Man these past few weeks have just flown by. I've been so busy with jobs coming in that I haven't even remembered to take photos of half of what I've done.So hopefully you all got a chance to watch the latest Stagea video. In the video we finish off the new front fender plug and make the final fiberglass mould. I'll be the first to say it, if you've watched any of my last few videos it's really just a lot of the same haha.

To be honest I'm still figuring out what I'm doing with YouTube. This Stagea project took a lot longer than I expected and I'm noticing that a lot of my viewers are getting restless / bored of it and ready for something other than just sanding bodyfiller and fiberglassing. Initially my goal for this year was a video every second Sunday. This meant that no matter where I was at after about 10 days of work I had to stop, edit the video and throw it up on YouTube. We're just past the half way point and I can tell you now that I'm not going to be able to keep this up for the full 12 months.

I've always been interested in other peoples workflow / process so I thought I'd drop a little behind the scenes of my calendar for April and June:

I colour code my work to make it extra depressing, red is for computer / admin work like editing, taking photos, filming b-roll, writing subtitles etc... Blue is work that is filmed, black is work that isn't worth filming, and green is for other things like working on personal projects / hobbies or the occasional day off.

In April I spent 11 solid days just sitting on my computer and all up about half the work I did that month was at my desk. That's just not right. And it's why these builds have been taking so long.

So all of this is basically to say, I'm probably not going to be uploading a video every 2 weeks from here on out. In my next video I've set a goal so rather than just 7 - 10 days, I'm instead going to finish the last of the moulds for this widebody kit leaving just the rear lip to go until this car is ready for final panel and paint.I can tell you for sure that this video wont be up in 2 weeks time because for the past 3 weeks I've been getting through non-stop orders, working on customers cars, doing fiberglass favors for mates, and a whole bunch of other extra extra behind the scenes stuff. But since I had the camera out today I decided to grab a few shots of my incredibly packed little garage.

It's funny how the world works. I had basically no orders for months, the odd rear garnish order here and there, but then the past few weeks I had 3 garnish panel orders, 2 ducktail spoilers and a full mx-5 widebody to make.

I basically had to stop selling these Mx5 widebodies internationally since shipping them out of NZ has become more expensive than the kit itself, so it is always cool when someone local wants to pick one up.

And finally a little motivation shot.

I've just left the Chimera parked out in the driveway while I've been working the past few weeks, it's so great to just see how far it's come and then immediately get stressed out thinking how much I've still got left to do on it hahah. So that's all for this update, really just a quick one with a bit of an explanation on where my head's at lately.TLDR; I'm gonna be taking more time to make my videos so that I'm happy with them instead of just churning them out, next video will be the last one on making the widebody moulds for the Stagea.

I feel you, maybe you can outsource some of the filming/editing to be able to focus more on building stuff? I’m sure you’ve considered it but I’m curious to hear your thoughts around that. I get that it’s expensive and that finding someone that “gets” your video style can be tricky. Also, i meant to ask: Do you do the Japanese subtitles yourself?

I've tried getting someone to help but the issue is with filming, I work 7 days a week and so asking someone to show up and film all of that is too demanding. If I film myself and ask someone else to edit it, because I don't talk it's very hard for them to know what it is I'm trying to show in each clip. I did have a friend offer to help and so at the beginning of each clip I would explain what I needed in the clip, but it added so much time I gave up after a day. Lastly the issue with sending my files to someone so they can work remotely is because I film in 4k, each video is about 500 - 800gb in raw footage which with our internet speeds would take over the 2 weeks just to upload it to a shared drive. I would gladly outsource it if I could but it's just not possible at this stage. The Japanese subtitles are done through DeepL online translator and then I proof read them myself. My Japanese isn't that good so there's probably still a few issues with them, but it's better than just letting YouTube auto translate them.
