Yes, the thumnbnail is ragebait. I apologize. But, also, not really cause I think it'll be funny.

Obviously, I know the teen titans. I grew up in the early 2000s. However, everything I know comes from either the animated films or general cultural osmosis. Which means I am, regrettably, a normie. BUT FOR NO LONGER.

TODAY I venture away from the safety of Marvel. TODAY I decide to no longer be a pariah amongst my peers. TODAY I attempt the impossible challenge for any nerd: admitting I don't know what I'm talking about.

I have never seen this show, I have never read these books, but I WANT TO CARE. Hopefully, my journey will be entertaining and you'll wanna go on it with me. If not...the X-Men will be back in a few days.

Evidently it is the first aired, not the first made. But im gettin the real authentic experience 😤

Agame

I was tge same as you, but on the side of Dc so this is gonna be so much fun.

Christopher Mitchell

The creators didn't see it with Raven and Beast Boy at all and stubbornly insisted they were like siblings. Seeing as this show is half the reason people like them together... and the other half – their portrayal in comics – is because of this show... we know how that worked out

anarchist Mando

Weirdly the comics Titans are located primarily in New York, while they have a West Coast division (primarily because of comic book artists being more East Coast) In contrast because this is an animation It takes a lot more inspiration from San Francisco and they have a Titan's East.

Agame

Before anyone tells you otherwise, its definitely dick grayson and we get no mention of batman. Apart from like one little implication of batman if im not mistaken.

anarchist Mando

No, it's dick, trust me, he just steals Tim's gimmick.

Unstablebeast

I hope this gets you to pick up some teentotans, titans or even solo hero books

anarchist Mando

Starfire is a translation. Her name is koriand'r Equally for sister is Komand'r It translates blackfire in tamaran

Azmi

Gizmo in the comics is actually a full grown man with dwarfism and the only Jinx in the comics before this was a bald Indian woman. You will see Mammoth with his sister in Young Justice

Unstablebeast

It was 100% the first aired episode, I remember the premiere day

Lord McDeath

The Robin is Dick Grayson. He is rocking Tim's fashion but he and Star are the Canon couple. Beast boy and Raven are not.

NikhilClayton

Oh you know what i did know her real name was coriander lol totally forgot

Unstablebeast

Eh this version is a weird mix of dick, jason and Tim ngl but rhey definitely make it clear it's meant to just be dick

anarchist Mando

I swear I remember the cinder block episode being the first one

Xeno

It’s supposed to be Dick but with Tim’s Bo staff

LaylabellVT

It's worth noting that these characters have names, but this show just kind of made it a point to only talk about them in code names. I assume because people had less faith in young audiences in the 2000s when it came to episodic, comedy-leaning shows like this.

anarchist Mando

That's because the Batman was airing on TV and legal issues.

Agame

You fool.. you thought you could out nerd me?! Bah, I was already aware of this FUN fact. *evil laugh*

Azmi

They remasterd this show to BluRay if you're not already watching it in High Definition

Zaire Cupe

I love the comic talk in other reactions but im also very excited for a blinder reaction

Nathan Borges Goncalves

Okay i dont know why this episode was the first for you i am pretty sure this is not even a first season episode

NikhilClayton

Take it up with wikipedia, imdb, and teen titans wiki lmao

Nathan Borges Goncalves

Yeah i search a litlle because i foind strange be this episode and apparent they broadcasted the third episode before the first for some reason even though they produced the episodes in order. I think Cartoon network was always mess with exibition cronogram.

Mud

Don’t know if you know but the reason Deathstroke hates the Titans in the comic is because his son joined them, but he got possessed or was evil and in order to stop him he sacrificed himself or they caused his death so he is aiming for revenge(comics only)

Azmi

This is why one must follow the production code

Azmi

Apparently in production code the next episode (Divide and Conquer) is episode 1. Looks like 3 and one got switched around for airing. Car Trouble airs after the finale for some reason

Azmi

In defense to this Jynx, she seems to be albino Also I think her "luck/jinx" based powers jut make the worst possible thing to happen where she shoots her hex

Star Ringer

It's kind of amazing seeing how much of the tone and beats of the first episodes didn't even last until the end of the season. Also, huge issue I have with Jinx in this series. She IS Indian!!! And her powers are elemental sorcery! They Whitewash-Plus™'d her for this show. (Way worse than they whitewashed Starfire, and I have OPINIONS about what they did with Starfire.)

