E24 - END OF THE PROLOGUE

.........Speechless from this finale. This was utter perfection from start to finish, an actual masterpiece. We can't believe it but Thorfinn finally dropped his father's dagger 😭💔 We're so eager to begin season 2! Thank you all SO SO much for recommending this to us and for joining us on this watch along. That image of Thorfinn when he turns around to look at Canute after Askeladd dies is one of the most heartbreakingly haunting things I've ever seen, it destroys me every time I watch it. He has been running on rage for so long and then he's lost what he felt is his only purpose in life and not only that but someone who was basically a 2nd father to him in a twisted sort of way. As incredible as this season is Season 2 is something really quite special and has stuck with me in a big way and I look forward to seeing you two experience it

the thing you guys need to remember is Thorfinn's fuel was strictly revenge, without killing Askeladd he felt he had lost all hope and now feels empty, the last 10 years meaningless when he could have been with his family, all that killing, watching innocent people die and he's still relatively young but all of that was done to get stronger so he could carry out what he thought was the right thing (killing Askeladd) as much as you think Thorfinn loved Askeladd it was all masked with his hatred of him

Season 2 is better but only because Season 1 exists in my opinion. Since I have recommend One Piece and Vinland Saga. I think you should listen to my third recommendation of Haikyuu! by that I mean I am praying the community picks it in the next poll its in lol.

Askellad is an extremely well written character. One of my favs. But also we can never forget that he was genuinely the bad guy. He hated Danes, killed and raped countless, killed thors without honor, etc. thorfinn is sad because he genuinely hates askellad and wanted to kill him himself.

Thorfinn was not worried for askellad he was worried he wouldn’t get to kill askellad himself which has been his purpose forever. He genuinely hates askellad.

Reading these comments is really interesting. I think Thorfinn is a lot more complex than just "he is upset because he didn't get revenge". Askeladd was this "father figure" he wasn't a good guy, and Thorfinn did want to kill him, but I also took a lot of Thorfinn as having respect for Askeladd, seeing him be this ruthless leader. So in the end sure he is upset he didn't get his revenge, and mad that what he is working for was taken from him, but I do thing there is a part of him that is sad that another father was taken from him. It does the shot of them on the white background as a call back to Thors's death to show you that. That is just my take, I haven't watched S2 so maybe Thorfinn says "Nah I didn't care for Askeladd at all."

People will hype season 2 but it honestly didn't hit for me, hopefully ya'll enjoy it. Just didn't care for the new characters that much.

Season 1 of Vinland saga is one of my all time favorite pieces of media in any format. That being said anyone who says season 2 is worse in any way doesn’t get Vinland saga. Season 2 is peak media and I’m super stoked for you guys to experience it.

The unsung hero of this entire season is Leif. He stuck to one cause to right his one mistake, which was doing a home alone headcount to account for a different Thorfinn. Every other character might be layered but he finally got that head count right. Tbf, in all seriousness, leif is the goat to pursue a lost kid for this long and find him. Also shows how good or bad a navigator he is. He found him but it took 11 years.

Askeladd’s death broke me too :’( Askeladd wanting Thorfinn to let go of his rage, to move on, and to live a better, meaningful life.. the parallel of Askeladd’s death to Thors’.. Thorfinn losing his purpose and basically another father figure in his life, no matter how twisted and complex their relationship is.. The many layers of Askeladd and Thorfinn’s relationship is honestly what makes that scene so impactful. They went through a LOT together the entire season. What a brilliant character this series has given us, and what incredible writing too! Cried like a baby again watching you two cry. I can’t wait for you guys to react to season 2!!!!

The fact that askeladd didn't snitch on floki who essentially the one who ordered the hit on thors really hit me. He really want thorfinn to move on and forget this "revenge" and not follow another cycle of revenge chasing after another man.
