ahh. THAT I understand. By the time I got around to watching the show originally, Jean was dead, and had been for a depressingly long period of time, especially for someone known and named for being able to resurrect, and the Phoenix Force was getting passed around like candy corn on Halloween. It had gotten to the point where I was sick of the Fire-type Pidgeot and just wanted to see Jean again, and this show gave me exactly what I was missing. Maybe that's why I'm so forgiving of it taking its sweet time to get to Cosmic Fireball.

Romance Read Along

I don't think he has to be a mutant to be effected by Rogues powers. I seem to remember them doing a similar maneuver in TAS. Although maybe Rogue just renders him unconscious and doesn't get his super strength?