Star Ringer

Which also bleeds into how I feel about Blackfire- BITCH SHE'S AN EVIL QUEEN WITH A CHIP ON HER SHOULDER, NOT A HIGH SCHOOL MEAN GIRL ROBBING SPACE CONVENIENCE STORES

Cutter

Fun little Easter egg to watch for: when the credits are in english it's a more serious episode and when it's Japanese it's a more silly one. There are a few exceptions but in general yeah

HungryWinner

Don’t worry. Even if you had watched in production order or an alternate airing order it still would have thrown you in the deep end. The show just chose to start in media res for some reason. I think it works.

Great Sky Whale

Nikhil at the start of episode 1: I think Raven will be my favorite character Nikhil 3 min into episode to: If anyone is mean to Starfire I will report them to the Hague

Cat Lawyer

Not sure if it was just my cable provider but I remember some other episode being episode 1. It had Cyborg and Robin fighting over something. These episodes came later for me.

VicWeave

This is gonna be a fun journey

Cameron Cool

Robin is definitely Dick but he feels like a mix of dick, Jason and Tim. Also the bat-embargo was heavy handed back in the day so there could only be one portrayal of Batman at a given time. Weird stuff haha

Quinn Bertelsen

"which robin even is it" is a good question lol, pretty sure this one is Dick though

VagabonD

The Tim bit is mostly due to modern adaptations opting into giving Dick and Jason versions of either of Tim's costumes but Dick had some anger to him long before Jason was reconned into being the crash out Robin (his original post crisis moments were few and far between)

VagabonD

That was the brother that got introduced later, Joseph. Deathstroke hated the Titans because his oldest son Grant aka Ravager took a contract to kill them and ended up dying while failing to complete it. He died in Slade's arms thinking he succeeded because Raven used her powers to create an illusion of them dead so Slade to could comfort him with a lie in his last moments. *New Teen Titans issue...I think somewhere between 2-5.

Archaeolinguist

Never occurred to me how much Hive is just AIM but DC XD

Bailee

It’s a weird thing networks often did, when shows like sitcoms and cartoons were often self contained stories each episode and not having much of a through line or at least not one that would need strict order, they would look through the episodes pick out which ones they thought were the best and move them to the front of the season . It was thought to get people interested in the really good episodes , so they would like the show and would invested by the ok to meh episodes. Someone at the network must have thought these were the two best of the first half of the season so they were placed first

Yackronin

"beastboy is on loan from the zoo" bro was so close to the truth (On (permanent) loan from the Doom Patrol)

deathy

Maaaan, this is a LOT more childish than the previous shows you've watched.

TheCaptainKuhn

to answer three questions but only 1 of them: Batman is never mentioned directly just alluded to, there is a single batman villain in the show that is introduced in season 2 and we learn which Robin it is in Season 2

TheCaptainKuhn

so fun fact, Gizmo is an adult in the comics with a younger Gizmo not coming until after the show had ended

Artemis

To answer some of your questions: Starfire's name is Koriand'r (as a civilian she goes by Kori Anders). It's not that she's an adult or that Tamaranians don't raise their kids for that long- Starfire is actually a runaway (Blackfire betrayed her and sold her into slavery on their home planet). I'm not sure if that's the show's origin but that is the simplified comics origin. The Robin is Dick but in most adaptations they take a lot of Tim's aesthetics because he tends to be the more popular Robin. Lastly: Beast Boy x Raven actually comes from this show, it wasn't really a thing in the comics before this. I'm looking forward to watching more, I haven't seen most of this show but I do like the comics

jimbob337

you won't get any mentions of batman or any of the other main leaguers aside from allusions like the mention of gotham in this show because it was STRICTLY forbidden by warner brothers for this to crossover with the DCAU, therefore no characters from it could appear in the teen titans and vice versa

jimbob337

at least when it premiered on cartoon network, the first episode was the blackfire episode

Foxy Beard

i need/we need you to watch the pilot episode, the teen titans "Go" episode. i think that would be a better first episode.

Azmi

Blindwave did that

Anders Milling

Oh it is dick, he just stole Tims stick. I never liked how Kori's speech, it made her sound kinda dumb, when she isn't.

blairwaldcrf

"Oh Deathstroke is selling the children, now it makes sense" is both accurate and hilarious. I'm the opposite of you, i was a dc shill now getting into mcau, but I'm excited for this!
